Exactly...which is why I don't think the Phins do it again with Dansby or Rolle. They kinda need a safety now though since Gabril was released.Rodster wrote:40 million guaranteed is not insane but idiotic. The Phins paid Porter $30 million guaranteed and look what that gave them, 1 solid season back in 2008.
Of course they had to pay that much. Defensive ends are expensive because so few decent ones make it to free agency. Peppers was 10th in the league last year, fifth the year before that, and has double-digit sack seasons in 6 of his 8 seasons. Any DE with that kind of performance is going to get a contract like this, even if they are 30.dbdynsty25 wrote:I've got odds that by this time next year you'll be regretting that statement, at least about Peppers. I like the Taylor signing.ScoopBrady wrote:Bears just signed Peppers and Chester Taylor. I like both signings.
Edit: 40 million guaranteed for three years! Holy crap, it's even worse than I thought.
Not saying it's the move of the century, but given that they Bears need pass rush help, they don't have a pick until the third round, and they DE free agent market is always pretty thin, I think it's the right move for them. Besides, there may not even be a salary cap in 2011 so who cares how much it cost. They went after the best FA available at a position they desperately need to upgrade.

Actually it does make a little more sense monetarily if they don't have a first or second round pick to pay this year. But still...I don't like Peppers as a player, especially as we get to the middle and end of his career. Six years...yikes. But I guess such is life in the NFL...the guaranteed money is all that really counts.Brando70 wrote:Not saying it's the move of the century, but given that they Bears need pass rush help, they don't have a pick until the third round, and they DE free agent market is always pretty thin, I think it's the right move for them. I think if they had a first or second-round pick, or if Gaines Adams hadn't died (not that he was the answer, but I think they were going to give him a shot), they wouldn't make this move. But Peppers, while not what he once was, is still one of the better DEs in the league, and I'd rather see the Bears overpay for him than take a chance on someone like Aaron Kampman.dbdynsty25 wrote:Actually it does make a little more sense monetarily if they don't have a first or second round pick to pay this year. Baltimore acquired Anquan Boldin and a fifth-round pick in 2010 in exchange for 2010 third- and fourth-round picks.
The trade compensation is more than reasonable, but a contract came with it. Bolin signed a three-year, $25 million extension on his current deal, including $10 million in guaranteed new money. He's due $28 million over the next four years.

A little steep for another WR that can't stay healthy. He's worth about 4 mil per...not 8. But if he can stay on the field, he'll be worth every penny to a WR challenged Raven's team. I wish Miami had made that move. Maybe Brandon Marshall. Please. Just someone that's taller than 5'10...that's all I ask.

Well...Dansby is a Dolphin so I stand corrected.
Adam Schefters most recent tweet:
By tomorrow, LB Karlos Dansby is expected to finalize an agreement with Miami. But all indications are that Dansby will be a Dolphin.
Yes, I love twitter. It's fantastic. You find sh*t out about 30 min. before it hits the interwebs. Good god I hope they didn't ridiculously overpay.

I don't get some of these guys. You'd think he would be watching himself after the other accusation. Still, it is alleged.Leebo33 wrote:Pitiful.tjung0831 wrote:Looks like Big Ben decided to take it out of his pants again.....allegedly

Another great day to be a fan the Rams. Big FA signing. Qb AJ Feeley.
AJ Feeley?
Yep.
The AJ Feeley?
Yes, the AJ Feeley.
Carolina's 3rd string qb?
Thats the one.
Really?
Yes!
No?

No.
Yes!
Nooo!
Yes.
f***. Im confused.
Dont feel bad. Confused is how Rams management operates.
How do they make it through the day let alone run a football team?
Great question.
The brains at Rams park werent done though. Feeling strong about their #31 ranked scoring defense they decided to tender one of the few players worth a damn on the roster, Atogwe, at the lowest level. Nice to be so stacked on D that you can roll the dice like that.
Three wins in two years and the boys are standing pat?????
Personally I like the Bears pick ups. Only a very few DEs are better than Peppers. You must have quality Defensive linemen. No pass rush . No win.
Even if Chester Taylor doesnt do alot for the Bears( I think he will do alot more than anyone thinks. Martz utilizes a back who can catch.) he wont be doing anything for the Vikings.

Again, though, it's a thin market for WRs, and he fits a huge need for the Ravens. Even if he only plays 12 games, that's a big, big weapon to add to a team that's already starting to come into its own offensively. And like the Peppers deal, with the salary situation in flux, I think teams are willing to roll the dice on big contracts right now.dbdynsty25 wrote:A little steep for another WR that can't stay healthy. I really don't think Marshall's going anywhere unless somebody makes an offer Denver just can't refuse. Knucklehead or no, receivers of his caliber are so rare, and he's only scratched the surface of what he can do.
Interesting Boldin stat: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/l ... career.htm
He is the all time leader in receiving yards per game. I know he is an injury risk but he is(especially for a team like the Ravens) worth that gamble. That payout is sweet!

On the other hand I think it says something that Denver has tried to unload this guy 2 years in a row, both times coming off a 100 catch season. If I'm a GM and I see that I am steering clear.Brando70 wrote:I really don't think Marshall's going anywhere unless somebody makes an offer Denver just can't refuse. As a cards fan, I was not happy to see this. Dude is in on every play somehow! Great player.Brando70 wrote:Huge pickup for Miami. Sporting News had him rated as the top FA out there. Slightly higher than I was hoping but he is a definite need so I guess you gotta overpay a bit.
