I didn't sense that much pure joy from Team Canada after winning the gold, which only reinforces my belief that NOTHING in the mind of a hockey player approaches the Holy Grail of winning the Stanley Cup.

I saw no sticks flying in the air at the buzzer. No gloves tossed skyward. No players doing snow angels on the ice. You see those images every June from the Cup winners.

Team Canada was happy, maybe a bit relieved since gold is an expectation in Canada. But I didn't see any of the pure giddyness displayed by young men who just won the Stanley Cup.
All true. But imagine if you did see sticks flying or PK Subban rubbing it as if he scored an OT winner against OTT, (thank goodness he didn't play).

They would have been labeled a bunch of classless millionaires beating only a team plagued with injuries and a coach blaming the IOC for suspending N. Backstrom for taking an antihistamine for his allergies.

Even at full health, the Swedes weren't going to take the Gold away from Canada. Not with this strong and speedy blue line. Along Russia, they were supposed to meet for Gold and you never witnessed the drama and momentum changes that we saw four years ago in Vancouver against the Americans.

They were heavily favored today and even though you did not see the emotions that you saw four years ago, the whole country rocked in joy from coast to coast.

No doubt, they all crave Lord Stanley first and foremost because it is such a grind compared to this tournament but excited and proud, they all are.

You could tell it in Marty St Louis interview with the CBC, a guy who play little yet was full of emotions for the opportunity to wear the red Maple Leaf.

But seriously, someone should check if C. Price has a pulse. What a cool dude.

Im sure much of that was relief as anything short of the gold would not have been a good thing for them. 8)

Now that I know Price has it in him, I would like to see some of that come playoff time.

Price played terrific but what a defense he had to play behind! In fact I think Price even pointed out that a lot of credit had to go to the defense.

There wasn't as much emotion at the horn but that's not surprising - Canada had it in the bag for much of the game and they had the weight of expectations on them of an entire country. Several of the players admitted that they'd prefer the Stanley Cup but I also think that they really enjoyed playing in a tournament of the best against the best.

I was talking to my dad after the game and he said that he really enjoyed watching the tournament as he's become sick and tired of the long NHL regular season. I feel the same way. The calibre of the hockey when the top international teams play is just light years above what you'll see in any NHL game.

There will be 15 million Americans today watching the Daytona 500. It will be the most-watched sporting event of the weekend on TV, with ease.
Fine...nothing going in for those of us west of the Mississippi lol.

The Olympics don't galvanize as much as they used to because there are so many more entertainment options available than even four years ago, and nearly all are on demand. It's a far cry from 20 years ago, when programming by the three major TV networks were a cultural magnet.

It's a problem faced by all sports and entertainment entities. The clutter in the marketplace is unbelievable.

I watched a crapload of events this year, but admittedly my DVR was doing it's heavy duty during non-primetime hours. As long as you were tuned to NBC Sports, CNBC, etc and not the network you got raw sport. Will admit I couldn't watch a lick of events which came from X-games. It just feels dirty watching half-pipe as a medal sport and not some ESPN broadcast sponsored by Mt Dew.
