I haven't noticed a difference at Citizen's Bank and two games at Bush. I'm pretty consistent. I get 8-15 hits a game, score 3-7 runs, hit a homer or two...but strike out 15 times a game I strike out about the same whether it be day or night.

Try a day game against Houston at Minute Maid Park. I could barely see anything. Hopefully it's just certain stadiums where the backgrounds affect seeing the ball more.

Actually, the problem with Minute Maide Park is not the park nor your PSP. The problem is that "glaring emptiness" that used to have Carlos Beltran running around is what you are seeing at Minute Maid Park....

Well, Db is right. It's a b*tch trying to pick up the ball during a day game against Florida. It almost appears as if the ball is grayish in color which blends in with the shadows of the backdrop. In any case, I struck out 5 consecutive times to open the game.
I then started my season against the Reds during a night game. As the old saying goes, "it was like night and day".
Okay that's actually good to hear Dan...if it's ONLY in Houston and Florida, that won't be too bad. Hopefully there aren't any other parks that are like that.
How is everyone approacing hitting? Are you using the analog stick or the directional buttons? I can't get locked in using either at this point. I can't pick out pitches to hit for the life of me either, the freaking strike zone seems huge!

Using guess pitch should help your offense a lot. I posted this on another board:
"You can cut down your strikeouts quite a bit if you become more patient at the plate. Try guessing the location and the pitch until you have 2 strikes on you. Force yourself to lay off a few pitches that are not in the zone you are looking for. You'll be surprised that the count will be worked in your favor, more often than not. When you do get a pitch you were waiting on (the strike zone flashes or you get the cursor that appears), put a good swing on it. After awhile, you'll get the hang of it and your offense will improve significantly. But the key is laying off some pitches and working the count in your favor whenever you can."
This also helps with walks. I drew 2 walks off Greg Maddux in my last game, and 3 off Roger Clemens in the game before that. Wait these guys out and you should start seeing better results at the plate.

Does the 'offset' batting camera angle help at all? It could fix it or actually make it worse. I use the 'offset' angle for batting and love it. MVP got me hooked on that.

The game is very good when you compare it to any console baseball game and totally incredible when you compare it to previous handheld team sports games IMO. The games are only going to get better and better.
I have a business trip coming up soon and I'll probably play at least 10-15 games on the trip. The evening flight back from Boston is historically delayed at least an hour. Although I'll want to get back to my family ASAP, it won't bother me as much as long as I have battery power!

Secondly, travel is the main reason I purchased my PSP. I am leaving for West Africa May 5 and the flight is 2 legs at 9 hours each. On the way home it is 10 hours for each leg. My biggest concern is battery power. But the good news is I fly Business Class (THANK GOD!) and I can recharge in the airline lounge during each layover which usually last 4-5 hours each. Can't wait for new batteries to start appearing as this will be my next investment in this unit....and just picked up MLB at lunch...woohoo!

I would suggest getting the MadCatz battery pack that is a small pack that holds AAA batteries and plugs into the power source of the PSP. That way, you can carry a few extra packs of AAA bateries with you and have no worries. I have ni idea how long the PSP lasts with the batteries though. I'm also not sure if you can get the pack without having to buy a full MadCatz accesorry pack either.

They are already available on Ebay for around 60 dollars a piece, shipped. If you're going to be flying 9 hours at a time, you better get an extra battery.

Thanks DB, but since I have 3 weeks until I leave, I may see if any come out at retail by May 5. Also, I highly doubt I will be playing the full 9 hours...my damn arms will start cramping!
I've got that pelican power brick thing and it also works well. Don't know how many extra hours it gives you, but I used it for a recent trip to Dallas and it worked like a champ whenever my regular battery started to go. If my memory serves, I paid less than $20 for it at gamestop.

To answer the question though...no, it's not even close to as good as MVP on the Xbox. It's a handheld baseball game. It's FAR superior to anything ever produced on a handheld, but it can't compete with MVP on the Xbox. It's a very good game, just like the PS2 game, but MVP is a better product in my mind.
If you're having trouble seeing the ball during a day game try using the high camera angle. I checked out a Marlins home game and saw what you guys were talking about. I tried all the camera angles and didn't have much of a problem picking up the ball using the high camera angle.
