Some good news for a change......

Dont know if any of you guys remember I posted a few years back on Sportsreviewers ( before it went bad) about my son scoring a 1600 on his SAT as a soph....Many of you gave me some good ideas as what to do, since I had no idea how to help him achive his IVY League goal.....Well now...I....we......have another problem , he was accepted to Harvard..Yale ...and Princeton....I know its a great problem, choice to have ,and the ultimate decision will be his but any ideas,since im really not in the IVY loop ,would be greatly appreciated again ...thanks

That is a VERY NICE problem to have. Congratulations on your son's great accomplishments... You must be proud!

Thanks.......Yea...Its also overwhelming.....plus hes an only child and Im going to have a hard time when he leaves the house, his mom is depressed already....although we are extremely happy for him..

He may be only a child, but it's quite obvious that he has a very good head on his shoulders. While I can understand why your wife is depressed, he'll be just fine. Now, you're wallet is a different story.

hmmmm...did he play a lot of games as a child or did you keep him far away from them??? The answer would help out a healthy debate here!

I ended up going to a state school (Texas A&M) because I couldn't afford to go to the expensive private schools (99% of which don't offer merit scholarships, and the need-based stuff wouldn't have been enough, unless I wanted to take Pell grants, stafford loans, etc.). Then I got bored and joined the Navy.

So much for the 1600 SAT. I tend to look back on academics (both high school and college) as mostly a waste of time. I think writing, math, basic government, and learning to interact with peers are the only important things I got out of school. Of course, if you want to make lots of $, a degree is important in most fields. Fortunately, the game industry is not one of those.

If it comes down to it, I recommend a cheap/free school for undergraduate studies; you can put any money you would have spent aside for graduate school, helping your son start a business, etc. Most state schools have challenging honors programs with lots of perks, such as separate dorms and advisors, small classes, etc.

Yes....he started playing mario bros. on Nintendo and played various "kiddie" games as a youngster. Funny thing ...as he got older, when you think he would get more into it i found myself still playing and he couldnt be bothered anymore....much rather read...I like to think he got his start from me, but since he is growing up,I could see he is geared to a much more intellectual lifestyle than me.....much more...I dont want to brag cause thats all we hear about how smart our kids are but here are just a sample of his accomplishments....SAT 1 -1600 as a soph...........SAT ll scores of:math 2c 800..LT.800..CH..800 UH..800..WR..800.....Nat.Latin perfect score...ACT..36 every national board perfect score ...all AP scores.5....I could go on but now Im sounding like Im blowing my horn ...and the funny thing is if he knew I posted this he would be pissed at me.....Yea...Thought about state school but he strives for the best, and Ill do all I can to send him where he wants...leaning to Harvard....thanks...PS When I first brought this up a couple of years back on Sportsreviewers I got some pretty helpful comments, I think this group has alot of the same guys from back then only more "grown-up"

Some of those were MEGALIPSES. We're not talking just 3 or 4 dinky little periods here.

You meet a lot of people who can open a lot of doors at places like Harvard and Yale etc. Boston is nicer than New Haven. At least the last time I was there.

ellipsis

A word space should be used before and after an ellipsis in the middle of a sentence.

The -es ending is the plural version. It comes from 3rd declension Latin nouns. But it does have 2 l's.

When it replaces words at the end of a sentence or replaces an entire sentence or more, it is 4 periods; otherwise, three. And you're right about the spacing. At least that's what I remember from English class.
