This mode of play was like crack when I started my career with the Dodgers. I'm all the way up to 2010 thanks to fast play and simming. I found some things that is starting to wear thin on me.
After winning the WS with the Rockies and being named MVP, I was sent down to AAA the following season. With the numbers I put up the year before, no team would have ever sent me down. The player that took my place on the team had no where near the numbers I put up. Our teams #1 run producer J Drew got released and here is were the problems take their toll. If you take a look at the free agent pool it's loaded with super stars! These stars never get picked up season after season and they end up retiring due to a poor FA market. So I don't get to compete in a game with stars...bummer.
When your contract is up, your team does not try to resign you. You are a free agent and will be picked up by another team. So if you want to play for a team for a long time, sign a contract with many years. I was booted out after my 2 year contract was up!
My compitition is #23 or was that #43? Don't know, because all the new players entering the league are called out by their numbers. The player could be named Pedro Miller, but they call him #23 when he comes up to bat. Great...now was that #23 from the Astro's or was it #23 from the mets that hit a 3 run homer? While this not a game killer for most, it is for me. It makes the game feel generic.
Also the sim to next apperance feature is broken. Nothing sucks more then hitting that button and have to sit through the loading time to find out you don't play in that game. No matter how many times I asked to be played, the manager had me sitting out every third game even though I was his #3 scorer and in a tight pennant race.
I love this game, really I do. I'm going to shelve it for now and move on to MVP for my dynasty. I'll come back to MLB in a few weeks. I would play a dynasty in MLB, but I think it's going to have the same problems as career mode. I'll play a season when the new rosters come out in a few weeks. I can't help but feel that all the modes in this game are broken.

This problem and the freeze ups made me return to MVP. I simmed and fast played my way through 12 seasons in career mode and it was a complete waste.
The biggest bummer for me was simming to my next at bat and going through about 25 games until I got to see it. I put up monster numbers only to be unsigned or benched. Plus there is nothing more f*cked up than playing a 13 inning game and have it freeze up on you when the players are shaking hands. ARGH!!!
I love the stadiums and graphics in MLB but I'll take the gameplay of MVP anyday of the week.

No doubt the most let down I have been about a game in a long time. Still no word from 989 that the problem exists? I was tempted to go back to 05 but MVP has me locked down right now.dbdynsty25 wrote:Yup...I can't believe a tester or two never had it lock up on them. Unbelievable. I am hoping that the PSP release, which I'm buying next week, will lack that beautiful 'freeze' feature.JackDog wrote:I love the stadiums and graphics in MLB but I'll take the gameplay of MVP anyday of the week.

Even though I am enjoying MVP, I bought MLB Friday night, mainly so I could try out the Career Mode. I must say I really enjoyed the way the game plays in that it just feels intuitive and crisp. The graphics and presentaions are terrific, really nice.
But jeez, the Career Mode was a complete mess and totally unrealistic. I started out with the Yankees and hit above .400 in spring training, but was not offered a contract. No minor leagues (which I was looking forward to), no nothing. After sitting around as a FA for TWO years, I decided to start over, this time with the Mets. Result? Same damm thing. Real bummer. After about 4 hours, I'd had enough and went to bed. Very frustrating. By the next night, I was back to my MVP, WE8, Fight Night rotation.
Too bad really. This game could have given MVP a real run for best baseball title if these bugs had been worked out, IMO. And it's not grounbreaking stuff that needs to be corrected. There is a great base there, the wrinkles just needed to be ironed out. As with any buggy game, I am left scratching my head, wondering what the developers were thinking.

Yup...I'm thinking that this game may be better for the PSP since season mode may be the only thing that works.dbdynsty25 wrote:Yup...I can't believe a tester or two never had it lock up on them.
