OT: DSP Fantasy Baseball 2005

Post by dbdynsty25 »

From Yahoo's Site:

Registration for Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Baseball will begin shortly after midnight (ET) on Thursday, February 17.
• Play for free or step up to the majors with our PLUS game
• Your league, your way -- control scoring, rosters and more
• Public league options also available

Looks like it's a go fellas. The sooner we get all setup, the better the draft day/time. Hopefully we can have a nice turnout like we did last year. Here are the proposed ground rules:

1. 5 or 10 dollar buy in. Winner to take 75% and the runner up will get the remaining 25%. Payments must be made before the draft, or you will be removed from the league.

2. Positions: 3 OF, 1 1b, 1 2b, 1 3b, 1 ss, 1 MI, 1 CI, 2 UTIL, 3 SP, 2 RP and a couple of bench spots...maybe 4 or 5.

3. We'll try the head to head league with limits on innings pitched and games played (even though we'll fall short in games played, and possibly surpass the innings pitched limit). We'll use Yahoo's default scoring unless there is just something that I or any of you absolutely hate.

4. 15 teams...I've got 6 reserved already for my buddies and I so that leaves 9 teams for DSP guys. Last years guys are already in (Jackdog, SF, Cincy, Mattk, Brando, Pigpen, and even JackB1). I'm sure I missed a few, one on purpose, so let me know if I forgot you. If we need more than 15 we might be able to swing it...the league will just be VERY thin at some positions.

Let me know what you guys think about the cost and any other ideas you may have.

Anything else?

Sounds good, I like the setup.

I was in a fantasy league a couple of years ago on sandbox and had a blast!

I'd like to consider participating once I learn more about how Yahoo leagues work.

What is the diffenrence between Head-to-head play and Rotot play?

It seems to me that Head-to-Head is where you are scheduled to play another owner and see woh's players perform better.

Roto is based on stats only, no schedule

Am I right?

If we're going to a head-to-head scheduke then we can't have 15 teams (odd number). I liked last years setup where we didn't play against a particular team, but rather had rankings.

Either way, I'm in!

I loved last years system.

Tons of fun.

I held first place for 2 days last year around the half way point, then my pitching imploded.

I can't let a Giants fan win again, they(Giants) never win anything.

I'm in. Whatever system you guys want is fine with me. I'm in a dual AL/NL sabremetric league, so this one is low maintenance and just for fun.

I like head-to-head if only because it's more like a real season, but I'm cool with keeping the roto setup as well. It worked great last year so maybe we shouldn't futz with it.

I also say $10 buy in. It's a long season, we should have a nice payout.

I kind of prefer the roto scoring as well...I thought thought people might like a change. It looks like we should just keep it like it was last year. I agree with the 10 dollar buy in (maybe more, but then it'll be hard to get people to pay up)...

$10 is fine by me, and I'm a tight-ass with cash :)

Don't get me started on imploding pitching. I had Wood, Pettite, and Randy Wolf as my top 3 drafted pitchers last year. I was up there at the top on and off for a while, but I just could not make up the damage to losing so much (supposedly) good pitching.

Should be fun to try and better that this year.

Well I got 2nd to last (not counting the 'dead team')...so I shoud be able to improve...at least I hope so. There is still that one spot that I could drop to, which knowing me, I'll populate this season.

Db, 10 bucks is cool. I would be willing to go higher if all are for it.

I really liked last years setup. It will be fun to play a whole season without my brothers mucking up my line-ups. I was at their mercy for a few months last year. Killed me!

That's what I would like to believe anyhow. :)

Again, thanks for hooking us up db. I know it can be a real pain to run a league. It should be a blast!

I'm interested, if there is room. Will go along with whatever rules you guys want. $10 is fine.

SR?

It's one of my favorites, and I had been listening to cuts from his Unearthed box set all day. Seemed like an appropriate response.

No hard feelings?

SR = Sports Reviewers

The site that most of us came from...it was run by a guy with some serious mental problems, which in turn, led to it's demise.

Frankly, that's a bit too simple of an explanation. I mean it's certainly a reason, but it's just one of many. I think the *real* reason is that a few people left for various reasons and a bunch of others followed them (either here or in leaving). Certainly why I'm here... I had zero problems (well, mostly) with "that guy".

I could name 5 people that if they stopped posting here, this board would disintegrate to dust...

Sorry Kaz, I disagree. While we have some amazing people and personalities here at DSP, I think it has grown enough to sustain the "loss" of the boards "leaders" as sad as their "hypothetical" exit would be.

This board is the greatest sports gaming forum around because of its mature, intelligent yet fun nature.

SR's demise has been disected to death, lets get back to to our upcoming DSP fantasy baseball season.

Go San Diego Pigpen Dodgers.

Boo SFZ's Giants.
