Here is the definition of throw out the records, intense rivalry. The Tigers have never been as far down since Quin took over. Bill Self has the Jayhawks on another peak during there roller coaster season.
It's an early start, 6pm CST on ESPN, but I'm guessing it is going to be damn good game. FWIW, the Lawrence Journal-World has been running simulations of upcoming games using EA's March Madness, and is predicting a Tiger upset.
This game is near and dear to my heart. I'd love to see a Mizzou upset but I don't hold out much hope.
You're right about throwing out the records, which is a great measure of how good a rivalry this really is. Two great programs with great traditions where the favorite has been upset on numerous occasions, especially when highly ranked it seems. And even though Mizzou is down, I expect it to be a good game. One of the most under-appreciated rivalries in all of college hoops.
sorry, but I'm not buying the rivalry right now. Tigerland is so in the dumps I'm getting no trashtalk from the other side.
it's 6 in a row for KU, and Quinn Snyder can't get these guys up for any games. He's dead man walking.
If we were playing someone else tonight, I could see a let down game after espn kissed our butts all day saturday with gameday. But I know this senior class of Simien, Langford, Miles and Lee wants to put another couple spankings on MU before they're done.
True enough. The Tigers can't much lower, but then every time I think that something else happens to show that, no, it gets worse. Just wait until KU travels to Columbia, and there are more Jayhawk fans in the new Arena than Tiger fans. That may be an all new low.
But the fact is, MU does have some good players. They have the ability to play. They hung with Illinois and Oklahoma State, and beat Gonzaga. There is no way I'm betting on KU to beat the spread. They may win by 45, but they may win by 4.
BTW, I can't seem to find out who's calling the game on ESPN. It can't be Vitale again, can it? He's so pro KU that it annoys even me.
Also, I just ran a simulation on ESPN College Hoops. Kansas does not cover, but wins 106-88. How about this for a prediction from my simulation? Mizzou is 4-20 from outside the arc. THAT just may happen.
This could be a dangerous game for Kansas if they are overlooking Mizzou which could be the case. However if i had to take a guess...this game will more than likely be an ass kicking of biblical proportions in favor of the Jayhawks.
I like Quin Snyder a lot. It's too bad because it looks like if no improvement in a couple years it will be fairly hard to justify keeping him, but I like him anyway
To the Missouri guys: I know that Mizz/Kansas are in the same conference, I was just wondering is that rivalry bigger than the Illinois/Missouri rivalry??
It was a pretty good game, I watched bits of it and Missouri had the lead for some time but couldnt pull it out in the end. They Tigers got really impatient on offense while I was watching it in the second half, still was a good game though.

Mizzou was 4-19, and Klieza was 0-5. Mizzou had KU on the ropes and shot themselves right out of the game. Amazing. It seemed like the Tigers were being contolled by a 13-year-old cheezer.
Basically, the Tigers had a great 20-4 run at the end of the first half, but that was it.

Yes, it's bigger. The Illini-Mizzou basketball game is a huge game, but that's about it between Mizzou and Illinois. The game has kind of generated it's own rivalry of sorts, but the feelings aren't as deep in general as they are toward KU.
Mizzou showed more heart than I expected, and I give the team and coaches credit for that.
but the offensive strategy was pathetic. I've seen better zone offense from junior high coaches. In fact, as I was watching that, I though to my jr. high days, how we used to move the ball much better.
4-19 vs. 6-10 from the 3-point line. KU just played a much smarter game. still, had mckinney been healthy, MU could have hung around.
On MU/KU vs. MU/Ill., no question. The kansas/missouri rivalry goes back to civil war days. plus, it's a good rivalry in basketball and football. both teams get up every year, and we know we'll play each other. In Quin's press conference 6 years ago when he was hired, they asked him about beating KU. No questions on Illinios.

Mizzou and Kansas is a much bigger rivalry. One of the most underated college rivalries for sure. Do you guys remember Ryan Robertson? He was highly recruited by both Mizzou and Kansas and was a St. Charles MO native. He chose Kansas over Mizzou and was labeled a traitor. Robertsons father tried to tell Mizzou coach Norm Stewart why they chose Kansas over Mizzou and Stewart looked him in the eye and told him "Mr. Robertson I really have nothing to say so why don't you just go put on your blue coat.

Ryan Robertson's parents were K-State grads, so it's not like they owed him anything.
Funny how a man (Stewart) who has participated or coached in half of the games in school history is hated by the big money players at Mizzou like Stan Kroenke and Bill Laurie.

I've never figured that out either. Norm, while he didn't reach a final four, won a lot of conference titles, had a wonderful '94 team that went undefeated in the big 8 and finished in the top 5, just missing the final four losing to a great arizona team, and MU ALWAYS played tough vs. KU.
we really took MU seriously because of norm. he made the rivalry fun b/c he hated us so much. I still respect him greatly.
quin? he's clueless and classless. KU no longer respects MU on any level. whether it's the .500 basketball team, cranky football coach, racist university president (the ricky clemons/cracker/elston floyd debacle), paige sports arena...

He went to St. Charles West, the same high school I went to. It irked me he went to Kansas, but hell... he had a great career there.
I didn't get to see the game but I heard we were up 11 at half and then proceeded to get our asses handed to us.
ku fans will remember robertson fondly, for he got a couple wins in columbia.
but I just can't get out of my mind robertson's last game, a terrific 30+ point game vs. kentucky in the 99 2nd round ncaa, but at the end, rather than take the winning shot, he passes to kenny gregory who sh-ts the bed, drops it out of bounds, and despite leading by 4 with under a minute, KU goes out.

Not to mention Jeff Boschee jacking up 21 threes in the game......man he was out of control during that game.
