OT: DVD Burner Software?

Post by Diablo25 »

I recently purchased a DVD burner for my PC and it came with no burning software. I just want to know what kind of software I need to just copy my own DVD movies (Not purchased/protected ones). I'm talking like stuff I recorded off TV with my DVD recorder? Its not protected content or anything. Any recommendations on free software?

Check out this software:

I've been using it for CD Burning for a while with no problems at all.

DVD shrink has no burning software in it - just compresses the DVD footage to the appropriate size.

I use Nero 6 to burn the things to disk.
"The players come from all over the world, the money from deep underneath the Persian Gulf, but, as another, older City poster campaign put it, this is their city. They may now exist in the global spotlight, but they intend to keep it that way."

you just have to have the demo of nero installed for dvd shrink to burn to disc. you don't even have to open up nero for it to work.

Isn't the demo only good for a certain time?

Edit: Nevermind, sorry I didn't see the free part of your question before. Sonic DVD is not free.

==================
Heh, I just posted this same info in another thread, but anyway:

I like Sonic DVD - http://www.sonic.com/products/mydvd/mydvd/default.asp

There are 3 different versions of it (Basic - Pro), and if you have a TIVO with the most recent software updates, you can burn TIVO recorded contect to DVD as well. The basic version has the following feature set:

Disc Authoring

* Fit-to-DVD automatic quality setting
* Create DVD+VR discs for DVD recorders
* Creates true 16:9 widescreen movies
* Double-layer DVD+R disc recording
* Import DVDs created with non-Sonic products
* Create personalized labels and inserts

Video and Photo Slideshow Creation

* New professionally designed styles
* 1000 photos per slideshow
* Save movies as MPEG-2 files
* Drag and drop instant slideshow creation
* Direct-from-camera slideshow creation
* Automatic picture orientation correction
* Add, fade and loop audio to slideshows

Import and Capture

* Capture from DV and Digital8 devices
* Capture from MPEG and analog capture devices
* Capture from DirectShow capture device
* Import, edit and burn MPEG-4 and DivX file

dvd shrink works as long as you have the demo version of nero on your drive. you do not have to ever validate nero nor do you ever happen to open it. the instructions on how to install and operate it are on the dvd shrink website

If you record a TV show on a DVD, why do you need a burner on a PC?

Unless you are using DVD+ recorders which supposedly lets you take a disc you record on a set-top recorder, take it to a PC, and edit it, like take out the commercials.
