Nice 2.1 TV/gaming speakers for $20

Post by pk500 »

Boys:

Here's a nice deal on basic TV/gaming speakers for $20:

http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?s ... dcaid=1688

I own these Altec Lansing speakers, and they're excellent for 2.1 stereo speakers.

Yeah, they're not surround sound. Yeah, they're not 5.1 or 6.1. Yeah, they're pretty ugly, with the atomic bomb woofer. But they're a HELL of a lot better than TV speakers, and they're only $20 with free shipping. They retailed at $90-100 when first released. Oh, and they have a cool lime green-and-black color that dovetails nicely with an Xbox.

I thought I was getting a steal when I bought these at brick-and-mortar for $40. They're really nice budget speakers that work well with TV and console audio output.

Take care,
PK

For that price, I think I'm going to purchase this. All I have right now is my regular old 25" Magnavox tv.

Thanks for the info Pk.

Dan:

I was in the same ship as you: I have a 10-year-old, 32-inch Sony Trinitron, and I wanted better sound. But I didn't want to shell out $300 or more for a 5.1 system.

These speakers fit the bill very nicely for me at $40. They're a steal at $20. Just check out the positive feedback from buyers at buy.com. I agree with them wholeheartedly.

Take care,
PK

I remember when those speakers came out. They cost like $100? Horribly overpriced.

At $20 looks like a nice deal.

How exactly would these get conncted to your xbox?

I currently have a component cable [?? the one with the yellow, red and white ends] running from my xbox to my tv input.

What type of cable would I need to utilize the speakers and sub?

Thanks.

Thanks PK! I just ordered them...free shipping and all. I've been looking for a budget speaker setup for my bedroom TV. Its a 32" that I have my old XBOX hooked up to for occasional gaming and DVD use. This should work great. Thanks again dude.

Vrak:

I don't have them connected to my Xbox; I have them connected to the outputs on my TV, with the cables included with the speakers.

These are complete TV/gaming speakers, not just connected to the console. They provide audio output for anything displayed on my TV.

Take care,
PK

About how much do they weigh? I'd like to get them but they don't ship to PR. Maybe I can get someone to buy it for me and ship it down here if it doesn't cost too much.

Thanks PK. I'm pretty sure I've got audio outputs as well on my tv set, in fact I hope so as I've already ordered a set of these speakers :D

sorry to threadjack, but is this a good option if I want to go 5.1 for my xbox? My TV does have the digital audio optical inputs and outputs.

Thanks,

If the built-in receiver has a standard optical digital cable connection, you'd be fine with this. Unfortunately, Altec Lansing's web site doesn't have any info on the specific type of input connections it has.

Diablo:

Click on the Max Bass button on the controller to get a little more "oomph," if you haven't already. I use the middle setting, called Gaming, as my default. The first setting, called TV, doesn't offer enough bass for me.

Being a complete TV audio idiot, I also thought the sound was kind of muddled when I first got these. Then I realized I still had audio flowing from my TV speakers while using these speakers simultaneously! Dipsh*t!

I canceled all sound from my TV speakers, letting these speakers handle all audio, and my basement started sounding more like Carnegie Hall ... :)

Take care,
PK
