commentary in sports games sucks

Post by fletcher21 »

man if i hear that "we;re not used to seeing him hit like that!" comment from nhl2k5 again im going to go nuts... its so repetitive, i wish they could make it more free flowing... every time you make a big hit, you know what they will say and i dunno, i wish it had a lot more variety....

the first time i heard madden on ps1 i was blown away, but after a while it got old, and you heard the same things over and over.... sometimes they are way out of place... again in nhl2k5, sometimes you will miss a pass and it will get to the goalie and the announcers will say "what a save!" when it was nothing at all.... little s*** like this gets to me, maybe i am in the minority but i'd def pay a little more for some better commentary, but this is prolly as good as it will get for a while

I just want to know WTF is an "overcaffeinated origami artist"?

The ESPN Baseball commentary is OK, but I hate Rex Hudler's "Nice eyeeeee." It's funny because my toddler picked up on it and when he was younger everytime I was playing video games he would point to the screen and say "Nice eyeeeeeee." Needless to say, I don't play GTA:SA when he is awake in the same room.

I usually ditch the commentary and go with crowd sounds after a while. Madden sounds so much better when you use the On the Field setting. The ESPN games are nice becuase, if you take the time to use the Stadium Sounds feature, it really can add a lot of atmosphere. Unfortunately it takes forever and a day to burn MP3s to the XBox hard drive.

The best commentary I've ever heard in a video game is still the NCAA Football series.

A game that has three different sets of commentary for the fullback scoring a touchdown on a short yardage run up the middle has good commentary.

Yeah, and WTF is up with XBL not connecting to the ICDDB? Am I so spoiled by iTunes, or is this the no-brainer I think it is? Honestly, I would have 10x as much music on my Xbox if i didn't have to individually name evry freaking track.

Nicky Grist's co-driver commentary in Colin McRae Rallly 2005 is lovely and perfect ... :P

Take care,

I wasn't even thinking about that, Zepp, just the slow speed, but you're right, having to name everything is a huge pain. Plus, the XBox uses the d*****bag alpha order keyboard interface, which is counter-intuitive to anyone who knows how to type.

However, when Project Gotham 2 came out, I did spend one weekend downloading a lot of tunes, and then used those in NFL 2k5. It's time-consuming, but the end result is very nice. Nothing like having "No More Mr. Nice Guy" play after you've sacked somebody. I need to try it out in NBA 2k5.

EDIT: the filter here never ceases to amuse me. I can say asshole but not d*****bag. Let's test it:

"All you gotta say is 'earmuffs' to him, and you can say, 'f***, s***, b*tch..."
"Cock. Balls."
"I'm just trying to make a point, Frank. You don't have to celebrate it."
