Aggressive Inline -- wow!

Post by pk500 »

Hi all:

I´m a fan of "extreme" sports games, including the Tony Hawk, Dave Mirra and Mat Hoffman series for various consoles.

But no extreme sports game has blown me away quite like Aggressive Inline for the Xbox, which I rented a few days ago. Man, this game is a f*cking blast.

Huge levels, tons of objectives, tons of great trick options, great graphics, addictive gameplay, unique "juice" system. This game is the dog´s balls. Can´t recommend it enough.

Damn, there´s another drain on the wallet coming up!

I know this might be heresy to some, but I think Z-Axis might be toppling Neversoft as the best developer of extreme-sports titles. Z-Axis first developed the brilliant Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX and now Aggressive Inline. Two absolutely killer games with wrinkles unique to both, not simply a carbon copies but with different equipment. Too often I think Mat Hoffman is just a Tony Hawk clone on BMX bikes.

Take care,

Cool. I haven´t played it (or many of the other extreme games for that matter). Ah well. Are there any extreme games that you´re really looking fwd to?

Jared:

Not really. Kelly Slater´s Pro Surfer looks interesting, but not enough to pry $50 from my wallet.

XXX BMX will rely too much on nude chicks, dogs sh*tting and profanity instead of innovative gameplay, I fear. We´ll see.

I would like to see a real snowmobiling game developed for the Xbox, not the abomination that the Sled Storm sequel was on the PS2.

EA Big has become a joke of a developer after such an amazing start with SSX and NBA Street. Every EA Big extreme sports game basically takes the tiring SSX formula and applies it to that particular extreme sport. Silly.
PK,

Thanks for the heads up. I will definitely have to give this a rental, along with NHL Hitz.
Why is that such a bad thing? SSX Tricky is one of the best extreme games ever....near-perfect controls, amazing venues with a huge replay factor, a great soundtrack, etc. I´d much rather have a series of games that´s formulaic and excellent than something that a bit original yet inconsistent.

Jared:

I guess I´ll agree to disagree.

SSX was fun, fresh, original. Tricky was OK, but a bit mundane. It really added little to the SSX formula.

Sled Storm and Freekstyle? Just ripoffs of gamers, milking the SSX formula for all EA could get.
