I personally think it´s a dope game. I was skeptical because I liked SS3 a lot but after a few hours of ONLINE play last night with Amped....I´m hooked.

The tricks are a little easier to land this year so you don´t have to be absolutely freaking perfect like you did last year which is a good thing because last years on the higher levels got a little frustrating.

The trick system is still in tact from last year so it´s very responsive and fluid.

The graphics rival SSX3 so that´s just gravy as well.

The mountains are HUGE and you can go ANYWHERE, which is a good thing of course. SSX3 finally included it this year but it doesn´t seem to be as expansive as Amped.

The addition of online play was awesome. PK and I played a few games last night and just chatted through the whole thing. Well between his "land it you son of a b*tch" outbursts. LOL.

Amped2 is definitely a good addition to my library and it will stay there. Just waiting for my copy of Top Spin to get in. Grrrr...the wait is killing me.

From what PK told me, he´s digging on Amped 2, so if he´s not here to speak for himself, I´ll do it for em.

[ This message was edited by: dbdynsty25 on 30-10-2003 10:42 ]

Going to pick this one up on the TRU deal today. I will just get RS-3, TS, and Amped2 and then return the unopened copies of RS-3 and TS to EB with my receipt from yesterday. None of the TRU´s around here had those games in yesterday and you can´t expect me to wait !!!

OK, OK! Damn, a brother drives 140 miles round trip to perform twice-annual maintenance on his rental property and catches s*** because he´s not here to pimp Amped 2!

I´ll echo what DB said. He and I played Amped 2 on XBL last night -- first time we´ve played together in a game with voice, as the voice didn´t work in our one game of ESPN NHL -- and it was fun as hell.

Amped 2 is the perfect conversational, relaxing game on XBL. DB and I talked more about football than gaming as we tricked -- or in my case, tripped -- our way down the mountain. Basically, each person´s trick, media and overall score is ranked after each run, and you´re put into a results table after each run, showing where you compare to other riders currently on the mountain. So it´s more than just conversation -- there is competition.

And as I told DB, I can´t wait to play Amped 2 online when I´m f*cked up, either.

Amped 2 is more of the same of Amped but at a higher level. Better, longer mountains -- going down the glacier in New Zealand is SICK -- and way more opportunities for tricks with jumps, ramps, pipes, etc. The control layout is almost the same, with the exception of the new Butter control with the left stick and grabs with the right stick. I haven´t got a feel for Butter or grabs yet, as this game definitely has a learning curve if you haven´t played Amped at all or haven´t played it in a while, as the latter is the case for me.

But pulling off tricks -- the heart of the game -- is much tougher than SSX 3. But as I said in my column, SSX and Amped are different games.

In a nutshell, if you want F-Zero or another arcade racer on snow, get SSX 3. If you want Tony Hawk on snow, get Amped 2.

Amped 2 will have infinite amounts of challenge for me because of all of the tricks you can chain together, and I already can see online play is really relaxing and really fun.

Man, last night was one fun night of XBL. Amped 2, Top Spin and Rainbow Six 3 on XBL all new, all in one night. For those who say XBL isn´t the best online console gaming right now, I say try these games. XBL is really coming into its own this month.

So the presentation and graphics are top notch ?

Why the hell do ALL the gameply movies I see look like they are on the same track, with the same lighting and the same type jumps and pipes ??? Is there a big diversity in the courses ?
Spooky:

Absolutely. The graphics and presentation are on par with any other snowboarding game out there. SSX has a greater variety of colors, but it should as an arcadish game.

And there´s a huge difference between boarding at a regular resort and boarding on a glacier in New Zealand. Trust me -- I did both last night, and there was a huge difference betwen the areas with one common denominator: I sucked on both but still had fun!

I´ve gotta say that SSX 3 is a lot better than Amped in the presentation department. I am man enough to admit that. SSX 3 is in a class by itself when it comes to presenting the game. The underlying game itself is great as well, but it´s just too arcade for me. Amped 2 just doesn´t compare when it comes to presentation.

As for the different mountains...there are like 10 different mountains in Amped and from what I can tell they are all different. Seems to me like the movies you saw were all from the same mountain...that would be my guess anyway.

Spooky, it´s as simple as this. If you like the racing and ease of pulling off tricks...stick with SSX3...you seriously can´t go wrong with it. But if you want a little more of a challenge, trick-wise, and a more realistic snowboarding experience, along with XBOX Live play and custom soundtracks, you definitely need to pick up Amped.

The fact that PK and I just chilled, talked about football and just ran up and down the mountain for a little while was a damn great time and it cannot be duplicated no matter how pretty or well presented a game is. That is my deciding factor right there.
Good points. But I must disagree with you on the presentation deficit of Amped 2.

Amped 2 presents you with the feeling of actually snowboarding on a real mountain better than any other snowboarding game I´ve played. That´s what I seek from Amped, and it delivers in spades.

Now, SSX 3 delivers the sensation of playing a futuristic, funky snowboard racing game on a neon-filled mountain. Kind of like Candy Land on acid on snowboards. Very cool, and it does it very well.

I´m man enough to admit that I think both games present the atmospheres they´re trying to convey really, really well. Again, it´s tough to compare both games head to head as SSX 3 is a racing game on boards while Amped 2 is a tricks game on boards.

Fair enough...don´t get me wrong...I think Amped is very good, and you´re right, they do what they want...produce a quality, realistic snowboarding game. My jaw dropped when I popped SSX in though...that´s what I was making my judgement on. Regardless, both games are good...just depends which style you like better...I agree with you...I dig Amped 2.

Guys,

First off, Thanks a ton for the feedback !

One last question as I am about to tear open this sucker after my little TRU/EB excursion, are all the areas open for online play or do you have to open things up in single player to use online ???

Thanks guys !

All the areas ARE open for online play. You can pick any of the 10+ mountains when you host the game. You can have them cycle after the ´time limit´ has been reached too. So for instance, you can set the rotation to include whichever mountains you want, in whichever order and then you choose a time limit. So after the first time expires, you go to the second mountain and so on until you´ve went through the whole cycle of mountains that you chose.
