Jared,
Just so you will know, I used the DT the whole game and I never, ever speed burst with him. I never speed burst on defense anyway.

Yes there were times that there was a clear lane to the qb and I'm not sure if you even noticed that a few times I actually steered my guy away from your qb on purpose because I felt bad about not being blocked. I'm not sure what you did different on those last few drives, but since I had a 12 point lead, I kind of let it all hang out with my playcalling. I called a lot more blitzes in the 4th quarter because I wanted to get as much pressure as I could. I mainly stayed in zone and 4 man fronts and even some 3-4 in the first 3 quarters.

I'm not sure if my defensive playcalling lent itself to getting more pressure or if there really is a glitch, but I wanted to make it clear that I did the same thing the ENTIRE game. I controlled the same DT the whole game and never speed burst.

Maybe I'm confused a little about what the speed burst is. If there's a flashing yellow thing under the DT right after the snap, I assume that's the speed burst. Maybe that's a power up (and different from the speed burst). Regardless, that's what I'm talking about. And the DT glitch can be exploited even without the power-up/speed burst. It doesn't have much to do with using the power-up and more to do with offensive guard AI play. The power-up just helps IF the guard gets a piece of the DT....it's easier to bounce off the guard instead of getting caught in a guard animation. But on the times when the DT gets in unblocked, it doesn't matter if you're using a power-up or not.

And I didn't know that you had used the DT the whole game. I didn't have the ball much in the 1st three quarters, so maybe I just didn't notice it until the 4th. Regardless, I don't want this to turn into accusations that you are consciously cheesing, because I am most definitely not saying that. However, using the DT is generally considered off-limits because it's so exploitable. (Lots of people online have a "no tackles" rule in non-league ESPN games because of the glitch.) I rarely use the DT because of this. It's better that people be aware of the glitch and possibly make rules against it...especially if most of the sack leaders in the league are DTs.

There are problems with DT blocking even with the CPU controlled DTs. My best pass rusher is Alfonso "Buffet Line" Boone, hardly a QB threat, and I rarely control him. If there is a line shift or blitz, the guards in ESPN often get confused and will try and block someone other than the 300 pounder in front of them. If you don't control the DL at all, you'll probably notice that your greatest pressure comes from the middle, not the ends, of your line.

It's been that way for years in both ESPN and Madden, but it's more pronounced in ESPN. However, as with DE rushes, audibling blocks and rolling out/moving in the pocket can help a lot. The ESPN playbooks tend to have backs flying out for routes -- it's important to audible blockers if you're going to try and get more than 2 seconds in the pocket.

Also, for reference, to "hot route" a back to block, click the right thumbstick, then select which back to have stay in and block. I think that works with TEs too.

Amen to both of those. I audible blocks to TEs and RBs on almost every pass play. And the DTs often do arrive unblocked without human participation.

Rob, I've got a weird work schedule for the next couple months, 5pm-1am weekdays, so I can either play after 2am east coast, or on the weekends.

Let's set it up for the weekend then. Evenings are best, but I understand if you're thrown off because of that weekday schedule.

No biggie. I was playing Armies of Exigo, which is like sticking hot needles into my eyes, for review last night..hoping you'd show up as an excuse to do something else. Sunday night will be the next time I can play most likely.
