This game was not on my radar but the early reviews have been outstanding. Anyone biting?

A definite rental for me. Very curious about dogfighting on Xbox Live.

Is the game more mission-based or is it all about combat? I want to shoot down people on Xbox Live, not have them as dogfighting obstacles en route to completing a mission.

Definitely has piqued my interest but I have yet to see 1 single screenshot with a 1st- person view. I can´t stand playing flight games without a 1st-person view. Does anyone know if it will have one?

[ This message was edited by: ScoopBrady on 21-10-2003 15:41 ]

For live play there are several different game play modes to choose from. Some are death match, team death match, CTF, and something called wild chicken(i think it is like rabbitt in MM3). Hopefully I can find a copy tomorrow.

I believe it is only third person view also.

This game is a blast. Not very realistic at all in terms of the flying, or for that matter anything really, but a lot of fun. Think Rogue Squadron type control, complete with boosts, but added with special-move type immelmans and barrel rolls.

But the graphics in this game are amazing. I love the AA guns with the zoom view.

Online, this game is incredible. I´ve never seen any kind of lag (though I have been dumped from servers randomly, especially at the end of a game). Team dogfight, dogfight, flag chase, the thing with the chicken, it´s all great fun online.

I never really realized how much I have been waiting for this game. Not Crimson Skies specifically (wasn´t this supposed to be a launch title for the Xbox?) but an online flying shoot-em-up. And this game does a superb online flying shoot-em-up, with a damn good single player mode to boot.

Maybe someday we should have poker night be a round of this game, everybody give it a rent just to try it out. I guarantee we´d have a blast.

btw my gamertag is CP Zeppo.

See you guys in the online skies!

How many maps are playable online ???

Also, is the online experience really that different than just mindless flying around and shooting (i.e. is it different than a Mechassault or Unreal type game other than the flying aspect) ?

The game looks really cool and sounds fun, I am just a little jaded on another ´shooter´ online where after the novelty of flying wears off, it is just another ´shooter´...

Count me in as a member of the Crimson Skies bandwagon. I rented this game tonight and played offline for about 20 minutes and online with a bunch of guys from Operation Sports for about 90 minutes.

Big-time fun. Addictive gameplay, especially online. But there´s a fun, challenging offline game, unlike Midtown Madness 3. Fantastic graphics and music. This is like Indiana Jones in the air.

Damn you, Microsoft. I didn´t have room in the budget for this game. But if I continue to have fun with this one, I´m going to have scrape up some more s*** to sell on eBay so I can buy Crimson Skies.

I highly recommend a rental of this game. Man, online dogfighting has Poker Night written all over it, as I think someone already said.

PK,
I heard from Brent and he said he played Crimson Skies with you a bit yesterday. Yep Brent! We have decided to put all the BS behind us and move on.

Anyhow ,this game sounds awsome. I really didn´t want to spend anymore money on games this month. But after reading all these posts I think I gotta get the puppy.

I still can´t get broadband in my area ,but as soon as I do I am going to go LIVE. They are telling me December. ARGH!!!

Maybe we can strike up a friendly DS vs OS online league. Think about it,those guys are top shelf and wouldn´t cheese. We could do ID,ESPN Football and Crimson Skies. It might be kinda fun.

What do you think brother?

PK,

Thanks for the impressions. You would be a good person to address my concerns with replay value on this one. Do you think that after the flight aspect wears off (if it even does), that it will end up being just another shooter (online that is) ??? I am really on the fence with this one. I am all about cool new LIVE games, but I have learned to be a bit more cautious with all the ´shooters´ out there and all the games with the same type modes (capture the flag, team, ect...)...
Damn guys! You´re gonna drive me into the poorhouse. I just spent money I shouldn´t have ordering MGP2 so I can join in the DSP league and now PK starts hinting at Crimson Skies poker night. I guess I may have to dig into my old comics and see what I can get rid of on e-bay. I knew this one was probably going to be a draw for me anyway. I was a major Wing Commander addict back in the day.

Hey Spook,

CS may just be my favorite Live shooter yet.

That said, I have yet to play a Live shooter (or anything on Live other than something that lends itself to leagues, like sports games or racers, actually) that *doesn´t* get old after the initial excitement wears off.

I love the dogfighting, the game plays pretty much lag free, and the maps lend themselves well to the various game modes.

Sooner or later you will have experienced it all. What´s good about CS, however, is that it actually has a pretty decent 1p game as well.

But you definitely need to give CS at least a rent. Great fun.

[ This message was edited by: webdanzer on 25-10-2003 15:08 ]

CS is very fun. The only thing that has taken me away from ESPN 24/7 mode has been CS.

The only problem with having a poker night for CS is that Rainbow Six 3 comes out in a week.

Itemized deductions:

1. Sorry for the tardy reply. Frau and I went to Toronto Saturday for a fun day, The Lion King, night out on the town and a stop at the Duty Free for a case of Brador and Upper Canada Rebellion!

2. Jack: I enjoyed playing with the OS guys. Brent and I have had our share of battles, but we´ve always made up quickly. Unlike many current and past SR users, I´ve had no problem with the boys from OS in a long, long time. We´re all gamers, right?

3. Spooky: I´m very wary of what I call the "Midtown Madness" factor with any non-sports XBL game. MM blew me away the first week I owned it, but the XBL fun wore off pretty quickly. The game just became mindless driving. And MM has an AWFUL offline game. So I felt like I was burned a bit on that purchase even though I made decent cake on the half.com sale.

But so far, Crimson Skies has a very challenging and varied offline game, and the online play is very fun. I made sure I got a five-day rental so I could really stretch the legs of XBL play, and so far I´m very impressed.

Is Crimson Skies a must-buy for me? Not yet, especially with at least three must-buys on my list in the next three weeks. But it is a very pleasant surprise and a game that I may consider buying if I do better than expected on my eBay sales this month.

Crimson Skies is a very fun change of pace from the barrage of military shooters, racing games and team sports games I play. A very nice diversion. The atmosphere -- story, music, varied missions, graphics -- really pulls you into the whole "Rocketeer meets Indiana Jones" vibe.

Very fun game.

Take care,

Thanks for the reply PK.
I got to play it last night and I have almost the exact impressions you do PK.

Hey guys,

Well, I took some PC games I´ve quit playing in to EB and came home with Crimson Skies and a $5 credit on an EB gift card. Not a bad trip. So far I´m having a blast with it. If a poker night evolves out of it I´m definitely in but if not I´m still gonna have quite a bit of fun.

I picked it up today at TRU.

I´m waiting to see if this game stands the test of time....unlike Midtown Madness 3.

If not....I will exchange it for Amped 2....so keep the impressions coming.

At this rate...we might have a poker night for every day of the week with all the great games coming out.

Well I have about as much will power as Chilly Willy sat in front of a giant stack of pancakes and all the syrup and butter he can eat...

I bought Crimson Skies yesterday. Afer my buddy brought it over on Sat. night, I kept thinking about the smooth gameplay and the beautiful scenery. Then there was the urge to play just one more dogfight to use that cool spin reversal move successfully. On top of the fact that I might be missing out on a game that all my DSP buddies are playing !!!

Anyway, I hosted 3 or 4 games last night and had anywhere from 11 to 16 players at once and it was so damn smooth ! We had 16 players in the cool underground area and it was absolutely insane. It was like a swarm of misquitos. One game, we all used the Gyro Copter. Very fun.

I am actaully very curious to play with only like 6 players at once to get more of a chase and hunt atmosphere going. Either way this game is a blast online (have not touched the single player yet).

Also, I can definitely see the novelty wearing off, BUT, ultimately, who cares !?!?!? The novelty eventually wears off EVERY game I have, then I just sell it or trade it in. No big whoop. At the moment I am glad I own CS and will play the hell out of it until I don´t want to anymore !

I bought a copy on Sunday and I really like it. I have only played the single player mode so far. I will be there if a DSP poker night evolves.
