Frustrated Again - CMR 3 On Xbox Delayed!!

Post by grtwhtsk »

What is the deal? Now CMR 3 has beed delayed on the xbox until March!

http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/categories/p ... _id=227143

The PS2 version is still scheduled for 11/19. I´m beginning to seriously wonder what is going on here. It just seems like the xbox is constantly getting the shaft with these games which are on both the PS2 and xbox. Now am I supposed to go out and buy a PS2 so I can play this and other games (i.e. Pro Race Driver which comes out for the PS2 on 10/22, but February or March for the Xbox)? I am really ticked off.
I feel your pain -- big-time.

I did a head-to-head comparison last night of upcoming PS2 and Xbox driving titles through Christmas, and there are about eight juicy racing games coming out for the PS2 and maybe two for the Xbox with all these delays. The PS2 clearly will be the best racing console by Christmas, which has me thinking.

The only things that are keeping me from selling my Xbox and going to the PS2 now are Xbox Live, especially for Unreal Championship and NHL 2K3, and that I still really like my ´box and the games I have for it.

But if Xbox Live is a disappointment and the voice chat isn´t as cool as I think it will be, then my days as an Xbox owner will be numbered.

Microsoft better put more pressure on its third-party developers to release multi-platform titles either simultaneously or around the same time. I could wait three or four weeks for CMR 3 and Pro Race Driver. But three or four months? That´s rough.

The rumor of Pro Race Driver being online for the Xbox helps my patience. But there was no such bone rumored to the Xbox faithful when the delay of CMR 3 was reported.

MS can promise better graphics, the hard drive, etc. But the fact is that none of that makes a f*cking bit of difference without software. Gamers are impatient people: When hardcore racing gamers see CMR and Pro Race Driver running on a PS2 with only slightly inferior graphics than the Xbox, they´re going to think seriously about ditching the Xbox for the PS2.

I know I am. Xbox Live will tell the tale, for sure.

Take care,
PK

Frustrated Again - CMR 3 On Xbox Delayed!!

PK,

I´m with you my friend. My patience is surely bending me quite a bit. Having NHL2K3 online exclusively for the Xbox is a plus, as is Unreal Championship. I´m just afraid of the minuses outweighing the plusses in the long run. Right now though I am going to "stay put." Like you I really enjoy my xbox and want to stick it out. Think of how Sony reps (if they read these boards) and all the PS2 fanboys are feeling right now. They are loving this. The console wars are getting ugly. Companies like MS having to buy software developers so they can have exclusive games, and others such as Codemasters pushing their titles way back for the xbox.

I just have to say something, and I hope it´s ok with you and all the rest of the community here at DS. I don´t have the money at the present time to own two or three systems. At one time, I owned all three. I had to sell two of them as the finances got real tight. I was to blame for a good deal of that as my video game and DVD buying had gotten out of hand. I had games which took days before I even opened. DVDs that are still unopened. My wife loves to bring all this up when we argue. My 4 year old son (soon to be 5) is begging me to buy another GC with Mario Sunshine. It breaks my heart that I can´t afford to go out and get that system for him. Instead I hope to be able to possibly do so around Christmas (but that is only if some prayers are answered). Now I sit here and wonder if I did the right thing, xbox or PS2....sometimes I think about that every day given the posts going back and forth on the games. It´s enough to boggle the mind. And with all that said, my little boy (who I only see once a week, and every other weekend) just wants to play the GC....and I feel terrible for ever selling it. Sorry guys, but thanks for listening.

Don´t feel bad -- you did the right thing by selling the systems.

Video games are a hobby, but they can become an obsession, which is dangerous.

You´re also doing the right thing in regards to your son, in my opinion. My daughter turns 4 in two months, and I don´t even let her touch my Xbox.

I think it´s just too damn early for her to even think about gaming. She´s almost 4 -- she should be reading, playing with friends outside, knocking around plastic golf balls, playing soccer, drawing, coloring, singing, dancing -- in other words, all the things that kids should do. Kids watch WAY too much television in the U.S., and video games only compound that malady.

My daughter and 1-year-old son get one hour of TV per day, including movies. That´s it. We´ll make rare exceptions, such as this morning. My daughter watched "The Swan Princess III" movie, which was 90 minutes. But in return, she couldn´t watch "Little Bill" and "Dora The Explorer" on Nick Jr. today. She knew it beforehand and was cool with it.

Too many parents -- and I´m not implicating you one bit, Great White -- use TV as a babysitter. My wife and I refuse to let that happen with our kids, and video games are a part of that TV dynamic.

Hell, we adults have problems controlling our video gaming urges. Kids lack the discipline of most adults, so that´s why we keep our kids far away from gaming, at least for now.

Take care,
PK

PK,

Thanks so much for your reply. It really meant a lot. You were correct on all points, and I really need to drill these things into my head. In fact, I am going to print your reply so that I can keep it as a reminder to keep my head on straight.

Thanks again my friend.

Hey Guys,

Not to diminish the serious tone this thread has taken (your comments really hit home with me too PK) but I tried to get some news on the delay. I sent a request to Codemasters asking for some info and this is the reply I got:

Hi, Joe,

The latest word we have is still ´Winter 2002´ (according to the latest press release dated Sept. 12 it´s due out "November 2002") for both the PS2 and Xbox. The date EB has listed looks like it could be for the PC version, it´s due out Spring 2003!

Thank you,

John

Codemasters USA
Technical Support

I smells of canned response but maybe EB is confused with either the PC release or the release date for Race Driver. The release dates are keyed in by people and we do make mistakes. (Fingers Crossed)

MixDJ1

P.S. I´m sitting here at working listening to my Halo Soundtrack CD, trying to dig up info on a release date for a game that won´t be out for at least a month and a half anyway. Nah, I´m not obsessed.

I just checked Gamestop and they still have the release date as 11/19 for the Xbox.

http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=210228

Neither Ebgames or Gamestop has anything listed for CMR 3 for the PC.

Check out these links and let me know what you think (where is Pro Race Driver for the xbox?):

Boys:

I love Codemasters´ games, and I shouldn´t rip the company too much because it´s making an IRL game and I work for the IRL, but the Codies are flakier than a fresh apple turnover about release dates and delays.

Trying to pinpoint release dates for each systems for Codemasters´ games feels a lot like playing "Pin the Tail on the Donkey."

Speaking of donkeys, I´m going to kick somebody´s ass if the Codies scrap the Xbox versions of Pro Race Driver and/or Colin McRae Rally 3. At this point, I´d be satisified with a straight port of the PS2 versions.
I picked up Rallisport Challenge for $25 on half.com as a stopgap solution until CMR 3 is released for the Xbox.

RC is no CMR in terms of absolute realism, but it is fun and more realistic than I was led to believe. Many reviewers and gamers depicted this game as V-Rally 2 with incredible graphics, but I think RC has better car handling and less floaty physics than V-Rally 2.

Plus the graphics are absolutely gorgeous -- best I´ve seen in a console driving game and rivaled on the Xbox only by Halo and Dead or Alive 3.
