Amen to that, JD.

All season long I hammered Dusty for being dumb and wildly overrated. And all season long I had to listen to people I know and the media tell me that I was picking nits because they were winning...and he´s "changed the attitude."

Well thank you Dusty for providing Exhibit B (Exhibit A being last year´s post-season) proving up the case that you´re a fraud of LaRussan proportions.

He managed to take an 85-win team to the heady reaches of an 88-win season by working the youngest starting staff in baseball harder than a 19th century sweat shop.

Then he spends the entire post-season expecting those same horses to carry him 120-130 pitches deep into games even when he should SEE that they´re gassed.

And this doesn´t even begin to address his misguided notions about roster construction and bullpen (mis)management.

The icing on the cake is getting out-managed by Jack McKeon, a yeoman skipper but nobody´s idea of a baseball savant. But at least he had the sense to know that you have to manage differently in the post-season, especially Game 7. That´s no place to let your starters work into finding their good stuff.

He let Prior and Wood go WAY beyond the point where even a novice (say...my wife who was having a stroke about the issue tonight) could see that they were running on fumes.

That kid is not exculpated by Baylor´s ineptitude, and obviously despite it the Cubs were only 5 outs away. But hopefully we can have an end to the hagiography that´s surrounded Baker for the last five years.
Good post.

Plus, I´m a word guy, and you taught me a new word: Hagiography. Had to pull out the Webster´s on that one.

Cool!
Take care,
