Madden - PS2 vs Xbox

Post by grtwhtsk »

Guys, I've decided to get Madden now that it has dropped in price. Question is for those that have played both versions, which would you go with? Please give your reasons on which you prefer. Thanks guys.

I own both and play both a lot.

Without hesitation I recommend the XBOX version over the PS2 version. This coming from a guy who sticks up for the PS2 for sports games due mainly for the controller.

However, the game just runs a lot smoother on the XBOX then it does on the PS2. I think that the new flash interface introduced into the EA Sports titles this year is just too much for the PS2 hardware to handle.

Not only does the game run smoother on the XBOX, but it just has a much smoother look to it as well.

**EDIT**
Another bonus is that I have had better luck finding strait up games playing "randoms" on the XBOX then I do with the PS2.

Okay...now can anyone who has played the PS2 version let me know what they think please. I have played the Xbox version, just curious how the PS2 plays and looks.

I have the Xbox version but had a chance to play my brother in law with the PS2 version down here in Tennessee. I didn't really notice that much of a difference between the 2 other than the Xbox game looking better.

You are making a bit too much of this... the games are for all intents and purposes identical. Get the one that's cheaper, or get the one that has the controller you enjoy most. If that ends in a tie, then get the Xbox version (slightly better graphics and you can use the hard drive instead of clogging up a memory card).

They are for all intents and purposes the same game. However, the same game runs much smoother on the XBOX. I'm telling you right now, the game chugs a little bit on the PS2. No too much, and it's mostly during the play-calling screen or when it tries to load an instant replay, but it IS noticeably choppier on the PS2.

The colors are a little bit more bright and vivid on the PS2, but they do have a rougher overall appearance.

I don't know, take it for what it's worth. I've played over 75 games on each console so you probably won't get a more fair comparison than the one I have to offer. I normally would favor the PS2 version mainly for the controller, but the difference is enough to have the XBOX version win me over.

Hmm, after reading this response I'm not sure how I should take it. Either you don't believe me or you just don't give a s*** about what I said. Either way sorry for wasting your time... and sorry for wasting mine.

On the PS2, there is slowdown when the offense is near its own end zone (the one it's going away from).

There is also slowdown in some snow sequences and the QB takes a deep drop for a long pass.

I haven't tried the Xbox version but in the past some people didn't like having to use the black and white buttons?

There are tons of leagues so you can get plenty of good games. Ultimately, that is the best insurance against cheese than anything like Fairplay.

Wilkie, you took what I said the wrong way. I was reacting to the fact that there was nobody but yourself that had played both versions with a response. Therefore, I was asking those that had played just the PS2 as I have tried the Xbox version. I do value your opinion a great deal, and just like to hear from others as well. I do believe you, and was just wondering how others felt as well. I'm sorry if my response offended you.

CK - I thought that there was just a minority that liked NCAA 2005. Is there a big difference on the PS2, or are you just playing with me? 8O

NCAA on the PS2 just plays smoother. It doesn't fix any of the gameplay issues (super Db's and LB's and too many drops).

My bad gr. Sorry, it's not excuse I'm just having a rough go of it lately. It must be that time of the month. My apologies.

I had both for the first few weeks, but ended up sticking with the xbox version for pretty much the same reasons Wilkie states above. For what's it's worth, I just jumped back into my franchise after about six weeks off and I am really enjoying playing it again--even more so than my first go around with it.

One more thing, it is more "bright and vivid" on the PS2, but if you are using component video inputs with the xbox, it is a very sweet looking game.
