Possibly shortly after midnight. It's 10:30 p.m. (EST) now, and I'm just starting to watch the Super Classico Argentinesoccer rivalry game between Boca Juniors and River Plate.
Take care,

Sorry, fellas, fell asleep early. Been playing Halo 2 too many late nights this week!
None tonight, either. Going to see relatives out of town. A two-night Halo 2 withdrawal -- pass me the methadone, please!
Out,
PK

That was a lot of fun last night. I guess the OS guys don't like my weird game modes- that was pretty funny when they all left at once, without even a 'goodbye!'
We are finding some of the bugs in the game. There is definitely something wrong with the 'even teams' in multi round games. It seems that often one guy gets stuck out of the rotation, or really it just won't rotate, after the first round in multi round games. That's a bummer, because I think the even teams feature is an outstanding one. I'm not sure it happens every time, but it happened quite a bit last night.
I am going to be messing around with game modes and variants for a while. Some may not work very well (some I may have set up just plain wrong, like in that first game of supposed 'retrieval' that was really just 'one flag CTF' with offense and defense; boy was I confused for the first half of that game!), and some may not work well on certain maps or with different size groups. But I am going to keep messing around, and over time we will get a much better sense of what works and what doesn't.
For example, I haven't even touched the limited spawn settings; I wonder if we did that single bomb game on a big map with zero spawns. I could turn 'toughness' on, or even 'overshield,' but having only one life would really change the dynamic. Maybe take the vehicles out of it, too. It would take a couple rounds I think for us to get used to that, but I think it might be pretty fun, defintiely different than the typical Halo game.
Anyway, I encourage others to mess around with making game variants, weapons settings, all that stuff. I don't want to be the only one. The hardest thing is coming up with a name! Seriously, it's so easy to set up and save game variants. and there are quite a few options you can't access once you are in the party lobby, you can only adjust them in the main menu settings. Surely at some point, we will come up with some stroke of genius that just works brilliantly.
Fro now though, it's hard to beat CTF on Coagulation. Neutral Bomb on Coag should be fun also, it would be the same as my 'retrieval' but probably closer to the real RS retireval, in that you'd have to take the bomb to the other team's base. I need to change the names around. . .

No the modes were fine, just someone else had started up an OS game, and invited us.Zeppo wrote:That was a lot of fun last night. I guess the OS guys don't like my weird game modes- that was pretty funny when they all left at once, without even a 'goodbye!'
Do you guys have a DSP clan yet? When will you be ready to take some beatings from OS again in this game?

Hey Zep,
This might seem like sacrilege, but I think it might be a good idea to turn vehicles off on some of the maps depending on the mode. Oftentimes, especially with smaller teams, it's too easy to lose half your team as they waste time playing warthog battles that aren't at all integral to the objective. It might be just easier to just turn them off, rather than bitching at each other LOL
This doesn't apply to all the maps or modes, as sometimes the vehicles are an important part of the strategy.
Just thinking out loud.

Yeah, I kind of hear you on that. But I think we'd be better off in the long run learning how to deal with it, if you know what I mean. Like, eventually I will learn what modes and what maps and what size groups all work best together. And taking away the vehicles entirely would be a bit of a drag, since, at least for my money, it's the vehicles that really set Halo apart. The warthog is an incredible thing in absolutely every way. So I can't really blame people for just messing with the warthog and forgetting the objective.RobVarak wrote:Hey Zep,

That's cool. I'm just messin' around. There were too many people online to fit in one game, so it actually worked out really well when y'all left.NYJets wrote:No the modes were fine, just someone else had started up an OS game, and invited us.Zeppo wrote:That was a lot of fun last night. We have a clan, it's 'Reclaimers DSP.' People should be accepting those invites and joining up

Anyway, GR2 arrives next week, so I know there will be quite a bit of that to be played, which will lessen the Halo2 load. I tell ya, I can only wish for as smooth and easy to deal with online functionality in GR2 as in Halo2. I guess I'm saying it will be tough to deal with any large-group online game after Halo2. And judging by the online interface of GR, arguably the worst XBL interface ever, there's little chance of GR2 being easy to deal with after Halo2. Still, I am highly anticipating that game, and I know I am not the only one around here who is. Tuesday nights are soon to be filled again, with GR Poker nights! I can't wait!
