I've done it before (Dreamcast launch :)) but I'll be getting mine on Tuesday via overnight shipping.

On a somewhat similar note...I just watched an incredible video walkthru of a Halo 2 MP session over at IGN. I'm in awe of what I saw. It was 10 minutes of gameplay on a map called Waterworks in assault game mode. Basically your team has to deliver a bomb to the enemy's base. The guy had warthogs, Banshees and Ghosts flanking him while delivering the bomb. The map was beautiful. Anxiety is reaching new heights :) I'm definatey a nerd :)

I might. I love getting suckered into the hype. It's fun. I mean, why not!?!?!

I did it for the Dreamcast launch, Gamecube launch. It was fun.

I might be able to pick it up earlier though with my "connections" in the gaming store industry.

I'm definitely going to be there. In fact I'll probably have the Halo soundtrack thumping on my car stereo when I pull into the parking lot. :D I wear my nerdiness like a badge of honor.

I'm a geek, not a nerd...Thank you very much.

I will most likely be in line tonight, because it is an event. It's fun to see people so geared up.

I haven't decided yet. I already have it paid off at my local EB. I might spin by around 11:30 and see if it's madness or not. If it's not I'll stick around so I'm in and out quicker than a virgin on prom night. If it is I'll probably go home, play one of the many solid games I've picked up over the past few weeks (Men of Valor, Battlefront, ESPN NBA, NBA Live, Outrun 2, Kingdom Under Fire, Killzone, GTA:SA) and pick it up on my way home from work tomorrow.

I might head over to a TRU or EB... just to see how much of an "event" this is in my area. I probably shouldn't or I'll be tired on Tuesday... but my inner geek might winout and I'll head over anyway, after my DSP NHL hockey game at 10pm.

My gameplan, precisely.

I just started a Featherlite modified season with NASCAR 2005, with half-distance races. Ran a 75-lapper last night at Red Ball to open my season, and it was insane.

Between that and NHL 2K5 with Grog's awesome slider settings, I'll have plenty to keep me busy until Halo 2 engulfs my Xbox whole tomorrow night. :)

Take care,
PK

I mentioned this in another thread, and I'm not sure how applicable it will be (I'm sure they have produced a boatload of this game)...

but does anyone not have a copy reserved and want one? I put a few bones towards it when trading in games for McRae, just in case I got caught up in the hype. But, I have not and am probably not picking it up.

PM me if you'd like me to pick up my copy and send it to you for the cost of game + whatever shipping you'd want.

To be honest, a part of me wants to boycott this game! Not only did they omit the feature I was looking forward to most (online Co-Op) but the video reviews really didn't do much for me. Now I know the game will be good, but will it really be that great???

For some reason all of this hype has begun to jade me a bit and make me almost not want to pick it up. The online portions really does not look to be much more than Unreal Tournement and the single player looks like Halo 1.5 more than a full blown new game. The graphics even look a bit old. Am I crazy or does anyone else agree? I will probably pick it up since it will be fun (again, I am NOT saying it's gonna suck, just that it does not look that amazing to me) and would like to get into some fun online games with the DSP crew, but at this point it really is not looking like it will thrill me too much.

We'll see...

If this game lives up to the hype, it will be the bastard offspring of Thomas Edison and Jonas Salk on the scale of world achievement for mankind.

That said, I'm still quite excited for it. I'm not a sci-fi guy at all, but Halo was one of the best videogames I've ever played for the complete package, so Halo 2 should be b*tchin' even if the online modes aren't as robust as we expect and the offline game is just Halo 1.5.

Take care,

The thing is, Halo 1.5 would still be a better game than 98% of the crap that outhere...

I still haven't decided whether or not I'm going to pick it up tomorrow. I'm definitely not standing in line at midnight on a game I'm still undecided about. My main concern is that I know I'm going to suck a** at online play. Too often it takes me too long to aim my damn weapon. I'm sure online "dorks" will pick me off with no problem. I'm just unsure how fun online will be for someone who's not great at these kind of shooting games.

Part of me wants to pick it up so I can haul my Xbox to Chicago this Thursday when we drive to visit the in-laws. I can't imagine not being able to sample the game until next week. Also, I've really started to enjoy NBA 2K5 more so than the first week I played it.

Does anyone really believe you won't be able to find a copy at Best Buy, Target, Wal-Mart, TRU, Circuit City tomorrow? I don't have it reserved, but I'm thinking I'd be able to locate a copy somewhere.

The real nerdy thing would be to get the keyboard and mouse adapter that is suppose to work with all shooter games.

Spooky, you're losing it, man. Get a brown paper bag and stop hyper-ventilating! Relax.

No co-op online is a bit of a bummer, but it's not much of a newsflash. That info has been out for a couple weeks at least. It's certainly disappointing, but to jump from 'disappointed' to 'boycott this game' is pretty extreme.

Also, as to 'Halo 1.5' I am going to reserve judgment. Maybe I am unusual in that I don't take it personally, or get angry at a game if it doesn't 'live up to the hype.' And I'm sure one could describe the final product any number of ways, I bet you could convince yourself no matter what it is that it is Halo 1.5. Frankly, I would be surprised if that turns out to be the case, but we'll see.

As to online, I think, Spooky, if you are expecting something other than Halo multiplayer onlne, like a GR game or something, you should stick to the GR games. This is going to be Halo multiplayer, online and with lots of new modes. Not Unreal, not Quake, not XIII or Wolfenstein or whatever. I think it's safe to say the reason so many are anticipating the game so highly is that we have played a little of Halo, played a little of Halo multiplayer, we know what to expect, and we expect to have a ton of fun with it.

Like a lot of others around here, I popped in the original Halo over the weekend, and indeed, it is remarkable what an incredibly good game it is. It is very polished, very, very fun. It's not perfect, there are flaws, but the core of it is insanely good. For my money one of the very best things about it is that it handles the console shooter problem very, very well, that is it doesn't ever make you feel that you wish you had a mouse and keyboard. Rather, the game is designed with a controller in mind, rather than being a port of a mouse and keyboard game. I could go on and on about what i like in the game, but whatever.

Fact is, you must clear your mind. Choose to get the game, or choose not to get the game. If you get it, play it, and if you enjoy it accept that you enjoy it. If you don't enjoy it, then get rid of it, but don't go telling everyone they're stupid or crazy if they enjoy it and you don't.

I'll pick it up...since I hardly played the 1st one at all. I just couldn't get into the single player mode. If all you guys are goin' to be mashing online...it'll be good to come in and scrap with everyone.

I certainly am not going to be lining up at midnight. No game is worth that. If you are doing it, you're a 'nerd' and there is nothing you can say to dispell that fact. There's nothing fundamentally wrong with being a nerd...I just find it funny that people try to say that they aren't when they are also the dudes lined up to see the Star Wars or the Lord of the Rings flicks too.

My question is by the time you purchase the game at midnight and get home, it's around 12:30. So, how long are people really going to play it at that time of the night? I imagine people are taking work off the following day or are going in to work extremely exhausted. Insanity!

Well, I'm taking tomorrow off so I'll probably play the campaign until about 3:00 am or so. Then I'll catch a few hours sleep and get up to finish the single player campaign. I'll then spend the evening with the family and then try to find some DSP guys for some Live play before going to bed tomorrow night. Like I said earlier "badge of honor." :D

Agreed. That's exactly what quashed any thoughts I had of getting this tonight. I get it, get home around 1 a.m. and then what? Play until 4 a.m. and then get up three hours later?

Uh, no.

There's no way I'm having a 30-minute session the first time I pull the cello off Halo 2, and that's exactly what would happen if I bought it tonight. I'll just wait until tomorrow and play it for three hours or so right out of the box tomorrow night after the Frau and kids go to bed.

Out,
