Not to mention that the Bard is on a quest for coin and cleavage! I'm going to pick it up tonight. I just hope it doesn't cut into my Fifa 2005 time.webdanzer wrote:Yes! It's a top-down action RPG like Baldur's Gate or Champions, with a supposedly killer sense of humor.
I'll be getting it along with DOA this weekend.

Picked this up today but only played like 1/2 hour, really like what I see so far and it's just dripping with humour. The graphics look very good to me and the way everything is set up is pretty good to me as well.
Walking into the first bar at beginning and seeing those drunks sing that song is funny as hell, especially when the Bard starts off kind of disgusted and then at the end he is so into it...funny sh1t. This is a game I have a feeling ill play all the way through. Love the magic system too.

I will be picking up Bard's as well. Gamespot gave it a so so review but I am not worried about that. Playing first Bard's was fun enough, and I hope this one will be just as fun. Game I am looking forward most to though, on any platform, is not Halo 2,KOTR2, or even Half Life 2. Game I am most looking forward to is Pirates . Can't wait to see the update...and will be nice to play a Sid Meyer game again.
Question about Bard's Tale though..do you have many choices in the game? Or are you stuck with a character that you just kind of plod along with?

I just finished playing for the last 3 hours and it's a great game so far. Sometimes it is insanely difficult, but it's not that tough all the time. As someone else said, the game is dripping with humor. The Bard has something funny to say about everything.
When he was told he had to rescue a princess in a tower, he said, "It's always in a tower, no one ever holds princesses at ground level anymore"
Another time when this bothersome chick was trying to get him to marry her, she said, "I will go home now and wait for you, I can't wait to see you again". Then he replied, "Therein lies the loophole".
The gameplay itself is pretty much like Baldurs Gate and Champions of Norrath except you have to summon creatures to fight with you, light your path, and heal you. You can switch between melee and ranged attacks with the black and white buttons and your tunes or summoning spells are tied to your right and left trigger. You can also give your creatures orders by pressing the D pad.
I think where people are having trouble with combat is when one of their summoned fighters dies and they have to call another one in the heat of battle. For the split second it takes your character to play the lute and call him, you cannot fight. It's no big deal to me and I've already gotten used to it. I just run out of the fray of battle and summon and then go back in. Only takes a couple of seconds.
I love these types of games and always finish them. This one will be no exception. It's a great game with great graphics and a ton of humor to boot. If you like these types of games, I'd highly recommend it.

I picked it up friday night and it's fantastic. It uses the same engine as the BG:DA series which was fantastic. If you are a fan of the BG:DA hack and slash type of game you will love The Bards Tale. Now with all that being said regardless of how good it is....it's taking a backseat to Fifa 2005 right now. I just can't get enough of Fifa. I'll play Bards tale here and there but probably won't really get into it until around the holidays.

All right, i'm going to just come out and say it, for me...The Bard's Tale is the best RPG out for the consoles and one of the rare ones i'm actually going to finish. Humour, a really fun and strategic magic system, great graphics and it all just comes together for me. I'm sure you can argue which one is the best but for me this game has been the cat's @ss. Love it.
Yea, I'm about to finish it myself. I wouldn't call it the greatest rpg game I've played, but it has been a lot of fun. I don't know how many times I've laughed out loud when the Bard said something funny.
I'm also really enjoying The Lord of the Rings The Third Age quite a bit. This rpg mixes footage from the movies and makes you believe that you are in a party not far behind the original group and there are some special appearances. The graphics are great and if you liked the Final Fantasy turn based combat system, then you will love this game.
So I'm trying to finish the BArd's Tale so I can focus more on The Third Age.

The Third Age is a full rpg with complete character customization and attributes. When you leve up you put points into certain attributes. When you get new equipment, it shows up on your character even down to belt buckles or arm bands.
The game is actually a lot more of an rpg than either the BArd's Tale or Fable. While I like both of those games, this one is definitely my favorite rpg of the year.
