I highly recommend "Bend it Like Beckham," which was released recently on DVD. I rented and watched it last night.

Very good movie with a nice story mixed with poignancy and humor, good characters and some excellent footie scenes. Oh, and there are plenty of nubile female soccer players with tight, tight bodies, too. Never shown in an exploitive way, but it´s hard for any male to miss.

"Beckham" is one of those rare "feel-good" movies that doesn´t come with an extra helping of molten cheese.

"Beckham" also is a GREAT flick to watch with a chick. My wife planned on watching a bit of it with me before turning in for the night. She ended up glued to the TV screen for the entire flick, with both of us bubbling about the movie afterward.

Enough of my Roger Ebert routine. Back to our regularly scheduled program ...

Girls playing soccer...no thanks. I can´t watch so-called professional girls play soccer let alone a bunch of actresses.
Your loss.

I don´t give seven shits about baseball -- doubt I´ll watch an inning of any of the postseason -- but I still loved "The Natural," "Field of Dreams" and "Major League."

Open your mind, enjoy the flick. It´s a story about a lot more than just soccer.

Wanted to see that movie in the theatre, but missed it. Will definately rent it.

Some movies coming out that I am interested in. Think I will go check out Jack Black´s new flick "School of Rock". I like Jack Black and the movie is getting good reviews. Also looking forward to "Kill Bill", and "Radio".

"Radio" is based on a local celebrity from right here in Anderson, S.C.

James Robert Kennedy, better known around here as "Radio" is a mentally disabled man, who happens to be the No. 1 fan of one of our high schools. He´s been featured in Sports Illustrated (the basis for the movie) though it´s generally thought of that Gary Smith plaigarized the story which ran in our paper several months before.

Needless to stay, people here are very excited about that one.

Yeah I just saw it as well. Very sweet. Cornball but in a good way. Then again I kinda like chick soccer.

Knightley has possibly the most outrageous midriff I´ve seen in Hollywood. Laura and Mary Ingalls could have done wash at the Little House on that chick´s stomach, yet she doesn´t have an ultra-defined six-pack like some chick bodybuilder.

Yeah, I didn´t miss Keira Knightley during that flick, although the story was very nice, too.

I´m really looking forward to Kill Bill and Underworld. I know Underworld is out now, so I´m going to try and check it out sometime this weekend. I´m a definite sucker for any type of Dracula based movies.

[ This message was edited by: Waddupcouzin on 04-10-2003 10:20 ]

I enjoyed Beckham well enough but it seems formulaic of how foreign films, especially featuring some ethnic flavor, have fared recently.

Billy Elliot was similar except it was about a Scottish kid aspiring to be a ballet dancer instead of a Sikh girl wanting to be a soccer player. They both fight against their culture to pursue this dream.

When I went to see Beckham, they had previews for Whale Rider, about a New Zealand girl wanting to take on this rite of passage reserved for boys in the tribe, and another movie about a Shanghai boy aspiring to be a violinist.

Most of these movies come from Fox Searchlight, which is owned by Rupert Murdoch´s News Corp. Not surprising that they´re becoming as manipulative as anything put out by Spielberg.
