The player models look better than FIFA...doh.

This is going to be the only way FIFA is fun. FIFA should stick to making FIFA street and just lend WE their franchise mode and licenses.

I really think this game is going to be fun as hell. Is it XBL?

The more I look at it, the more this game might be fun as hell, especially on XBL.

It will be the first EA soccer game that we won't have to pick apart to find numerous flaws that always are evident in every FIFA game. So it will be cathartic, liberating and possibly fun as hell.

I'm actually looking forward to it because it almost looks like they're staying true to the street roots of soccer, as that last shot of the Rio shantytown shows, aptly pointed out by Scoop.

Take care,
PK

Knowing EA, the physics may be more realistic than FIFA.

When I was in Italy, these kinds of places were all over the place. I got into a pickup game and was throughly run in circles.

Who are the guys suppose to be in the first shot? Ronaldo in the yellow?

The characters aren't cartoony like the NBA and NFL Street player models.

What if they tried trippy ball physics as Gamebreakers? Like being able to bend balls with an aftertouch several times?

That's the thing though. Those matches do not differ very much from actual football except for the obvious differences like the surface and number of players. I doubt we will be spared all the arcadey extras since it's EA Big. Of course even though football played in those settings in real life is not that different from the ordinary thing, EA should aim to make a good representation of the sport, since FIFA is not very realistic.

Well, when you get into a 3 v 3, 4 v 4 match, there aren't too many crosses and there is more of a emphasis on 1 v 1 moves to get free. however, the arcade stuff will be fun. 360s and stuff.

Ronaldo in the yellow and Beckham in the red, I think. The keeper could be David James with regular hair or Iker Casillas. Sure looks that way to me.

>>>Those matches do not differ very much from actual football except for the obvious differences like the surface and number of players.<<<

So, tactics and formations in street soccer are the same as an organized match played on a pitch? Lots of offsides traps, slide-tackling and diamond-shaped midfields in street soccer games played on asphalt? I'm sure a midfielder moves up or a striker moves back consciously to play in the hole in street soccer, too.

I highly doubt it.

Take care,
PK

This looks bad ass and indicates that the theme will be as we had hoped (at least from what I can tell).

I bet it will be fun as hell!

I did try a slide tackle once and let's just say that it was the last one I did. I forgot where I was for the moment.

I used to play in a 7-a-side league on Astroturf (next to Bolton Wanderers old ground at Burnden Park, as it happens). That did have proper formations and more positional play than a five a side kickabout..I played sweeper because I could never be arsed running, and we already had a goalhanger.

And squid...you haven't lived til you pull a slide tackle on wet Astroturf. When I worked for KPMG, we played a friendly against a client, full 11 a side on Astro on a wet October night. At one point in the second half, there were 4 separate fist fights going on, and I (playing in goals) was leaning against a post, trying to chat up one of the girls who worked for the client we were playing. No success, alas..she'd already seen me punch a corner into my own goal, and was therefore unimpressed by anything I might say.

Not played FIFA 2005, nor am I going to, but if they manage to pull off making a soccer game less like the beautiful game than FIFA 2004, I'll be very impressed.

So far it looks good. A 3on3 online playground soccer game would rule. Unfortunatly with the 'Street' name attached to it I'm afraid they are going to make it too over the top. Please, EA, rope it in a little on this one.

sf_z wrote:Dave: Didn't QPR (or somebody) play their real games on Astroturf in the late 80s? The ball physics must have been something like FIFA 99.
A number of teams moved to Astro in the mid-late 80's. QPR and Luton most notably, but Preston North End and Oldham as well. QPR and Luton had a lot of success with them, and Oldham (a small town NE of Manchester) reached a League Cup Final and FA Cup Semi-Final in the same year.

Players other than the teams above tended to hate them - these were the proper, rock hard Astros, and injuries, particularly knee injuries, were commonplace. These clubs liked them because it meant the pitches could be used for loads of other 'community' type stuff, without the wear problems of grass pitches.

After numerous complaints, the FA made everyone get rid of them by 92/93, I think it was. Advances in recent technology has made them a little more friendly, and I believe that one lower division Scottish team has permission to use the new version.

Jimmy:

That's just the point: EA can't do real footie, so this game might be pretty damn good because EA is making no attempt for this to be real footie.

Take hockey, for example. EA's NHL series has been pretty bad except for NHL 2004 and the year with Mario on the cover (2002, maybe?). But EA's Rock the Rink on the PSX still is the best arcade hockey game I've ever played, NHL Hitz included.

So there is hope, man!
