anyone driven a suburu wrx ?
this has been my dream car (under 50k) for a few years now
the new wrx sti's are f***in unreal, but they are more expensive than the stock wrx.. if i got one i think i'd save up to get it
has anyone in here driven one tho? if not then you owe it to yourself to find a dealership that has one and take it for a test drive, it's crazy especially if they let you experiment with it's off road capabilities like i got to do... they just gave me the keys and said have fun.. i took it out for about an hour and when i was done it needed gas and a car wash.. that's a good way to know you really used it to it's potential
pk i assume has test driven one, the way he seems to be in love with them, like i was
i remember someone at SR has one but can't remember who it was
i really want one of them tho, that or a mitsu evo viii would both work
either way, if you're looking at a car in the 30-40k range, you owe it to yourself to test drive a wrx sti trust me on this one mang

I've driven one. Amazing little car. I own an Audi S4 and love it, but I had a blast in the WRX that I drove. It's not as polished or refined as the Audi, and I like my Audi better, but the WRX feels quite visceral, and it's pretty lightweight to it has a good power/weight ratio.
I'll probably skip into a Subaru dealer sometime and test drive an STi.

Mobiggins owns one.
I haven't driven one. What's the point? I can't buy one at this point in my life, so why torture myself even more? Unless I buy one at some point, the first WRX I drive will be a rally car on a stage at a rally school!
But I do love them from afar. I love the rally car more than the street car, though. A lot of the street versions are being pimped out too much into "Fast and the Furious" mobiles while the rally car is a real race car.
Either way, one fine automobile. A great value for the money.

>>>I've driven one...my girl won't let me get one though.<<<
Geez, DB, didn't know you were engaged or married. Get your balls out of her purse!
The only reasons I don't get one are one, we're a one-income family for the next few years while momma stays at home with the kids; two, we're saving for college educations, home improvements, family vacations, etc.; and three, we're obsessed with debt-free living. The only debt we have is our mortgage, and we're saving like motherf*ckers to pay that off as early as possible. I HATE the idea of giving my money to a bank in the form of interest, just like I HATE the idea of paying income taxes and giving my money to the government.
I'll live like a monk now if it means I have no debt in later life, when we can have a great time traveling the world after the kids are done with college, etc. No way I'm relying on Social Security or any of that bullsh*t for my retirement.
Take care,
PK

I was just teasing you, as you've always been a guy who has snickered at those who have their balls in their wife's purse.dbdynsty25 wrote:Well at least quote my whole post...geeze, nothing like taking out the worst part. Now go get that WRX! I want to live vicariously through you, like I did Mobiggins when he had his WRX.

I own one and it owns the road when it comes to handling. When I first got it when they came out it also was one of the fastest things around in its price range, and while it can still hold its own, the market has become more saturated with high-powered low-priced cars.
I wish they did the car in leather (although the new SAAB-ARU WRX has a leather option) with some higher quality dash materials. Still, for cloth, it is a not bad.
The other downside is road vibration/cabin noise. You have a car that handles like a mad man on the track or off and it feels like it. For me, I love it, but on a long highway adventure my girlfriend will be complaining about the lack of comfort. Bah, what does she know - her JettaGLS, even with sports suspension, handles like a mushy noodle.
Anyway, the WRX is a great car but recently thought about tradding it in for something a little more luxirious. Only problem is there is NOTHING under $32K that comes close to the handling of the WRX - it is a pure bread so I'll be keeping mine until I can afford to move up a couple classes. Although I would love to trade with the guy who has an S4. I drove the loaded S4 with a V8 a month ago at the dealers and was soo in love...now if only I could come up with $48K for a car...LOL.

Do they make a WRX without the big spoiler? That's the only thing about some of those and the Evo that drives me crazy. I like spoilers on cars (both of our cars have small decklid spoiler, the factory ones), but not one that sticks a foot into the air.
Although, nothing cracks me up like a Neon with an F1-style rear wing and coffee can exhaust and stock everything else. WATCH OUT!

The stock WRX doesn't have a spoiler. I've seen a few around town here without the spoilers, including one in World Rally Blue that almost kills me every time I see it. This is exactly what I want to do with it:

Take care,

if its a normal neon than yes, its a joke
but the neon srt-4 don't f*** around.. if you get them with the mopar accessories they can run in the 12 second/ high 11 second 1/4 mile, which for a small 4banger is very very fast
i think part of the appeal of the wrx and the evo 8 is that they look remarkably similar to the "real" wrx cars, without the graphics and whatnot
thats one thing i love about wrc, the cars are the closest to real production cars, plus it's the best drivers on the most insane courses and the most challenging kind of racing there is, i believe
driving around a high banked oval at talladega may take balls to run flat out but it's not nearly as hard as it is to run flat out at the world rally of finland and on the snow in sweden
back to the point about neons tho, test drive an srt-4 and you wont feel the same way about them again i'm sure... but yeah most neons suck ass
i am huge into street racing, obviously you are not but if you ever wanna go sometime send me a message cuz im in the mpls area and i could show you some good spots that me and my people race at.. what kinda car do you roll tho ?

I had a silver WRX wagon. I sold it and got a Golf TDI.
The TDI is surprisingly peppy on the low gears due to crazy diesel torque.
I love the WRX, but I got tired of paying for premium fuel, and the fun, while it's great, does wear off after a while when you get used to the car. I basically ended up getting a new car with a new warranty for $4k. Not to mention 45mpg. I drove nearly 600 miles before gassing up. That seems worth the relatively negligible loss in acceleration and handling to me. I never took the WRX to extremes, nor did I care to. I saved that for other people's cars, not my daily driver. So in the balance, I think getting rid of it was a smart choice.
The Sti is killer, though. I've driven one.

Fletch--I know the SRT-4 Neon is a bad motherf*cker, can't beat it for the price. But I'm talking about a 1997 bone stock Neon brother.
WRC pilots are some of the craziest dudes on the planet. It is simply the greatest test of a drivers skills and bravado. Any surface, any time, anywhere.

one thing im curious about, and maybe pk knows, is what happens when a co-driver loses track of where they are on a run ?
he's reading the pace notes, but what happens if they hit a jump and he loses track of where they were ? i would assume that would happen a lot, but it doesn't seem to... also, how do they determine which turn is say an easy 4 right as opposed to a hard 3 ? thats just insane
