Between X-men Legends, SW Battlefront, and Dynasty Warriors 4, I have 3 awesome non-sports games as a change of pace.
As for Legends, I still play it a couple times a week. I like most of the game so far, but the skirmish & sparring modes have been a bit of a letdown. I was hoping for a more expansive "battle" mode where I could just line up a team on each side and have at it. Sparring does that for the single player, but the levels are too confined, and there aren't any real options to mix things up. Skirmish requires multiple players, and with no Live support this mode is useless to me.
Other than that, I am enjoying the story mode so far. I haven't made it very far, but I do like the ability to mix up teams. It will be interesting to see how much replayability this game has once I get cloer to the end and want to replay parts using different teams.

Game Crazy did have this game for $35, so I picked it up. Really glad I did at this point. It definitely passes the "losing track of time" test--I can't believe how long I played it last night.
I'm still hunting down the Brotherhood, so this game is going to take me a while. This is not my strongest genre at all.
Thanks for the impressions and input, there's nothing like beating the crap out of a bunch of people sometimes.

Weaver, I'm not sure if this is a technical description of the sub-genre that this game might fit into, but I would describe it as a "get the f out of my way before I kick your a**" RPG.
Honestly, I don't even feel like I'm playing an RPG--more like a story-driven action game.

A few years ago Marvel decided to create a new universe called the "Ultimate" universe. Same Marvel characters, but they bascially started the Marvel universe all over again, changing the characters in most cases to be more "modern".
X-Men Legends uses these versions of the characters instead of the classic characters. Now, the good part is that you can unlock the classic versions of these characters during the game, so the old Yellow & blue suit Wolverine will be there.
Hope that clears things up for you. BTW, the Ultimate line is pretty good. Most people seem to be satisfied with how the cahracters have been modified in this universe.

Weaver:
Think Baldur's Gate for the consoles, but with Xmen, and a team of four instead of just one, even in single player, and you'd begin to get the idea. You basically beat the living crap out of everything on the screen that isn't a teammate. There are combos, say that Wolverine power slashes a guy at the same time as Storm unleashes a bolt of lightning on the same guy, you get an "electric slash". Probably the coolest combo I've seen involves Collosus and Wolverine, where Collosus picks Wolvy up and hurls him headfirst, claws extended, into a crowd of thugs. Great stuff...

This is an excellent summary, but not quite accurate in that it implies that the Marvel Universe was started over and doesn't exist, when in fact it still does exist. The Ultimate universe and Marvel universe coincide but do not intersect. Also, I wouldn't say that the characters in the Ultimate Universe are more modern, just that their origins are. For example, instead of the Hulk being caught in a gamma bomb explosion (pretty silly and dated) he's a result of a serum gone wrong. Additionally, the updated origins are more or less a side effect of the creation of the Ultimate universe, and not the true reason that Marvel decided to go retcon crazy and create the Ultimate universe.matthewk wrote:Weaver -

"X-Men Legends 2 Announced
Activision announces that it will release more mutant mayhem.
October 21, 2004 - Exactly one month after the release of X-Men Legends, Activision has announced that a sequel is on the way. The title is being developed by Raven Software, the same company who worked on the original. This is good news for X-Men fans since X-Men Legends provided an intense four-mutant fighting experience on PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube. With strong reviews and sales from the original, more is definitely better in this case.
"We are thrilled with the critical and consumer response to X-Men Legends. Marvel and Activision are committed to ensuring that the X-Men Legends series will continue to be a top notch game franchise for years to come," said Ames Kirshen, director of video game development at Marvel.
The official title has not yet been announced nor has a release date."
There you have it!! Let the good times roll...one suggestion, though...LIVE PLAY!!!!!!
Oh, and Nova...two things...
1. I never go out without Logan and
2. It just dawned on me...I haven't spoken to you in a looooong time, Nova! Has it been since the SR days? What's happenin with you? Still on the "path"?

That is great news! I just knew in my gut that they had to make a sequel, I mean this game is off the charts!
Yeah, I remember you very well Teal from the old SR days (you are a spiritual brother of mine). As a matter of fact I found this page because of PK500. I followed him here because I have much respect for that cat! Anyway, I am still on the path and will never stray from it, although I may slip while on it(lol). What about you? I hope all is well with you.
I am still enjoying the game alot, me and my daugher play together, she plays either Storm, Rogue, or Jean Grey, and I will play just about anyone else on the team. Man, I can't wait for part 2.

Just snagged this game last night and it is quite cool. Glad to hear that they are going for an online version of it... hopefully they can pull it off well. Champions of Norrath was done pretty decently, and this game lends itself to be done in the same way.
I'm a fan of the game's pacing so far - its got a good butt-kicking to leveling up ratio. Your not consantly pausing after every brawl to see if the ring of jodu's fire spit has more hit points than the wraith of corn-nut breath. You do get to add abilities and attributes to build your characters, but only really need to get involved with their setup at level-up points or if a special item task is at hand. Its also refreshing that I'm not lugging around 1200 pounds of excess weapons and armor to sell at ye old shop of pointless gold.
