Well the story didn't advance that much in the third ep.

Just a lot of backstory about Kate. She can't be as bad as the marshall guy claims because she saved that Aussie guy who'd turned her in instead of escaping.

But what kind of crime did she commit that she'd try to hide out in the Australian wilderness? And that her mug shot would be posted in an Aussie post office in the middle of nowhere?

Sawyer messes up and the father and son bond over the retrieved retriever.

Definitely a holding pattern last night. Good work on the backstory with Kate, however, and the botched attempt on the marshal was a nice touch. I'm finding most of the characters to be pretty interesting.

Preview for next week made it seem like the bald guy would at least face what's out in the jungle. Not holding my breath for whether we'll see it.

One other thing. I'm getting almost a Stephen King "The Stand" feeling here, of the survivors dividing up into good vs. evil. Baldie's little bit about backgammon last week made me think of that.

I believe the bald guy is named Locke. So instead of talking about good and evil, he should be spouting about how man is born free?

There's a kind of zen about him, just making that whistle on his own, to call forth the mystic dog.

That cut through one of his eye makes for dramatic facial expressions to reflect what he sees.

Kate is google-eyed for Jack, tells him right away what they found with the transceiver while Saiyed wants to keep it a secret from the rest for their sake. She was going to volunteer what crime she committed. So how can this vulnerable, self-possessed chick be that horrible? Or at least that's what the writers want you to think.

I thought she was going to kill that old man because he tried to take advantage of her. But this show definitely doesn't have that kind of adult vibe. There are no unsympathetic characters. Even the macho Sawyer is more of a rake than a rogue and seems genuinely regretful that he botched the mercy-killing.

The episode name was Tabula Rasa...and without getting too much into theoretical spoilers, people have surmised that the connection might run throughout the secrets of the show.

When Kate was ready to tell Jack what she did and he tells her he doesn't want to know I ended up yelling at the tv "Screw you Jack, I want to know what she did!"

Yeah but if they let the cat out of the bag now, there wouldn't be as much material for all the episodes they planned.

I'm sure she'll be featured in more flashbacks.

Plus isn't she more interesting because of this secret past?

Based on that weird look at the end... he looked a bit angry or devious or something (to me anyway) I think maybe the dog thing was a setup. For whatever reason he wants to interfere with the father/son. He'll do that by telling the kid that HE was the one who found the dog, not the kid's Dad. Then kid will confront Dad and get really pissed at his Dad (who of course will tell him the truth) and then the kid will just want to hang around with his "friend" who tells him "secrets". It's a ploy to divide the Father/Son. Motivation? No idea... just guessing.

Hmm, interesting turn on Locke's back story.

The last couple of eps, they are not moving the main plot much at all. They are mostly showing the characters -- where they come from, what they are about.

Wow!, that episode was so great it almost surpassed the US soccer game tonight.

My wife is now officially hooked. The suit man was the kicker for her.

And that story on Locke, holy s*it. The they show him in the chair, holy super s%it.

Amazing amazing show so far.

I really enjoyed the Locke twist. If you work in that kind of office setting, you know there's always a guy like Locke.

This show gets trippier by the week. Great stuff. I really like how the characters are being developed instead of just constant plot propulsion, as WCO said.

Oh, and Evangeline Lilly is still smokin'. But so is the preggo Aussie chick. :)

That was an awesome twist -- just watched my tape from yesterday. Be interesting to see how this develops. The fat guy gets funnier each week.

Yeah, I finally got a chance to watch the episode I recorded on Wed. The stuff with Locke is pretty cool. Looks like he'll be around for a while. I am getting a little annoyed with the rustling bushes, etc. Don't get me wrong, I love the suspense but its wearing a little thin. Still, a nice, clever, suspenseful show. I just hope it doesn't turn into a bad M. Knight Shamylan movie ie. "The Village".

Well for the 3rd or 4th week, very little progression of the plot. All characterization.

Looks like they're going to ration the resolution of the mysteries and just tell a lot of back stories. I'm sure there will be some action scheduled around the sweeps weeks and the inevitable season finale cliffhanger.

I don't mind the character development at all. It's well done. But there's a certain cynical design in how the plot is mapped out around the realities of TV ratings.

True, WCO, but I'm enjoying the patience in getting to the bottom of the mystery, probably because the characters are so strong. The backstory with Jack and his father was very good, I like the way they are revealing key elements of each character's personality.

You know when the disaster epic flicks used to be popular, the plot was usually some backstory leading up to the disaster. But these were very minimal and flat renderings of the characters.

Using flashbacks to fill the backstory doesn't seem that much more innovative but it's a lot more effective. You understand why people behave the way they do and how they're going to behave in the future after seeing how they came to be on the plane.

I'm just glad some flaws were exposed in Jack's character and past. He just seemed too perfect and too pious through the early episodes. Glad there are some shadows in his past. I'm also glad that he admitted that he didn't try to save the drowning girl. St. Jack is growing horns.

This week's episode was trippier than hell. This show gets better and better every week, and it started with an extremely high level of quality.

Take care,
PK

I feel the same way. I can't remeber the last time I watch a show and being pissed off the episode was over and having to wait another week.

I read a spoiler in this weeks TV guide for next weeks episode.

Anyone want a bite?

I love this show. Best new show in a long time.

And on a side note, anyone notice Julie on Survivor. Holy Freakin Hotness. She is unbelievable.

Yeah, Locke is the most fascinating character in a show filled with interesting characters.

Just saw the last episode.

Ummm, what happened to the father's body? Was he allowed just to put the coffin on the plane without the body or did it mysteriously disappear? Was that the whole other part of the plane they were looking for or just another piece where the cargo was being held? Why didn't he mention everything he found?

I don't think Jack did much of anything wrong in his past that wasn't his arsehole father's fault. His mother seemed like a b*tch too. I don't think you can say him bringing back the drowning guy first was en evil act, perhaps a bad judgement call. But it definitely had to do with his past experiences and his relationship with his father which really screwed him up.

Finally watched the episode from this past wed....man, this show has got me.
Someone said it best above that you get pissed when the show ends...you want more. I can't wait to see how things develop. I have my own theories on what is happening, but I'm still not sure 8)

The frustrating part of the show is in the way it's constructed. We were left with some questions about all the characters after each episode but it may be until next season until we find answers to these questions since each week they focus on a different person.
