All I can do is shake my head at this story ...

This story is almost beyond belief. Sad thing is in the U.S., somehow someone would kiss this moron´s ass in the name of political correctness and capitulate to him:

>>>
WINNIPEG (CP) ‹ A Sikh man says his rights are being violated because
the
Viking International Raceway insists that he wear a helmet while racing
on
the track.
³I am a Sikh and I wear a turban at all times,² said Grip Singh, 28,
who
wants to test the abilities of his ¹93 Camaro on Viking¹s quarter-mile
strip
in Gimli, Man.
But track owner Kevin Kanski said it¹s because Singh is such a fast
racer
that he must wear a helmet.
He said the National Hot Rod Association rules state that if a driver
does
the quarter-mile in 13.99 seconds or less, he must wear a helmet.
³If he was a slower driver, he wouldn¹t need one,² Kanski said.
The Gimli track encourages everyday drivers to test their abilities.
Singh said he took his Camaro to the Gimli track for the first time
Aug.
3. He said track officials said nothing for the first two races, in
which he
posted times of 13.4 seconds and 13.1 seconds.
But after the second race, a track official said he couldn¹t race any
longer unless he put on a helmet.
Singh said wearing a helmet would violate his religious beliefs,
adding
accidents are rare in drag racing.
Kanski admits that accidents are rare at the track, but if qualified
drivers don¹t wear a helmet, he¹ll be stripped of his accreditation and
lose
his insurance.
Singh said he believes that human rights legislation exempts Sikhs
from
wearing headgear other than their turbans. He has contacted the
Manitoba
Human Rights Commission to press his case against the Gimli track.
<<<

Take care,

PK,I am sick of this type of crap, dude needs to put a helmet on, then wrap his turban around it and shut the F*** up. I get fed up with these type of stories, rules are rules,if you want to race follow the F*****G rules!!
Your right though,in the US someone would bend over backwards to help this As*****,they would say rights were being violated or something of that nature, turns my stomach,Peace.

[ This message was edited by: JackDog on 04-09-2002 02:54 ]
