The fact that ANYONE survived in a crash of a plane that lost its tail at 40,000 feet is ridiculous. And the fact that the corpses in the plane and on the beach were intact also is silly. And there was a VERY fat dude who survived, the guy that helped the pregnant chick.

But all things considered, "Lost" was still compelling as hell.

Take care,
PK
I wasn't expecting realism...I just thought it was funny that only good looking people survived. I know it's TV, but it's still funny.

So apparently a fat guy made it? Did he eventually die somewhere during the first show or will he make it? I am guessing all the women were hot. Like I said, I didn't watch it. But, maybe I'll catch the next episode.

So, what caused the plane to get ripped apart? And, do planes fly 40,000 ft in the air?
The fat guys is still alive. But they will have to kill him off, unless he is a dedicated actor who will lose a ton of wieght when they start losing it due to malnutrition :)

As to what caused the plane crash, we don't know yet. The first episode was excellent, in that it ididn't take the original pilot premise and try to introduce you to every charcter. We caught bits and pieces of various people who made me go wtf was he / she doing, or wtf is their deal. That was the best part of the show. For example:

When they do a plane flashback, you see some guy run by torward the cockpit, with 2 stewardes chasing him. Their is an Asian couple, and the female is either a prisoner or a slvae to the male and they are being really weird. There are a few other people who are acting fuuny as well, it is just a really compelling charcter driven pilot, then throw in the mystery of the island creature and it gets better.

I guess the ugly out of shape people had no chance. I'm going to bet that the large black woman that "Charlie" was talking to in the commercial didn't make it.

And what caused that giant sized hole to be ripped into the plane? Are they supposed to be on some uncharted island? Where were they headed originally?
Those would be incorrect assumptions. There are a whole diverse ammount of survivors.
Granted, this was only based on the promos that I saw. And I guess they didn't go out of their way to highlight the non pretty people. But am I right about the large black woman? ;)

So the plane just gets ripped apart out of nowhere? Do they say where they were originally headed?

Not really, but it seems most of the people on board were English-speaking LOL. But they said they were trying to make an emergency landing in Fiji but got off course. Maybe New Zealand or Australia?

Of course you have to also buy into the premise that there are still uncharted islands in the world (in which case it wouldn't be too long before helicopters found them even without a good idea of where to look), which is not true, or believe that this island has some sort of magical cloaking powers. But even if the search parties were looking for them in a totally different area because they went of course, it wouldn't take long to find them in this day and age.

Well the pilot was only alive for like 5 minutes. But he said they lost their radio about 2 or 3 hours into the flight. So they turned around to try and land in Fiji, but at the time of the crash were 1000 miles off course. How losing a radio causes that many problems I have no idea.

But if you like to nit pick these type of facts then I would avoid this show :)

Oh yeah, the Black women is alive "Charlie" gave her mouth to mouth (the guy from party of five, I think his charcters name is Jack)

THAT'S who that is! I just could not place it, it was buggin me the whole time.

I enjoyed the pilot, but am a little wary. They sort of '24'ed it a bit, with the cliff-hanging, the total and complete lack of any resolution by the end of the hour, and next to zero info about what the show is going to be about (outside of establishing a budding romance between the 2 main char's). It appears to be the kind of show where if you miss a week, you are out of the loop for a while. And it's almost about 'how far can we carry suspense while revealing little to no information whatsoever.' Not sure if that translates into compelling TV over a longer term. We'll see.

I was certainly digging the production value. Major set-pieces, with the wing falling and the massive pyro, the front half of the fuselage up in the tree, and so on, not to mention the exotic locales, relatively large cast, rain etc. etc.

Undoubtedly, it is entirely ridiculous. But that doesn't mean it can't be a good show! The question becomes, how long do they string us out on revealing wtf is going on, and when they do reveal it, will it kill the show, or make it start to get REALLY interesting. We'll see. So far, it's all setup and majorly high-budget production value. If that's all it ends up being, I can't see it holding a big audience for too long. I'm usually wrong about this stuff, though. Production value is worth it's weight in gold.

Still, I enjoyed it and am close to being hooked. I wil say I enjoyed Alias for the 2nd half of the 1st season, when I started to watch it. But by the middle of season 2 and throughout season 3 everything good about the show had been resolved, and all the silly garbage became the main plot. Not good.

What is up with the dog that is shown checking out the survivors at different times off in the distance?

I liked the pilot episode and will be watching it regularly.

Is it just me, or does anyone else see a touch of irony that a group of guys who, as a general whole, love sci fi and Star Wars is debating the realism of this show?

:)

No, Vader is referring to the actual golden-haired canine dog -- not sure of the breed -- that pops up from time to time checking on the survivors.

I wondered about that mutt, too.

Well, one of the best new television events to come along in a while. Notice I didn't say series, because I still wonder how many episodes they have complete. Going by the latest tv ads, I'm beginning to think it's more like an extended mini series. USA did something similar with the sci-fi The 4400, promoting it as a regular series but then only showing like 6 episodes.

The guy who plays backgammon alone is the best character and the key to everything I think.

It doesn't seem the security was very good for this plane. Not counting the gun of the US marshall, so far, illegal drugs are on board, a former member of the Iraqi Republican Guard, and a bunch of knives.

I would guess the island was once used as some mad scientist's lab to genetically construct all sorts of animals, and everything went to hell. Which would be too much like Jurassic Park so I hope there is more to it.

The Polar Bear raises some more realism questions as a normal one couldn't survive that long in the tropics, but if it was genetically engineered, maybe it could.

It will make for some more good episodes if they find a secret science complex, but again, this would be too much like Jurassic Park.

Anyway, people are downloading bit torrents of the show like crazy, so it must be catching on.

Why are they downloading this show?

It's available on "free" TV!

Good suspense. But yeah they're getting further and further away from plausibility.

The hot tootsie was in the custody of a federal marshall? (BTW, she does look good in bra and panties, like she worked with a personal trainer -- not an ounce of fat)

And a distress signal repeating for 16 years from some French survivor?

It's good eye candy at least, in high def.

Well, you can't watch everything at once and if you don't have TIVO and digital cable/satellite, the downloaded episodes can be good quality.

I thought it was another great episode, I'm not expecting plausable anymore, it is promoted as a SCi-fi show. Also in an article I read each episode will represent 1 or 2 days time. I would say that gives them plenty of legs.

For those that missed it ABC is airing episode 1 & 2 on Saturday night at 8pm EST. I suggest setting the Tivo. This is a really good charcter driven show, best I have seen in a while.

I am fished in for the season. Totally awesome show, and while I know there's a possibility it could get derailed by implausibility, for now I'm sucked in 100%. I haven't had this much week-to-week anticipation for a show since the second season of 24.

Anybody happen to tape the first two episodes? I would be glad to pay someone for shipping me the tape. My wife forgot to tape the shows on Saturday night.

Thanks,

Different kind of show, of course, but I haven't been this sucked in by a network TV drama since the first season of "The West Wing." In fact, I think this is the first network TV drama I've watched since "The West Wing!"

"Lost" is an excellent show. But ABC isn't hitting 1.000 with its two critically acclaimed dramas from this season, in my eyes. I recorded "Desperate Housewives" last night and thought it sucked other than seeing Teri Hatcher and Nicolette Sheridan romp around as two of the hottest MILF's on the planet.

I expected a quirky, witty, well-written show. Instead, I got gimmicky and dull. Very disappointing.

Hell, at least I got one good new show this fall in "Lost."

That woman you are all raving about ( main female character ) is really quite pretty. However, I think she's a bit too skinny for my tastes. I can tell she's in great shape though. Her face is absolutely gorgeous too.

I like the show, but I don't find it as compelling as some others here. It is a little bit predictable (apart from some of the sci-fi elements.) People were wondering about the dog, but I saw through that as soon as the dog showed up the first time.

I'll continue to watch the show though, using DVR.

Boston Legal was pretty good. James Spader was made for his role. Much more like Ally McBeal now than how the Practice started out. I hated Ally McBeal, but for some reason I don't hate this show.

Desperate Housewives was okay. Oh and if you see it in High Def, you would not think Hatcher and Sheridan are so great to look at. They're in good shape but father time has not been kind to their faces. Felicity Huffman is also looking ragged too. Some people on TWoP are making cruel remarks about Sheridan's bad plastic surgery.

The hot one is that Spanish chick who's doing her gardener.

That chick in Lost is hot but the interesting twist may be that she's homicidal. The previews for the upcoming episode this Wed. suggest she may kill the Federal marshall who was taking her to prison when the plane crashed. Sorry if this was a spoiler but these eps. have aired twice already.

I didn't bother watching Boston Legal even though it promised nudity (had the disclaimer like NYPD Blue) because anything with Shatner is going to be campy.

The way those previews are shown, I can't believe that that is anything other than a misdirect.

Call me crazy, but I wasn't looking at much above each of their respective necks.

Both still have smokin' bodies.

SPOILER.

Also, there was a conversation between her and the Federal Agent on the plane about "her story"... perhaps hinting that she's not really guilty of everything or there were some extenuating circumstances. She may not be a bad person after all. She certainly did not know how to "take apart the gun" when she needed to... which adds a little weight to the argument that she's not violent (at least not with guns.)

But how much of that was a front, trying to further hide her criminal past from the rest of the survivors on the island?

One of the many possible plot twists that makes this a really fun show.
