Well even after the first half you still have no clue just how good OU's defense is. Only gave up 3 points but Tech seemed to have the ball the whole time. If OU had more time on offense I would hate to see how many yards Peterson could rack up.

West Virgina gettting clobbered by Va Tech

Florida smacking Arkansas

and Rutgers taking the lead over the Cuse in the Carrier Dome?

back to the 2nd half...

I told you Rutgers was improved but then again, a high school team could score against Syracuse.

BC, a team that actually has a chance at the big east, especially with WV losing, is leading Umass 23-7.

We're (FSU) playing fairly well against the Tarheels. Sexton looks good and I really hope they consider leaving him in there even after Rix is ready to play again. The fact that Rix is a 6th year senior is why I'm so outdone with the way he performs.

Um as mentioned by someone last week Rutgers got beat by a DIV 1-AA school at home (NEW HAMPSHIRE). Improved as compared to what? Syracuse pulled it out in the 4th.

36 of 55 369 yards and only getting 13 points. Just glad we do not have to face that offense again. OU did not show alot in this game on offense. Run Run and pass when needed. Should be an interesting game next week.

Improved compared to the past several seasons, where they have been truly awful. At least Syracuse usually has an offense. Someone on ESPN was talking about how they are on the way up, so I'm not the only one.

I'm glad that someone is exposing ND's defense. Boston College will crush them in a few weeks.

If BC ends up winning the Big East on their way out the door, it will be the biggest slap in the face to the conference. WVU is the only team in the BE than can stop BC at this point.

A very Un-Buckeye like performance in the OT loss to Northwestern. I think most sane Buckeye fans knew we were nowhere near the #6 team in the country; OSU is the youngest team in the entire conference. It was just a matter of time before we got bit like this. (I didn't think it would be against NW though) But OSU did the things that they usually don't do late in the game:

Two times in the red zone in the 4th quarter and get 3 points, thanks to bad execution and horrid playcalling.

Holmes drops a crucial pass on 2nd and 7 in OT that would have given OSU first and goal and also drops a pass laate in regulation that would have given Nugent a chance at a 45 yarder to win it. We usually make those plays when the game is on the line.

Nugent misses a 40 YD FG in OT, which is usually automatic.

And Northwestern racks up like 450 yards of offense. If there was ever a game when you could really tell that one team wanted it more, it was tonight. Northwestern played superhard.

Major reality checks today for OSU, Tenn, and LSU.

That list is short a few teams sweetheart. Sorry but is it just me or does Lee Corso say that just a little to often?

West Virgina and FRESNO ST need to be mentioned also. Fresno St... The team that those jackholes Trev Albert and Mark May considered to be the best "BCS Buster" got beat by Louisiana Tech. Of course Trev Alberts thinks that all Mid Majors are worthless and would be an average team in a real conference. Sorry Squid just repeating what he said, don't shoot the messenger. I am still rooting for Boise St to go undefeated.

Only thing better would be seeing Tennesee, Florida, and Auburn getting killed on the same day. :)

It's shaping up that Auburn vs. Georgia on Nov. 13 could be a pretty major game. Well if we can finally beat Florida for once.

Don't look now Brent, but Utah is #11 in both polls and its only Oct. 3! WVU went from 7 to #18, that has to hurt.

AAAAAMMMEN!!!! That was a major league butt kicking by my Tigers last night. I have to say I was more than pleasantly surprised. When Campbell gets enough time in the pocket...watch out. If he has to scramble...we're screwed. It's funny- Campbell plays more like a white boy than I ever did... But he was on last night. As was the D. Holy cow...

The 'Dogs put it on the Bayou boys last night, didn't they? AU-GA will be one for the books, I think...hope the dogs get tiger bit... :)

And they have one of ther easiest schedules in the nation, not to mention their toughest games at home. I would still be wary of San Diego St on the road and the final game against BYU at home as it is their big rivalry game.

It helps when the refs aren't cheating for UT. Does'nt matter that was an asswhooping of major proportions. I'm glad that UT have finally been exposed. :P

1. Syracuse sucks. Pasqualoni must be fired after this season. A very sloppy yet entertaining football game Saturday at the Dome, but struggling to catch and beat Rutgers? Rutgers? Syracuse may not win again until November. The next three games -- Fla. St., Connecticut and W.Va -- are guaranteed losses. But the more I see him run, the more I think Walter Reyes could stick on an NFL roster next fall as a backup running back. Strong, great instincts, not fast but runs through the hole with power.

2. Mike Hart ran for a quiet 79 yards on 20 carries at Indiana. Still, the true frosh appears to have the Michigan tailback job. When a 79-yard day is your lowest in three near-starts, you may be something special.

3. I stand by my prediction that Boston College will end up being the best team in the Big East. West Virginia was less than impressive in its loss at Va. Tech. despite the second-half rally.

4. Notre Dame sucks, and I shed no tears. The Irish, as usual, are terribly overrated by sportswriters that inhale the shamrock c*ck fall after fall after fall. When does Willingham's head hang from a noose?

Take care,
PK

Hey PK,

What do you think will be done if Syracuse goes 6-5 (beating UConn, Temple, Pitt ) finishing 4-2 in the conference and goes to a bowl. Don't get me wrong, I think a change needs to be made, but the problem is Pasqualoni is one of the few good guys in college football, it's very hard to root against him.

Rick:

You're absolutely right: That would be quite a dilemma for Cheerful Jake. Pasqualoni is a very, very good guy who runs a squeaky-clean program. His overall record still is well above .500 despite the recent lean years.

Crouthamel also has shown a distinct aversion to firing any of his coaches. I don't know if he's fired anyone during his 20-plus-year tenure. Marianna Freeman may have been pushed two years ago as the women's basketball coach so it didn't look like Jake was firing an African-American woman, and Jake also showed up to that press conference and actually cried in one of the greatest acting performances I've ever seen. Remember that?

I think economics and recruiting will dictate Pasqualoni's future this winter more than wins and losses. If attendance continues to drop at the Dome and more season tickets are canceled, and if SU continues to be embarrassed against national opponents (Purdue in the opener and almost certainly Florida State this Saturday) and get hurt in recruiting because of it, then Jake will have to fire Coach P.

It's getting pretty dismal on the Hill. Only about 25,000-30,000 people are going to games in a 50,000-seat stadium, and you hear about SU losing recruits to Rutgers and Connecticut. Pasqualoni used to own New Jersey and Connecticut when it came to getting his share of top guys out of there. No more.

What do you think?

Take care,
PK

What I heard is the reason Jake didn't fire Paul last year, was because they didn't know who the new chancellor was going to be. There was/is a good chance this will be Jake's last year, so why should he make a change if he may be going out the door as well.

If they do fire Paul, who can they get to come in? UConn did a very smart thing by locking up Edsall for the long term. They are not going to get a Bowden or Spurrier. It will have to be some young assistant .

Oh well, the basketball opener is only 38 days away!

Rick:

Coach P can stay forever if Jake quits. That will be the ultimate "ding-dong, the dick is dead" moment on the Hill when Jake retires.

Has there been a more reviled person on the Syracuse sports scene in the last 25 years than Jake Crouthamel? I think you could take every other villain here in college and minor-league pro sports, and they wouldn't combine to generate the kind of disgust people have for Jake.

I can't see Chancellor Cantor having much of a role in P's retention or firing. She's too busy trying to save "the soul of Syracuse" and with all of her other fruity academic causes. :)
