Just consider it a 20 dollar graphical upgrade. I don't think the game is as good as ID, but it's a good roster and atmosphere upgrade at least.wabash97 wrote:Well, as long as something's there, I'll give it a try.

Anybody out there prefer Live? If so, why? Sorry to post here, but I wanted to hear from people who have played NBA2K5 for sure. I have yet to play either. Thanks guys.

As of now Live for me.Both play good, but myself and the cpu are barely going to the line in espn and that is with all fouls maxed out.I am loving all star weekend in live too.grtwhtsk wrote:Anybody out there prefer Live? Live is a definite improvement from last year.Pro hop effectiveness is definitely toned down. You really have to work to get a open shot. The ai will nab offensive rebounds this year and the offenisive rebound slider works.
Both are good, but the lack of fouls in ESPN are annoying me.
Marino, sorry I had to turn down your invite last night. I have been staying up WAY too long at night and needed to go to bed earlier. I look forward to playing though.marino wrote:As of now Live for me.Both play good, but myself and the cpu are barely going to the line in espn and that is with all fouls maxed out.I am loving all star weekend in live too.grtwhtsk wrote:Anybody out there prefer Live? I am split right down the middle. Live is my favorite so far, but my teammate AI in transition is KILLING it for me. I actually watched one of my teammates last night run backwards from half court to the three point line while I ran past him...AAAAH. Of course, the unrealistic foul totals in ESPN bothers me just as much.

I know it is nitpicking, but since you brought up price I need to point out that Live is only $40 this year.scottdracula wrote:got 2k5 and enjoying the hell out of it. i like live, but i think espn gets the nod thanks to better gameplay and price. 19 bucks lets me sleep a lot better than 50 and for my money the game seems to be just as good if not better.
There is no doubt ESPN is a lot better. I can't wait to spend some more time with the game. Are you getting realistic foul totals with ESPN? I'm just not getting to the line enough. Live really handles fouls well as I am getting very realistic foul totals and I still have PLENTY of room left on the foul sliders. In fact, I had to turn down the shooting fouls from 50 to 40 because I had too many. This adds so much more strategy to the game.
I spent most of my time last night with Live and had a great time after some slider tweaks. Someone suggested at OS that you hit the black button twice on the fast break get guys to cut to the basket and for some very strange reason that seems to work. Either that or I am just getting used to it.
What makes ESPN "a lot better?" It seems from reading your last paragraph that Live is getting more of your playing time?Leebo33 wrote: There is no doubt ESPN is a lot better. Anyone else out there playing Live over ESPN, or both?
Ooops. I meant a lot better than last year. I prefer Live, but also am enjoying ESPN.grtwhtsk wrote:What makes ESPN "a lot better?" Picked up ESPN last night and while it's a lot better than last year's effort I can't say that I'm totally enjoying it right now. I'm going to give it some more time but I still feel like I'm not in control of the action as much as I would like. And there's still a lack of responsiveness in the controls. It's better this year and it just may take some getting used to but it looks like I may have to check out Live after all.
On the plus side my one online game was smooth as silk.

I have the same thoughts on the game. While this years version is WAY better than last years, the controls are just too clunky for me, not very responsive. I changed to a ALternate B controls and at least now I don't double team unless I really want to. Still, just feels more like a chore to control your players... Oh well, gonna pick up Live 2005 pretty soon, looks like I'll be trading in ESPN for some credit.
Dskrizzy, where you at?

Have any of you guys found a way around the lack of CPU timeouts in franchise mode? I don't have the game yet, so I'm just going by reports that I read from OS.
It seems that, by default, both Human and CPU timeouts are set to manual in all franchise games. This forces the user to switch the controller to the other side and change CPU timeouts to AUTO. The only problem is, in franchise mode, apparently you can't switch the controller to the other team at any time. So, the CPU never calls timeouts to stop momentum, make substitutions or to inbound from half-court late in games. Basically, you can play an 82-game season without a single CPU timeout.
To me, this is a very big problem as there are sure to be at least 10-15 games per season (maybe more) where the CPU will need to use timeouts to be competitive.
Has anyone noticed this yet and have you found a way around it?

I seem to recall the CPU calling two timeouts against me in the last min. of a game I won last night. So it looks as though those reports are untrue. Apparently I'm some kind of messiah if I'm the only one getting them.jujuhound76 wrote:It seems that, by default, both Human and CPU timeouts are set to manual in all franchise games.

sigh
i finally got my copy of ESPN and even though i'm only about 3 hours into it, it's a hell of a game. improvements indeed. i'm really happy with the way this plays. i feel really comfortable with the movement - just smooth. i might rent EA's, but i'm just totally satisfied with NBA 2k5.
1 more thing
the price doesn't too bad either.
I'm getting TO's by the cpu as well. I've also found out through a friend a way around the cpu trading problem.................turn salary cap to "off" and trade overide to "on" and you can overide any trade the cpu makes.dbdynsty25 wrote:I seem to recall the CPU calling two timeouts against me in the last min. of a game I won last night.
