Still more Sevendust but this time I have more.

Sevendust - Southside Double Wide (Acoustic set) - Wow, their music translates very well acoustically. The guitar work stands out even more in acoustic. They do a nice version of "Angel's Son" and a tribute to Johnny Cash with "Hurt".

Refused - The EP Compilation - Often overlooked punk(ish) band. Lots of great guitar riffs, an occasional dollup of electonica, and a punk vibe. They do a cover of "Voodoo People" by Prodigy and the opening track "New Noise" is sheer genius.

the Prodigy - Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned - It's been 7 years since Fat of the Land came out and that's far too long for no new Prodigy. The opening track "Spitfire" is one of the best songs Prodigy has ever done and the rest of the album is great as well.

Megadeth - The System Has Failed - Their best work since Rust In Peace.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

sf -

Thanks for the "Smile" impressions. In my failure of a trip to the mall, I was hoping to pick that up with a Circuit City along with McRae 2005 at EB...I walked back empty handed.

As you could guess from my earlier post, I'm a big Beach Boys fan and have been listening to Pet Sounds a lot lately in anticipation of the release of Wilson's most anticipated album for 30-some years. I, too was concerned about him reviving this project without the voices Mike Love, Al Jardine, and (mostly) Carl...but in the end, this was Brian and no one else's project. I'm very happy to hear the reviews and wonder if the disc will receive any consideration for awards.

Spiritualized. Since I'm probably too old for drugs now, I have to live vicariously through music.

Franz Ferdinand.

Good stuff, but I have a feeling in a year no one will have heard of them...

k-os - "Joyful Rebellion".

I haven't been listening to hip-hop that much for the last month or so but this album contains the type of music that makes you somewhat proud to be a hip-hop fan. A lot of rock/jazz influences on this CD. If you want to try a single song, I would suggest "Crabbuckit" which is easily found on any file swapping site, and can also be seen on MuchMusic, MTV, etc. . This song is super catchy and can make you shake your ass in an instant, but in a good way.

k-os also doesn't swear in any of his music, which is also kind of refreshing and the music isn't really about urban struggles and bragging either, so it's easily accessible.

And, the guy's also Canadian.

I do have to check out the new Talib Kweli CD too, as I've heard that it's excellent as well.

Other than that I've been listening to Broken Social Scene, the Shins, the Notwist, and Death Cab for Cutie primarily.

Air - Talkie Walkie.

A CD that you can put on and completely relax to. It's tough to explain, and not all songs are instrumental, but it's definitely a cool CD.

And their last work ever, I'm afraid. Mustaine is callin' it quits after this one... :(

Anyone else pickup R.E.M.'s new one? I didn't think much of it after two listens, but now it is *really* growing on me. It reminds me of Automatic for the People.

Leebo, is the new R.E.M. still in your rotation? I didn't even realize that it was out until you posted, and I ran out and bought it right away. I have way too much new music right now, so I've only listened to it a few times, but I can't get into it yet. I'll keep trying, because the effort is almost always worth it with them.

I "obtained" R.E.M.'s new record and listened to it a few times. Don't like it at all. It sounds like the easy-listening version of "Automatic for the People."

That record was passionate even though its theme was sorrow and loss. This record just seems like a bunch of strummy tunes you'd hear in an elevator. There's hardly any tempo change on any of the songs. Every song sounds somewhat similar, something I thought I'd never say about R.E.M. It's basically a Michael Stipe solo album, and I don't like it one bit.

I never thought the loss of Bill Berry would cause R.E.M. to lose the plot, but I'm afraid it has.

Take care,
PK

I'm all over The Arcade Fire's CD, "Funeral". I also can't wait to see them live next month in a small intimate setting to the sweet tune of $8US. Honestly, you guys have got to listen to their music.

http://www.mergerecords.com/band.php?me ... band_id=98

There's a link to three full versions of their songs in great quality. My favourite out of the three would probably be "Neighborhood #2 (Laika)" but all three of them are fantastic. You owe it to yourself to give these guys a chance.

Here's a link if you want to read some of the reviews on the CD and understand a bit more what they're all about:

http://www.metacritic.com/music/artists ... e/funeral/

I downloaded the CD off of KaZaa but I'll be purchasing it this weekend.

I must thank Sudz for suggesting them to the forum, because they are friggin' amazing.

The first Sigur Ros disc, Von, gets a North American release on Tuesday, October 26, so that'll be cool to listen to as well.

Other stuff (full albums) I've been listening to:
The Shins "Chutes Too Narrow";
The Notwist "Neon Golden";
and for some reason I've been listening to The Strokes "Room On Fire" again lately, weird.

I've got that one but haven't given it a thoroughly listening. I've heard it's pretty "rocking". The new Raphael Saddiq (sp?), "Ray Ray", is supposed to be really good as well.

Since I am not working for a living anymore I go out and check out the local talent. Columbus has some really good bands that play their own music.

7one7(Rock)
Hootie McBoob(Blues,Rock)
Driving Wheel (Blues)
Rockhouse(Rock..duh)
Moving to Boise ( Jazz,Blues)

Man nothing is better than drinking a few cold ones with friends and listening to original music. Anyhow that's what got my ears these days.

I'm digging Beck and John Lennon these days. I can't get Lennon's dig at McCartney out of my head. Imagine really is a phenomenal album.

Totally with you Leebo...I've been listening to some of my bootlegged concerts in anticipation of their tour next year. They absolutely rock live.

Doc
Maddoc,

I just heard "Vertigo." I really like it. I am going to try to hold off and just wait for album rather than downloading early. Of course, I will buy regardless.

Leebo
Damn. I just heard "City of Blinding Lights" and "All Because of You." I cannot wait for this album! All I can think of when I listen to the new songs is..."THIS IS THE EDGE!!!" because he really shines.

I heard CoBL, but haven't yet heard All Because of You. Are these the Top of the Pops versions you heard? Where'd you get a listen?

Yes, I have heard the crappy Top of the Pops versions that are floating around. I think I got the link from alt.fan.u2.
