College Football Dicussion for the weekend

I don't even get what you are trying to say? NBC only has Notre Dame football and the occasional Black College Football Classic. That is why they invented all those other networks and cable channels if you prefer not to watch Notre Dame football.Parker wrote:For a realist, you don't seem to know many of the college football teams well, except those that NBC rams down our throats on Saturdays.
How many of the BC games did you see?
I watched BC vs UConn because it was nationaly televised. You see I am limited to my expsoure to BC games because of a few reasons.
Boston College Football is not considered a powerhouse. Sure they go to bowls but so did North Texas the past few years. You do not see them on TV here.
For some reason the networks tend to think that in that we would prefer seeing a BIG 12 game since we are in Texas.
PS My apologies for not catching their next game in advance. I am sure that BC/Massachusetts will be a doozy. Nothing like playing a DIV 1-AA school to enhance your chance of getting national exposure.
* Now to be fair and save you some time, this is my last reply to you in this thread. So please save you breath and energy for all the excuses that will be required when your Red Sox get beat.
[/pissing match]
I think everyone of our games has been on a national network so far. Even yesterday's was on ESPN2, though it was on an alternate channel on directv so I don't know what parts of the country saw it. But it was more than just Wake Forest and Boston.
Boston College should get a lot of exposure because they have been the best football team in the northeast (sorry pk, but Syracuse never has a good defense), which has a ton of viewers, for quite a while. We are often on the verge of being ranked.

Parker -- no argument from me. Syracuse's defense SUCKS, especially the secondary. And Perry Patterson still hasn't convinced me that he's a Division I-A quarterback.
So no question -- BC will be the beast of a very soft Big East this year.
Take care,
PK

Now for the big games coming next week.
For those who love Wednesday football
Miami (OHIO) at Marshall (a tale of what could have been)
Thursday and ESPN have a few good matchups
Pittsburgh at Connecticut (Go Uconn? That was for you Murph)
Navy at Air Force (Air Force is down this year, can Navy go into the ND game undefeated?)
Friday
#14 Utah at New Mexico (Utah gets a test on the road. New Mexico beat Texas Tech and is no slouch)
Saturday
Texas Tech at #2 Oklahoma (OU defense will get their first test)
#7 West Virginia at Virginia Tech (rivalry games = possible upsets even when one of the teams is down)
Arkansas at #16 Florida (should be a challenge for Florida but at the swamp they should pull it out)
Kansas State at Texas A&M (How much better is A&M now? KSU should be a good judge of that)
Maine at Delaware (Two past winners of the DIV 1-AA championship hook up. Some of the best football in the Northeast is played in the A-10)
#15 Purdue at Notre Dame (Whichever teams defense breaks the least will win this one.)
#13 LSU at #3 Georgia (Georgia might just be out of the top 3 after this one.)
#10 Auburn at #8 Tennessee (Tennessee at home is a little tougher then THE Citadel. Auburn better bring their jock straps this week)
The traveling to Oregon games. I doubt you will see ASU or Cal upset but had to list something from the PAC-10
Arizona State at Oregon
#9 California at Oregon State

It is safe to say you follow Racing a bit more the college football. Better change that to West Virgina before Bubba comes down from the mountains to steal your hubcaps and gaze longingly at the running water coming out of your garden hose.So no question -- BC will be the beast of a very soft Big East this year.
When BC wins, they won't usually look very impressive doing it, much like the Patriots.fsquid wrote:or light his couch on fire. I saw the BC-Wake game, not impressed by either squad.
Rutgers has also improved, who I would also consider a Northeast team, but I don't think they will challenge for the title.

Well, this weekend will be a decent test, as W. Va. has to go into Blacksburg. But the next quality opponent for W. Va after that is BC on Nov. 13. So W. Va. will ride that easy schedule to an inflated ranking.bdoughty wrote:It is safe to say you follow Racing a bit more the college football. Connecticut, Syracuse, Rutgers and Temple aren't exactly Murderers' Row, and the only quality win W. Va has is an OT win at home over Maryland.
I still say BC is going to have a say in who wins the Big East title.
Out,
PK

I've been a Big East cheerleader since the conference was born in 1979. But the Big East does not deserve a BCS bid with the sad lineup of teams it has playing football this year.
Take care,
PK

Agreed, Pete. An excellent hoops conference just got even better. But the Big East is a shambles as a football conference.Pete wrote:Big East will be one hell of a basketball conference now with Cincy, Louisville and Marquette joining along with DePaul and Providence.
WOW.

Sadly, I think that the BCS is screwing the WAC, which has one more ranked team than the Disney conference that is the Big East. The Big East also has Rutgers, Temple, and Syracuse. Those teams probably couldn't win in the WAC either.bdoughty wrote:PK
Murph was just tossing out a jab at his C-USA buddy Squid who seems to think Mid-Majors deserve more and the BCS is screwing them.
You are an angry angry young man Squidward. Something tells me you are have a 10 mile restraining order from the NCAA HQ in Indianapolis.
There could be as many as 4 BCS busters when it is all said and done due to the weakness of the WAC, MWC an C-USA. Utah, So Miss, Lousiville and the winner of the Fresno St/Boise St game. Of course each conference is pretty bottom heavy and each team above is only going to face one or two tough teams in it's conference. That is the reason why the BCS looks down on each, in comparison to a Super Conference.

First of all, the WAC has nothing on getting screwed by the BCS when compared to the Pac 10. So you, C-USA , the WAC, and the rest of the mid majors get to the back of the bus where you belong.fsquid wrote:
