Anybody watch "Lost" last night?

Caught the pilot episode last night. One of the best TV debuts I've ever seen. Totally gripping and really, really weird. First time in a while I found myself dying to see the next episode.

For those of you that missed it, you should check this show out. It's better than most films.

Sure did. That and the upcoming ABC comedy-drama about the housewives, with my girl Nicolette Sheridan, are the only new shows I plan on watching.

"Lost" was great. I fully expected it to suck, but the critics are right, for a change: It's gripping as hell. Really well acted, and it felt more like a major-budget movie than a TV show.

Can't wait for the next episode. Plus Evangeline Lilly, the unknown actress who plays Kate, is mega-hot in a pure, woman-next-door way.

Very good show. I planned on watching the first few minutes and shutting it off, but I was glued to my DVR remote for the entire show, ripping through commercials to get to the next scene.

Speaking of TV show debuts:

Being a HUGE CSI (both Vegas and Miami) fan, I was pissed off at CSI NY...I just cannot take Gary Sinese seriously. He's always a bad guy and his acting is just way overdone for a TV show. I don't know, I was really disappointed with last nights episode, whereas I really liked Mondays CSI Miami season debut.

Lost should have been a 2 hour premier. I cannot believe that they started off with about 20 minutes of uninterrupted viewing and then had a 5 minute commercial break for what seemed like every 5 minutes of television show.

Lost was awesome and when the episode was over I was very disappointed. Can't wait for next week.

I saw it. I'm glad to see a major network trying a show with some short of sci-fi elements, but usually they end up on the sci-fi channel in rerurns before too long. There just isn't an audience for dramas with these strange elements apparantly. The last show of this type ABC tried was "Prey" and that didn't last too long, despite having that Grace actor from Will and Grace, a role she never talks about. Fox tried "John Doe" last year and that didn't last either. So it may join "Roswell" and all of these shows in the canceling bin I'm afraid. I guess ABC is hoping that the crashed plane aspect will gain a mainstrem audience because they are so prevalant in the news.

I also don't see how the show can be much more than a mini series. Eventually, they are going to find out what the island creature is and everything about the people living on the island. It will be interesting to see if the show changes direction after that, but it will lose most of its suspenseful and thriller qualities.

But I'm a sucker for Lord of the Flies themed shows, so I'll be watching. I have a hunch that the island creature is actually a man-made device and there is an evil genius on the island, but who knows. It sure sounded mechanical though.

LOST was very good. What the hell is the beast on the island? I'm dying to know! Very cool premise. Part Jurassic Park, part Castaway, part Survivor. For those who don't know, JJ Abrams is the producer/director. His first creation, ALIAS, is one of my favorite shows on TV right now. Jennifer Garner has a bit to do with that

I simply can't understand the "CSI" spin-off phenomenon. I mean, in how many different cities can you show forensic investigators before it gets older than Grandpa's buckskin rubber?

The original "CSI" is a good show, but I'm disappointed to see the "Area 51" element enter the season debut. When a show that has been based in somewhat gritty realism starts to rely on aliens for its plot, then it may be getting ready to jump the shark.

Could it be that the "CSI" writers have mined all of the real-life plot lines they can think of?

Couldn't agree more on Caruso: He was a jackass and overrated actor in "NYPD Blue," and not much has changed over the years.

I've never seen "CSI: NY," but I really like Sinise as a film actor. Is he that much different on TV?

I didn't say I like Caruso...but I do like him better than Gary. Just my personal preference. Plus the supporting actors/actresses in the Miami and LV versions are far superior.

I didn't watch the show, but I thought the promos were kind of interesting. I also found it amusing that only the good looking and physically fit people seemed to survive. I guess the ugly out of shape people had no chance. I'm going to bet that the large black woman that "Charlie" was talking to in the commercial didn't make it.

And what caused that giant sized hole to be ripped into the plane? Are they supposed to be on some uncharted island? Where were they headed originally?

Have it on the Tivo. Bummed I missed it live in HDTV.

Abrams is a talented guy. But after Felicity, the rep is that he decided to pursue commercial success at all costs, even if the story was implausible as hell because that was apparently what the viewers wanted, big flashy action, shallow plots and minimal characterizations.

I didn't see too much of Alias but did catch it on Sunday nights a few times because it was in HDTV after Sunday Night Football. Yeah whatever, was what I was thinking every 10 minutes.

So Lost should be good for eye candy if nothing else. There is a piece on Slate where Abrams is quoted as saying the monster may be metaphorical?

Anyways, I'm not expecting more than the cinematic equivalent of a roller coaster ride, with pretty scenery, which is what 24 has become. Still entertaining tho.

When I read this I nearly fell of the chair. To say you can't take Sinese seriously and his acting is way overdone yet also say that you are a fan of CSI Miami struck me as very odd. I love Sinese and I'm looking forward to seeing how he is in CSI. I taped the debut (so no spoilers Spooky

) and will probably watch it this weekend.

I asked myself some of the same questions, but then I realized there's a healthy dose of sci fi tossed in this show, so I stopped the quest for realism.

The fact that ANYONE survived in a crash of a plane that lost its tail at 40,000 feet is ridiculous. And the fact that the corpses in the plane and on the beach were intact also is silly. And there was a VERY fat dude who survived, the guy that helped the pregnant chick.

But all things considered, "Lost" was still compelling as hell.

I watched Lost at 8 PST last night after I couldn't get PK to send me a Nascar invite......damn that lobby sucks.

I liked the show but that shaky camera thing was getting on my nerves.
It just appeared and though someone was purposely shaking the camera
to add "effect". Made me dizzy. Other than that, good show so far.
Will be watching next week.

There were a good scattering of beautiful and ugly people among the survivors. Of course, the two main people are good looking, but the one fat guy that lived made Horatio Sanz look like Antonio Banderas.

My actual hunch on what's going on...this is just my opinion, but I'll leave space as a quasi SPOILER alert...

They are actually in the afterlife. When I first heard the noise, I thought dinosaurs, but that seemed to completely go against the atmosphere of the show. But the implausibility of these people surviving the crash, the almost supernatural element of the thing out in the jungle, the "where are we" kind of disbelief gave me a vibe like "The Others." Just my guess.

Damn, Piggy, that was you? F*ck! I saw the little envelope appear in my EA Messenger screen, but my Friends list showed no one sending me an invite.

You're right: The EA Sports online lobby interface for NASCAR 2005 sucks like a Hoover. In fact, everything about NASCAR 2005 online sucks -- except for the racing. And that makes the pain of the interface well worth it. I had some EXCELLENT races last night with strangers.

I wasn't expecting realism...I just thought it was funny that only good looking people survived. I know it's TV, but it's still funny.

So apparently a fat guy made it? Did he eventually die somewhere during the first show or will he make it? I am guessing all the women were hot. Like I said, I didn't watch it. But, maybe I'll catch the next episode.

So, what caused the plane to get ripped apart? And, do planes fly 40,000 ft in the air?

The first episode made me want to see the next one...I'm mostly concerned about how well they develop the characters, that's the key to making this a good series, rather than just a great mini-series premise. Should be interesting.

It amazes how the majority of actors and actresses on these off-beat dramas are always Canadian (including Lilly). I guess they can't get as many recognizable American tv stars to commit to any sort of show with supernatural elements, and I can't blame them with the track record of non-formulaic dramas in recent years.

Those would be incorrect assumptions. There are a whole diverse ammount of survivors.
