Yeah. We get most of the Ravens' games here, and I love rooting against them so I get to see Reed play quite a bit. The guy is pretty amazing. I wish the Steelers had him. The Steelers had a lot better defense when Carnell Lake was making big plays in the secondary and Reed reminds me of Lake a bit.

I feel bad for Charles Rogers. It didn't take long for him to get hurt again.

That has a lot to do with it. I never thought he'd be a good NFL safety. He's proven to be a starter, but nothing more. I don't really think he's pro bowl material yet, but then again he's only going into his 3rd year. He still makes some 'young guy' mistakes. The Miami pedigree certainly doesn't hurt his hype machine.

Yawn. Page me when he does something. He had 3 tackles yesterday and a helluva lot of opportunities. Roy Williams has better stats than Reed over the last two years and doubled Reed's tackle total yesterday.

I had Curtis Martin and still managed to lose by a nose, thanks to my opponent playing both Priest Holmes and Quentin Griffin.

I'm curious as to what people's fantasy teams look like. This is my fourth year of playing FF, and it's probably my weakest team (which isn't saying much, as I've managed to put together some legendary, legendary fantasy football teams- in '99 I had Kurt Warner, Isaac Bruce, Marshall Faulk, Edgerrin James and Randy Moss all on my team...I had Terrell Owens and David Boston the year they went 1-2 in receiving, along with Marshall Faulk during his 25 TD campaign...my teams have been sick). Anyway, this year, I was picking last in a ten team league, which is absolutely the worst place to be. There were a ton of guys who I had planned on taking- Chad Johnson, Quentin Griffin, Michael Bennett, Charles Rogers (whew!), Edgerrin James, but who I just couldn't justify taking when it was my turn to pick, as there were better players on the board and they would all be gone before it was my turn to pick again.

I ended up taking Peyton Manning at quarterback with Carson Palmer as his backup. I really like Palmer, but I doubt I'll play him more than once. I passed over Chad Johnson and took Torry Holt with my second pick. In retrospect, I would have taken Johnson and Holt one and two and secured a quarterback later, but c'est la vie. I stocked up on running backs, taking four- Travis Henry, Chris Brown, Curtis Martin and Thomas Jones. I think Brown and Martin are both going to have big years, so even though I didn't get a big name guy, I'm pretty happy. But my receivers are another story. I've got Holt, then Plexico Burress, Reggie Wayne, Tyrone Calico and Brandon Lloyd. It's not a terrible group, but Wayne and Burress both go through stretches where they totally disappear (as they did this week). Anthony Becht and LJ Smith are my relatively worthless tight ends. We play six defenders, two DEs, two LBs and two DBs, and I've got John Abraham and Shaun Ellis at end, Takeo Spikes and Derrick Brooks at LB, and Sean Taylor and Adam Archuleta as my DBs (thinking that safeties would end up with more picks than corners, plus force a few fumbles and make some tackles to boot). It was as solid a team as I could put together under the circumstances, but I'm not thrilled. Henry and Martin have their bye on week three, but after that I won't need to stockpile RBs and might try to swing a trade for an upgrade at receiver.

Okay, I have to bite on this one. Roy Williams, the supposed best safety in the game, had 76 tackles, 2 sacks and 2 interceptions last year. Ed Reed, "he who has done nothing," had 71 tackles, 1 sack and 7 interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown. That's not even taking into consideration that Ed Reed was arguably the best special teams player in the league. Roy Williams has the hype, Roy Williams is the stronger tackler, but Ed Reed is the guy who actually makes plays.

My fantasy team is fairly tame this year. A 15 team league with:

1 QB
2 WR
1 RB
1 TE
1 WR/TE
1 WR/RB
1 K
2 D Players

My starting lineup looks like this:

QB - C. Pennington
RB - D. McCallister
WR - R. Wayne
WR - D. Terrell
TE - K. Winslow
WR/TE - D. Stallworth
WR/RB - Domanick Davis
k - J. Hall
D - Z. Thomas
D - J. Porter

My Bench:

WR - Mark Clayton
RB - Kevin Jones
TE - Daniel Graham
QB - David Carr

So in my first game...I lost 91 to 84. I got screwed though because I had C. Rodgers starting instead of David Terrell (whom I picked up this morning). So basically, I've got a couple stud RB's, a legit TE and QB...but nothing in terms of Wide Receivers. I really need help in that area.

I disagree about your assessment of the Ravens. Here we have a guy who had over 2,000 yards last year, a rock-solid offensive line (though Ogden did not play on Sunday), and one of the best defenses in the league.

This is a team that is over-rated? Granted, Buller must play well and at times the Ravens' offense has trouble scoring TDs. But defense wins championships and the Ravens have one the best.

I say they beat the Steelers next week.

It makes sense. If a guy plays for a team I support, I like him. If the same guy plays for the opposition, then I don't like him.

Not if Jake keeps throwin' left handed.

One year with the Cards, he threw one behind his back or head while being sacked. You would think he'd have learned.

But with his quickness and Denver's running game, he can make that naked bootleg play where the defense has to honor the running threat and flow to one side while he fakes the handoff and roll out to the other side. (speaking of which, football video games need ot have this kind of play).

The best website on the net for football (Football Outsiders) has singled out the Ravens as statistically the most likely team in the league to disappoint for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is the high liklihood that Jamal Lewis' 2004 season is very similar to Ricky Williams' 2003 season. In terms of efficiency, the Ravens grade out as the #1 defense in the league and the #32 offense in the league which, when you put it together, sounds an awful lot like 8-8.

They may beat the Steelers next week, but they won't win the division and won't make the playoffs.

I told you the NFC North was not that bad. If GB can hold on, 3 of the 4 teams will be 1-0.

I'm watching another football game as well. Currently the Kansas City Royals lead the NY Yankees 17-3 after kicking an extra point. Gotta love that Yankee pitching!

There was a game late last year where some team stacked it up to stop Jamal Lewis and they were successful because the Ravens couldn't threaten downfield.

Teams are going to cover the Ravens receivers one on on (except for Heap) and dare them to beat them deep. Boller has the arm but probably not the ability yet (if ever) to hurt teams deep. The WRs are of course the other part of the equation. Strange that they let Marcus Robinson go.

So no doubt other teams will bring up a safety and force anyone other than Lewis and Heap to beat them.

The Ravens can certainly beat the Steelers, but if they win this week it will be going against the recent trend. The Steelers pretty much own the Ravens winning 11 of the last 15 and 6 of the last 7 in Baltimore (you have to hate it when 15,000 to 25,000 fans of the opposite team show up in your stadium).
