Official NHL2K5 Impressions Thread!!!

You mean you paid twenty skins for what you called nothing more than "a roster update for sure"?I have the game on Xbox so i'm not playing at a kiosk.
I've went back and read this whole thread and if this little disagreement you're having with PK were a hockey fight PK would be Darren McCarty and you'd be Claude Lemiuex

Really ... My last schoolyard challenge came in seventh grade. Tim has provided me with a bit of charming nostalgia. Maybe he'll mail me some Wacky Packages and we can watch H.R. Puffinstuf together ...James_E wrote:My Dad could beat up your Dad.

All right! You remember Puffinstuf and Wacky Packages! I take back all the bad stuff I said about you in this thread, even if you're high to think Cliffie plays like Bertuzzi in ESPN NHL 2K5.
Any cat who remembers Puffinstuf and Wacky Packages is cool by me.
Take care,
PK

It wasn't a reacharound, but...
Martin St. Louis just scored the best goal against me I have ever witnessed in video game hockey on a breakaway.
I've messed with the sliders a bit to create a more simulation game and I'm very impressed so far. I like the fact that you can slow the game down a bit and it doesn't seem like slow motion.
This is in no way a glorified roster update. I am seeing a rather significant difference once you start tweaking. In fact, I think NHL 2k5 is much more of an upgrade than ESPN Football as far as gameplay is concerned.

Blueduke, this is only my second night with the game so I am still tweaking Pro. I've never been a big fan of sliders. I usually just tweak a little here and there as I go through a season. So far I have decreased the speed of the game 2 or 3 notches, totally eliminated the pass assist, decreased the pass accuracy a few for me, decreased my goalie 2 notches on each setting, and dropped the default hit power in half. I think I am using 7 minute accelerated periods with power plays at 1:00. I may drop back to 6 minutes.
FYI, if anyone is looking for some nice, early realistic sliders go here - http://www.espnhockey.net/forums/index. ... =5415&st=0 A guy named Pengman came up with them so much props to him. I just played a hellish online game with a friend of mine and it was blast. Our stats were super.

LOL. Todd, I don't really think you can go wrong for $20. Some glowing reviews are starting to come in (9.2 IGN and 9.1 Gamespot) as well. The Gamespot review is actually pretty decent:MizzouRah wrote:I was a bit concerned but Leebo33 has re-assured me 2k5 is a worthy purchase indeed.

Pengman's sliders are usually very good (he's the other guy who runs XSHL [online ESPN hockey league] with me). I'm also using his sliders and they're very fun and yield great shot count totals.Diablo25 wrote:FYI, if anyone is looking for some nice, early realistic sliders go here - http://www.espnhockey.net/forums/index. ... =5415&st=0 A guy named Pengman came up with them so much props to him. I present to you today's clueless review, starting with its incorrect title:
http://www.tothegame.com/review.asp?id=73
Obviously, realistic gameplay doesn't matter to many.
I also don't see what is so bad about the franchise mode. Less glaring issues than in ESPN football.
