What's Your "Gaming Setup"?
just curious....
I use a 27" old tube style Sony TV, with Logitech X-340 speakers hooked up to the TV and I have a neat "gaming chair" recliner.

Mine is mobile. In my main room I've got a 29inch Flat Wega (Soon to be a 40inch High Def XBR) with a Panasonic Receiver/DVD player and Polk Audio surround speakers. The connection to XBL over the Linksys Wireless Game Adapter.
In my office I've got my 29inch Philips with another Wireless Game Adapter.
No need for wires in this gamers house. Just gotta move the Xbox from room to room when one of the two is being used.

36" Wega non-HD with 5.1 surround sound. I sit on the couch.
Once I move to my new place... all will change. Probably be in my cockpit for racing games, maybe for all games. I might have to play on a smaller TV though.
I'm getting a room to myself in teh new house. The 4th bedroom is going to be mine (wife gets the loft) so I'll have a PC and my consoles in there, with my cockpit and all my other geeky stuff.

My house is wired with CAT5 so I have a router and it is setup now to where I can "plug-in" to the network in the family room or my den. I usually play in the family room on a Sony 27 inch TV with 5.1 surround sound.
I also still have a PS2, which I usually use in the basement while I walk on the treadmill.

Great choice. That is the one I have.(Soon to be a 40inch High Def XBR)

The stand was free and is pretty limited for storage with two shelves but with a 300 lb+ TV you have few options.
Also have a Sony 5.1 speaker setup that is pretty generic. Not a big sound guy and just wanted something to match the TV.

Pretty plain-Jane and thrifty for me -- surprise, surprise: 32-inch Sony Trinitron in basement, 9 years old. No home theater or speakers.
I run a 30-foot Ethernet cable to the router in my office for Xbox Live play. I either sit on the floor or on the couch in front of the TV when playing.
Take care,
PK

38" RCA HDTV (old school tube TV, yet still has better picture than most current technologies). 5.1 surround sound system. I don't find the 5.1 to really make that much of a difference on my x-box though, and i don't even play too many console games. I'll take my PC over the x-box any day. My TV is mostly used for, well, TV and my DVD collection. 5.1 makes a huge difference for movies.

I still haven't been convinced that Plasma or LCD is any better than Tubes anyway. Hence the reason I'm gonna get a tube HDTV (as mentioned above)...I personally like the way they look too. They just seem a lot cleaner to me.LAking wrote:38" RCA HDTV (old school tube TV, yet still has better picture than most current technologies).

Hey, if any of you fellas are in Dallas I'd be glad to get some games in with you. Mobiggins comes by now and again for some PES games on the big screen.bdoughty wrote:Party at Snates house!
And if any of you want the room for yourself, you can have it. I have my house on the market. With two kids now, the family has grown out of the brownstone downtown and we are looking to get to the burbs.

Hoping to update this next year, but need to buy a house first!
35" Sony Trinitron
Onkyo receiver
Polk 5.1 speaker package
S-Video capable switchbox
XBox
PS2
GameCube
I run a 25' ethernet cable from the office whenever I want to go on XBL.
Those Sony LCD projection Wegas are pretty amazing -- my father-in-law has one, and while the viewing angles are not as generous, the picture easily rivals plasma for about half the price.

Sudz, I remember a friend of mine had a setup like that back in the NES days. Remember playing World Games and River City Ranson with the TV in the closet.
I just have a 27 inch Panasonic Tau (I think?) TV, nothing too great. Usually sit on the floor in the living room playing it. Have to unplug the computer to play on Live, but they're right next to each other.
We're moving in three weeks, so hopefully I'll have a somewhat better setup at that point.
What's the story on using a projection TV with games these days? Still burn-in concerns, or are the graphics so much better that the images aren't nearly as static?
I'm trying to talk the wife into a new TV, but see no reason to do another regular one (need the HD) and the projections are so much cheaper.

I used to game on the 52" Sony- only 3 years old but the only tv incompatible with xbox (at least thats what the guy from microsoft said). However I grew tired of gaming after the wife went to sleep. I subsequently got a 15"-yes just 15" flat screen on sale for like 70 bucks. Pretty tight picture. Its very portable and I can switch betwen the xbox and ps2 in 1-2 minutes. It allows me to game while the wife watches something else- instead of us being in separate rooms. Plus I get to sleep earlier and well- actually we have more sex since I now go to bed at a reasonable hour. I can also easily pack it up for those dreaded trips to my inlaws farm. So although initially I didnt want to give up the size Ive grown accustomed to it and it makes gaming easier for me.
