taking names for NHL2k5 DSP league
I figure fewer people will be playing this one since it's not as popular as football, so maybe we can avoid the fiasco of NFL2k5's DSP league attempt.
In any case, interested parties sign up here. I call Dallas Stars.

I'm interested. How many games in the league? Smaller, the better for me. I'll pass if it's a full-length league.
Take care,
PK

We can do half-season to start.
I'd like to do a full season, but I understand those who can't. I probably shouldn't, either.
Yeah, half season wouldn't be bad. It's still up in the air, I mean, the game's not even out, I know, but I just wanted to try and plant a flag early to avoid all that mess we had with NFL.
Consider yourself penciled in for the moment. Pick a team.

What do you mean exactly by half season? You're not talking 41 games are you? I'm definitely interested but 41 would be way too many for me. If we pick our teams now I'd like the Blackhawks but I'm cool with a draft because I doubt anyone want the Hawks.

I may be interested in a league, but I won't know until I have the game, see how it plays online, see what the rosters are like, see what the leagues system is like, and read some feedback on how it all works (or try a super-short league to see how it works).
With the NFL league, we had too many guys want in. But I think if everyone knew what was really up (single table, no divisions, etc.) response would have been much more measured.
I'm not trying to be a buzz-kill here. I just don't think it makes sense to have league sign-ups before anyone has actually played the game. Remember the MVP leagues? There were enough sign-ups for that to fill 3 leagues, before the game even came out. In the end, I don't think a single one of those leagues got more than 3 or 4 games in.
So, one has to wonder what the rosters in a video game could possibly be. And since we don't know if the online rosters will be updateable at all, or if so when they may be updated, expecially if there is no NHL season, then it makes a lot of sense to be worried.
In any league, I would take the Caps, so I'm not worried anyone esle would want my team (is Bondra really gone???). But they have half a roster right now, so I don't know what the video game version of the team would look like. Probably not much worse than what they ended up with at the end of the season
Thing is, the main reason I think the DSP NFL league fell apart before it could get going is because we had sign-ups weeks before the game came out. What happens is everone gets that 'I don't want to miss out, if this turns out to be really cool' feeling. But then when the game comes out and all the zits appear, the mood is entirely different.mobigiins wrote: I mean, the game's not even out, I know, but I just wanted to try and plant a flag early to avoid all that mess we had with NFL.

What he means by this, for those who may not know: if the season doesn't happen, or doesn't start on time, there are a lot of teams right now who do not have filled rosters. That is, they would normally be signing free agents in order to shore up their sides, but in this lock-out situation (potential lock-out, I guess), there is next to no free-agent signing going on.LAking wrote:How do we decide on rosters? What if there is no season and some teams haven't really filled out their roster with NHL quality players?

I have no problem staying with Ottawa. Buffalo and Ottawa are the closest teams to me, but the Sabres suck! So I'm happy with the Sens even though I'm a die-hard Oilers' fan.
Grog gets squatters' rights to Edmonton, which is fine with me. Wait a minute ... using squat in a post about Grog could lead to another "I've held a sh*t for six hours and am about to explode" thread ...
Take care,
PK
