Anyone up for a 50- or 100-lapper tonight at Michigan?

Post by pk500 »

Boys:

I'm getting jacked for the Michigan Indy 400 IRL race this afternoon. Anyone interested in running an IndyCar Series 2005 race tonight at Michigan, either 50 or 100 laps starting at 11 p.m. (EDT)?

Very casual. No qualifying, random grid, full rules.

I'd like to get at least six human racers. Let me know if you're interested!

Take care,
PK

PK, I'll be there for sure for a 100 lapper :D

Damn you last night....I saw you on LIVE with INDY Car Series after my game of ESPN NFL with Jack....I jumped on with INDY and you were gone.

Then I went on my CPU and a half hour later my MSN messenger program said you were on Dashboard again...I jumped on INDY, set up a room...and you were gone again.

Come on Zeppo, Mix, Fish, Jimmy, XXXIV, Jack, Terry....lets do a 100 lapper tonight!

I'll try to be there. My connection has been kind of flakey lately. I couldn't even get a game of ESPN 2K5 in with Fshguy after 4 tries last night. :( I'm pretty sure the problem is somebody in my neighborhood downloading boatloads of porn or hosting warez. :x Maybe tonight they'll be busy watching the stuff they downloaded last night and I'll have a lag free session. ;)

I'll be there. Lets do a 50 lapper. 100 laps is a bit too long if we are starting at 11 pm. could we bump up the starting time a bit?

Jack:

A 100-lapper at Michigan with no qualifying will take around an hour, with minimal cautions.

I can be persuaded to run 50, but I don't want to start much earlier than 11. Selfishly, I want to watch my recording of the Michigan Indy 400 after the kids and frau go to bed, getting jacked up for our virtual race.

But if the masses speak, I'll submit to the masses. :)

Out,

Sounds like a lot of fun. As usual I will try and be there, but I cannot make any commitments. Look for me online though...

Of course. Too bad there's not an IPod or Apple skin for the cars! :)

Take care,

Ummmmmmm... iPod....((sounding like Homer Simpson)).

I feel it necessary to now exclaim how much I f'in LOVE my iPod everytime that thing gets mentioned here. It's that good.

In all seriousness though, the actual 40 GB 'MP3' player (regardless of the brand) has really changed my music experience. I don't know how I got by so long without one. I LOVE music and had well over 700 CD's to show for it, but never really listened to them that much because of the hassle in bringing them to the car (where I listen to 80% of my muisc now-a-days), bringing them back out of the car, re-alphabetizing them, ect... Having the ability to shuffle through my entire collection gives me the opprotunity to hear SO much music from my collection that would normally go unheard for way too long.

To have my ENTIRE collection in the palm of my hand and to then be able to share those files with friends and get tons of stuf from them (without having to burn CD's) is too cool.

Okay, thread hijack is now officially over. Sorry. 8O

Sport:

I agree with Spook wholeheartedly. It's awesome to have 4,000 songs in the palm of my hand, with room for another 4,000 -- in my new Creative Jukebox Zen Xtra, that is. :)

Seriously, MP3's have changed music for me, too.

Take care,

Sorry guys, I'm out for tonight. I'm a little too wore out from working around the house to try to do an hour long race. Plus Fshguy and I are still trying to get our football game in. See you for GR:IT and/or RS:BA later in the week.

What an awesome racing experience with you guys last night. That was just what the doctor ordered to relieve some stress.

Of course, I'm paying for it this morning as I roll my tired self into work...

Agreed,

Thanks to PK for setting this one up, and for finally letting me play with the big boys.

A second place finish in race #1 and it was downhill from there...

Highlight of the night: I had a front row seat (about 6 car lengths back) to watch pigpen and snyder duel it out. "outside, outside,...oh sh*t" and into the wall for synder.

Dave, Sport:

Glad you guys made it. Wished I could have seen Piggy and Dave go for it those laps or even be in the scrap, but I was driving like an idiot last night. Acting like one, for that matter, too! :)

Sport, man, you raced well. Give yourself some credit.

Good fun, fellas. Let's do it again soon!

Take care,

boy, I too, am paying for it this AM. How late did you all go? Sorry, that I was such a mess last night, wrecking and such. Some nights I just don't have it and can't keep my car off the wall. I don't know if I need to tweak my setups or what. The car always seems real tight the first 2 or 3 laps. I know to drive cautiously on cold tires, but it doesn't seem to effect you guys as much, so I must be doing something wrong. Cory (Sport) you looked like an old pro out there. I am so jealous of all you guys gaming abilities! I am always struggling just to keep up :)

hope we can get a regular Indy "Poker Night" going. How's every Sun night sound? Maybe we can start a bit earlier next week?

much fun last night.

That 5-6 lap stretch(maybe less....but it felt like it) with Dave at Michigan was nuts....for laps 35-41 he caught my draft after I made a mistake on turn one when I turned incorrectly over the bump....I saved myself from crashing but lost speed in the process, so a 4 second lead became under 1.

Dave caught my draft and tried to pass me over the next 5 laps........I don't know how I held him off....it was insane.....he would go high and I would somehow hold my line low and he couldn't get around me....5 or 6 times this happened where we were 2 wide through turns....then suddenly coming out of turn 2 he lost it......race over.

Then to top it off......I enter the pits early at California(the last race) in a bit of strategy......2 laps later I realize I am in 1st somehow because I was 4th before entering in the 1st place.

I have an 8 second lead with 10 laps to go and it is quickly evaporating.....my setup at Cali stinks.

with 2 laps left PK is fast approaching and is about to make a pass......then coming out of turn 2 on lap 19 he runs out of fuel....and Dave does as well....Piggy rolls to victory with .1 left on the fuel meter.

This still is my GOY so far this year.....I love it...

Since I am on vacation till the end of August I have a strategy......stay up as late as possible and get up as early as possible.....maximize awake vacation time......slept at 12:30 tongiht ans woke up at 6:30 this morning.

100 lapper at Nashville next Sunday?

Every night can be Indy Poker Night, as far as I'm concerned! Probably my favorite game to play on XBL right now.

:)

Every night works for me.

Anyone else up for another go this evening? I think another 50 -lapper. Say around 10PM (so you can get to bed a little earlier)?

I could be up for some racing tonight. Not sure if I'd make it in time for the 50 lapper, but I would definitely try.

As long as some of you are guaranteed to do some 20 lappers (or more long races) after the "main event" I'll most likely be able to join in for at least a couple.

I'm surprisingly not as tired as I expected today...

Pigpen, that Michigan race was epic, at least until I upset the car trying to get a run down the backstretch. I could never figure out if the high line would have worked if I needed it to, or if desperation was going to set in and we would have pulled a Papis-Brack coming out of 4 in the last couple laps.

Count me in! And I'll be sober -- promise. It's a school night. :)

I'm down for either a 50-lapper or a collection of 20-lappers at different tracks.

See you at 10 p.m. (EDT). Are you hosting, Sport, or do you want me to? I'm not sure how strong everyone's hosting connection is with this game. Mine seems decent.

Once again I could not get my sh*t together enough last night to make time for racing, however, I do want to get in on this fun!

One thing though, I am a bit intimidated now that everyone has spent more time with the game and I have not been able to. I really don't have a grasp on the car setup stuff and feel that if I just jump in at default settings, I will just end up being in the way. Can anyone give me some pointers/assistnace regarding settings and/or do you guys ever race using just defualts so everyone is more-or-less equal (or does that take the fun out of it)?

Let me know. I do remember a thread started a while back with some pointers but I could not find it in searching.

Thanks guys.
