Upcoming WE8 Japanese Release

Post by Naples39 »

If I am not mistaken, WE8 is coming out August 5th in Japan. Anybody have a pre-order in on it?

I'm pretty excited for it myself, although I've never imported a game for my PS2. Can anybody recommend a website?

Also, I was thinking I would get one of those slide card/boot disc solutions for $30, as there is no way I am soldering anything in my PS2. Anybody tried those, or can recommend another course of action?

Naples,

If you're looking for a source, try videogamedepot.com. I've gotten WE from them more quickly than playasia.

As far as how to actually run the thing, be careful - ever since WE started shipping on DVD it won't work out of the box with the swap trick (and I believe the slide cards). You will need to wait for someone to make a rip kit that gets things down to the size where it will not only fit on a CD, but work with all the swap tricks (it has to be slightly smaller).

Getting your PS2 modded or springing for a pre-mod is the easiest route. However, with PES4 coming out for the Xbox it might be better to wait and go that route.

The slide card solution I was looking at came with two boot discs one for DVD and one for CD: http://www.modchipstore.com/PS2_Slide_C ... 16158.html

I guess I could wait, but I'm just getting antsy. By the time it's out for Xbox I could pick up a PC version anyway. We're talking about 2 or 3 month wait for release in Europe right?

I haven't had problems with the game on DVD using a swap trick (using one of the Swap Magic boot disks...I don't remember which kind, and don't even know if they're around anymore). But who knows with this year's version.....

I probably will wait unless there are English menues which I doubt. I don't want to spend the money on a DVD-R. I should just spend that money on a modded XBox and play Pal games on it.

I'll provide impressions as soon as possible (I'll try my best to understand the Japanese). Word is the game will be on a dvd which will make patching it for English more difficult (even though it's possible).

Didn't the last Japan WE game have an option in the game for English menus? Did they remove that feature?

No, WE7, the first version that came out in Japan did not have English menus as an option, which is why people came out with patches.

Two games were released in Japan last year. WE7 had no English menus. The "sequel" that year was WE7:International, and on that one they had English menus (along with some other European languages).

Jared's right, but the word on the street is that there will be no English menus with WE8. No doubt it will be modded with a translation after a few weeks as it has in the past. Makes you wonder what they are going to do with all that leftover DVD capacity.
