Both teams are taken, how about taking the only team left (Cardinals)?

Well if this is the non-32 team league, then he should be able to take whoever he wants for this one. If it's setup s.t. it's not a full 32-team only league, the NFC West could be merged with another division. OR if people are concerned about not having enough games in a season, the divisions could be merged to 6 instead of 8 (reflecting the old East-Central-South format). Just a thought.....either way should be fine.

Originally I thought this was going to be a smaller league...with 32 teams, I've never seen those work personally. I'm a bit confused as to what is going on with what anymore, so I'll just take my name out of the hat in this one. In my experience, getting 32 guys to play their games ontime is a miracle of epic proportions. It's bad enough with 10 or 15.

Terry:

FYI ... I wasn't picking on you with the 77-0 example in a prior post. But dude, you lost once or twice in what, close to 100 online NFL 2K4 matches?

Your game against me would make Frank Perdue's slaughterhouse look like a small butcher shop. :)

I guess my point is that I don't mind getting destroyed in multi, multi-player games such as shooters, racers and golf, as there always seems to be someone around my skill level so it's competitive. But to spend an hour or more getting trashed, one-on-one, with you and a bunch of other virtual football studs 17 times just wasn't appealing to me. And I refuse to quit a game because I'm losing -- that's unfair to the other player.

Take care,
PK

Just make them play your VIP profile if you can't make it.

Anyway a 32 team league is beautiful in concept, but I agree with TCrouch as it would require a miracle to get it past week 4 without some serious compromises to the integrity that your attempting to attain with a 32 Human controlled team league in the first place.

Maybe it's smarter to start with a smaller, more divisional league (i.e. pigpen's idea) before going into the 32-team thing. An analogy would be starting a racing league and having the first four races be 200 laps at Indianapolis. That might be really fun...but it might be better to ease into something like that first....wait and see how people like the game, give newbies a chance to improve before the game starts, etc. PK might suck at ESPN now...but after 8 games in a mini-league, he'll likely be just as competitive as most of us.

Now I definitely do NOT want to give up on the 32-team thing. But maybe we should just ease into it with the "pigpen" league. Then after having played 8-12 games of ESPN in this league, people can decide if they want to go with the 17 week version. How does that sound for everyone?

(One more idea...if people don't like the idea of having to play only people in their own division, we could have it where people play their divisional opponents twice and the opponents in another division once (i.e. the Fins would play every AFC East opponent twice and every....NFC East opponent once). Or they can play every team in their conference once (though that might be too big). I don't know how varied are the scheduling options in 2k5, so we'll have to see if something like that could work IF people (and pigpen) thought it was a good idea.)

I can't even keep up on the format let alone the people dropping out.

bad news....the least amount of teams allowed by ESPN is 8.

There is no option for 9, 10, 11, etc.

the next level is 16.

I can take the divisions and combine them into 8 team divisions.

That would make 4 small leagues each with 8 teams....but we are stuck with some being left out again.

We need 40 players to make 5 leagues.

I believe we have 36 right now

I say our best bet is to have 5 "8" team leagues and play one game against each opponent...totalling 7 games.

then take the top 10 teams...6 get byes.......4 play a wildcard

then have a tournament with 8 teams for the championship.

I'll work on re-organizing the leagues

Jared:

That sounds cool.

I know for a fact that I do NOT want to be in a 17-week league even if I become the bastard offspring of the '72 Dolphins and the '85 Bears during the short league, as unlikely as that is to happen. :)

If you are worried about a team connected to a gamertag and someone dropping and not being able to replace him, then what's the difference between a big league or several small ones? Wouldn't the same problem be there?

If a player doesn't get a game in beofre the determined time I believe they are given a forfeit for their scheduled game.

So either way, the league will go on, large or small.

The small leagues are a way to allow everyone to participate witht he team of their choice.

In thoery it sounds good, hopefully, we can work it out.

I was 143-4 last year, with 2 games I let guys win just to say that they beat me on OS, and another that I screwed around long enough to come back and win with, then screwed up. The only time I got handily outplayed was in the PS2 league when wco thoroughly handed me my ass. I think it was 26-13 or something like that. It was a beautiful thing, though. I threw a pick, he ran Ricky like mad with the Dolphins, and I just felt the noose getting tighter and tighter until it was out of reach. Hell, last year I went 91-0 before losing that game (thank God for record wipes every month so nobody would see my record before playing me...it would always just be 20-0, 23-0, hahah), but this year I'm already only 4-1, losing to Steve at OS when I fumbled on his 15 with 1:15 to go. Went down 21-20 to the Cowboys, what a shameful game.

By far my most memorable game of last year was wco's assclobbering of me. Although honestly, most of it was the overrated Raider team. This year they're back down to Earth. My not wanting to play in a 32 team league didn't have much to do with that post though, Paul (I didn't even see it lol), but more along the lines of I have no idea wtf is going on from post to post, or who's running what, or what the format is.

I'm a traditional type of guy, and I started a league at OS that I'll be running. I'll just focus on that one.

another slight wrinkle.

when we get to the playoffs....the game wont let you have two of the same teams.

So the playoffs might have to be played outside the system and updated here.

Also, there will have to be one person from each league set the league up.

I can only set up the league I will be playing in.

So if this is a go, then someone will have to set up the other 4 leagues.

Lastly, if push comes to shove, we can have some of us play in the 5th league with a 2nd team.

Not ideal....but if someone wants to play more than a game a week it can be done.

come on Terry, you can handle an 8 team league in addition to the OS league....you are a huge part of the DSP family...I'll set it up since I will be a sacrificial lamb as my Chargers.....Slumberland just clobbered me 27-7.

Everyone's GamerTags?

Post by RandyM »

Are the nick names here the same as peoples' gamertags? Or is there a list of gamertags for everyone in the league so I can go ahead and fill up my friends list?

Thanks,

My head stopped spinning just long enough to write this. Can someone just explain where we are with the league. I'm in no matter the format, but just would like to know WHAT that format is. Great, thanks.

Yeah scratch me from the list as well. I will continue to look for a league with a traditional format, whether that be 32 teams or 16 whatever.

Jared if you do get a traditional league going Id like to be in on it.

The more I think about it, the more skeptical I become. My plate is pretty much full right now with ESPN and NCAA leagues.
I'd like to remove my name from the list.

Sorry guys.

The best thing to do is create the league on the ESPN server. Then tell everyone the name and password.

First ones to get to the server and pick their team are in. Less headache. To hell with trying to keep track of who is who.

Sully that is an excellent idea.

Although, people getting stuck with teams they don't want might hurt the league's survival, in the long run.

We've still got that initial list to work with. Once I get some sleep, I can give the 32-team setup another shot tomorrow... see if we can get it together. No rush.
