Good question. I wanted to run an NCAA league, but was told someone else was going to do a DSP one and I have yet to see that start.JackB1 wrote:Slumber....I know u prefer a "1st come, 1st serve setup" since we both want the Jets and you posted first. But would you feel the samw way if I just happened to log on and post before you did? There's got to be a fair way? I guess whoever is going to "run" the league will have to decide. So who is running the league?
Someone just needs to take the bull by the horns so to speak, and that someone looks like Slumber to me.

Jack, I'd have no problem if the situation were reversed and you had picked the Jets. None whatsoever. It's just a method, and it does favor people who compulsively check the site every five minutes, I admit. But I don't see the point of scrapping the progress made so far, trying to come up with some criteria of seniority, and then holding a team draft. But we'll do our best to get everyone on board.JackB1 wrote:Slumber....I know u prefer a "1st come, 1st serve setup" since we both want the Jets and you posted first. Mobiggins, I looked through the thread, and 34 people had already expressed interest before your post. Did I make a mistake, or was there another league thread at any point that I'm missing? Let me know and I'll rectify the situation.
In any case, we'll try hard to get everyone on board who wants to be. I'll definitely seek confirmation from the very new members, just to make sure they're serious.
Jared, if you can get db to agree to a challenge, by all means go for it, and let me know the results. I have a feeling he's secure in his choice, though.

I'll play ya for 'em Jared. It's all fair. Just because I saw the thread first doesn't mean I should get them. I don't mind playing as the Chiefs if I lose. So we'll just take those two teams and we'll figure it out on the field. Cool?Jared wrote:Dang. I still want to fight DB for the Fins. But if I have to go with an alternate, it'll be the Chiefs.
That's fine. You'll probably whip me good...but then I'd rather the better player take the 'Fins to glory than having me waste their talents. Either way, the Chiefs aren't a bad team to have (although their matador defense will be interesting).dbdynsty25 wrote:I'll play ya for 'em Jared. It's all fair. OK gang, this is building up to be too much for me. It would be cool to have a full 32 team league, but the difficulties are too great for me to deal with. And what happens if some owners quit, as inevitably happens?
Anyway, consider me out for this edition of the league. If a new one starts up in football season, i might be in for it. The Redskins are now available.

If an owner quits, I'm pretty sure it'd be easy to find an alternate. Any 32 team league is gonna involve lots of demand for the good/favorite teams and not much for the others (Cards anyone?)....so this is bound to happen. Once we've got the 32 set, I think it should work out great. And I don't think it'll be that problematic of a process.
Yes but I think with the automated league system, you can't replace an owner. I believe that league team is linked to the gamertag. I am only assuming this, I don't know for sure. Someone who was involved in an ESPN PS2 league would have more insight, but I know in the XSN league/tourneys, you could not replace an owner with another (unless that replacement used the original owner's gamertag, which I guess is possible).

Yeah I know, but I don't want to sit here clutching my team/spot in my grubby little hands when there are so many guys who seem to really want in and can't get a spot. Let 'em take it, I'll step aside.Slumberland wrote:The only problem, Zepp, is that with a full schedule and one game a week, it could be a while before another one comes along.
Well, if that's the case. I challenge Leebo for use of the Philadelphia Eagles.Jared wrote:Actually, we can go with the "challenge" format to take care of all conflicts instead of 1st come, 1st serve. As long as the loser has a designated team to get (so that the loser doesn't get kicked out of the league), it's probably a fair matchup.
My backup was either the Vikings or the Skins.

I'm in the same ship as Zeppo, after looking at it honestly.Zeppo wrote:Yeah I know, but I don't want to sit here clutching my team/spot in my grubby little hands when there are so many guys who seem to really want in and can't get a spot. I enjoy ESPN NFL 2K5, but I'm not that good at it compared to some of you joystick jockeys. So the thought of getting my ass handed to me on a set night for 17 straight weeks is losing its appeal, after I think more about it. Do I really want to lose to Terry, 77-0? Not really. Fun is fun, but bludgeoning is not.
I know the kind of time some of you cats already have put into this game and will put into this game, and I'm not going to put in that kind of time or have the natural ability to be that competitive.
Plus I still want to keep participating in weekly TOCA and GRIT sessions, and I'd LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to get into an ESPN NHL league in a couple of months. So I really don't want every weeknight throughout the fall monopolized by gaming. Too many other things to do.
That said, I would like to hook up with you guys for random ESPN NFL games, for sure.

guys, we need to take a step back here.
As a pe teacher, during recess we have big soccer games on our esteemed dirt field.
I make it a point ot never tell a kid he can't play because we don't have room.
So sometimes we have 30 against 30 on the field....lmao
Why can't we come up with a system where everybody can play?
We can break up the league into 4, 5, or 6 mini leagues where people can have any team they want..
then a playoff can be held after the mini season is over.
lets play a 6-7 game season over 6-7 weeks.
then have a 2 week tournament to determine a champion.
Then start up another one...maybe a full one if people leave.
But Zeppo and PK , I would be sick to my stomach if you didn't play. You are bothuality people who have spent many hours playing with us DSP'rs and CG'rs in various XBOX Live games and it wouldn't be the same without you.
If people agree with this system...post here...if enough post, we will start a new thread with league details and everything.

I am game for either kind of league (or both!), but I do think your chances of people quitting go up with the number of people involved. Plus, while I think it's a cool idea to play a season over 17 weeks, that's a long time, especially if you are stuck with a bad team.
I'm not sure how the ESPN system works, but it would be cool if you had 4 8-team leagues, maybe pairing the geographic regions together (AFC/NFC South, for example) to keep some rivalries going. Then we could have the top two in each division play in an 8-team tourney.
Anyway, I'm game for any format, I'm mostly just interested in playing with the DSP brethren. Don't really care how we accomplish that.

Also, I just started a 5 week vacation today so I will have time to organize.
Give me the go ahead and I will place everybody in a mini league complete with preferred teams.
Each league will be named:
DSP East
DSP North
DSP South
DSP West
DSP Northeast
etc.
this game is to good not to have a 1 game per week league....we can complete one before ESPN Hockey comes out and Grog re-establishes his world famous Grog League.

Hey, I wanna play too! :)
Yeah I know, I've been absent from these threads for awhile.
I'd like to get in on the league action, too.
Of course, I want the 'fins...Jared says there's some kind of playoff system to determine who gets teams if more than one person wants them? I'm fine with that...
But if that's not the policy, then I guess my backup choices would be: Buccaneers, Broncos, 49ers.
If none of those work out, I guess I'm stuck with whatever crud team is left
