I defer to TheBrock and Sully... Let them in before me. I'm in pacuca's league so don't HAVE to be in this one.

I'm in. I'll be lucky to win one game, though. I always get my ass handed to me in football games, because I have no idea what anything is strategy-wise, have no idea what the difference between nickel, dime, 3-4, 4-3, etc. is, and know very little about what the positions do. I can't name a defense or offense when I see it, have no idea whether I'm staring down a pass defense, rush defense, blitz, whatever...

Anyway, I'd still like to take part.

I'll take any available team.

A possible solution is to a DSP Premier League and Division one. If ESPN leagues allow for a different number of teams in leagues we could set up two leagues. That why everybody gets in. But I also expect people to drop out as well.

I don't know we have a lot of interest in this.

Brent, we could have a Steelers versus Steelers game to decide who will use them in the DSP league, I just picked up my game tonight and will need some practice with it as I haven't played Sega's football game regularly since 2k1 on the Dreamcast.

I'm sort of fascinated by the concept of a full 32 team league complete with injuries, trades etc.

I checked out the league creation stuff, and you can set different numbers of human players, different numbers of games, from 1 to 7 days between rounds. You can set injuries and trades on and off as well. But you can only have 4, 8, or 16 teams in playoffs, not 12. Odd. And I have no clue what the scheduling will be like. You guys who played a PS2 league last year, isn't there something weird with the divisions or something?

Does someone want to trawl through this thread and come up with an updated team list, and maybe get this thing going? (looks at everyone but himself)

That would be a good way to decide. Of course after playing with the Steelers and seeing their ratings, I don't know if I want them anymore. ;)
I just got my butt handed to me by Steve-O. I had to try one of those cribs games once.

Can we post the start date and "name" of this league on ESPN's site/XBL?

I would like in. I'll take the JETS.

p.s. when will this start? there seems to be more people wanting to play, then there are teams available, so what's the protocol for deciding who gets who? anyone have any ideas for a fair way to do this?

Me im gonna be a bottom dweller so i dont care who i am i just want to learn the finer points of this great game to understand it more and am counting on you dsp'ers to teach me on the way. And not run up the score its not college :D Play like the pros.

Jimmy is sandbagging us. The bastard beat me last night in our first game with ESPN....for weeks he has been saying how he doesn't know the finer points of the game and will suck....and he beat me.

Worst thing was, his first play from scrimmage, he takes Wheatley and goes 75 yards up my Chargers gut.

The online play was absolutely brilliant though. What a game.

If you can tell from my tone, I am not used to losing to him. :D

BTW, for the league play, I think it would be really cool if we could simulate the actual NFL schedule....with 1 game per week for 17 weeks.

It would allow time to scout and play exhibitions with friends before official games, and with ESPN Hockey coming out, plus all the other great games we have already like INDY Car Series, TOCA, etc....give us time to play them as well.

I look forward to getting the crap beat out of me...my Chargers aren't very well in this game. [/quote]

Couldn't agree more ... I really like ESPN NFL, but I don't want to be consumed by the game. I like to keep the dust off all titles in my library, if possible.

Take care,

Man, I don't know how I missed this thread. I would like in as well if there is any room.

Choices would be:

Falcons
Bears
Colts
Panthers

But I am willing to take whoever is available.

OK, I'll step up. I think the simplest criteria for who gets spots is order of signup in the thread. I know that's sort of like putting your finger on your nose to get out of clearing the table at summer camp, but at least there's a clean logic to it, and I am, of course, part Vulcan.

Here is the list of the first 32 signups, teams if they've chosen one, and the alternates. If anyone from the top section plans on not participating, speak now so we can move people up from the alternates list. James_E, I just wanted to check with you before giving your spot to Sully.

I understand there may be a Steelers play-off between bdoughty and vader29 for rights to the team. That's fine, but for now bdoughty is listed wth the Texans, though I'm not sure if he was being serious.

TAGS & TEAMS

XXXIV - Rams
pk500 - Bills
dbdynasty - Dolphins
vader29 - Steelers
ScoopBrady - Bears

JRod - Broncos

Brando70 - Titans
thejake - Saints
TCrouch - Raiders

pigpen81 - Chargers
Sudz - Jags
BuckeyeBengal - Colts
Jimmydeicide - Panthers
Danimal - Packers
sportdan30 - ???

Hopefully we can get this thing rolling.

Slumber, I have to disagree. This thread started out as just asking for "interest" in a league. It never said that teams would be based on "1st come, first serve" basis. Also, couldnt we just form 2 leagues if we have more than regulation? There are some DSP "non-regulars" who are on the list and should they get priority over some "regular" posters?
I think we should get a final list of all who want to play and randomly split into 2 leagues. Maybe the winners of each league can have a ultimate Super Bowl at the end to decide the grand champion?

I'll take a spot in the league if it doesn't fill up without me. Otherwise I'm happy to play in the league at pacuca's site for now.

It might be best to downsize slightly and have two seperate leagues and then one ultimate SB. Doesn't matter to me.

Whoever is responsible for setting up this league should step up and decide if this was just an interest thread or if it is indeed first come first serve. If James is willing to let me take his spot, then I'll take the Packers if it's first come first serve.

In that people were reserving teams, I figured there was always an element of first-come first-serve. If anyone wants to defer to long-timers on the alternate list, that'd be great, but I won't pressure anyone. With only three or four current alternates, I figure at least a couple people from the main list will drop or neglect to signup, and that all the regulars will get in somehow. I wouldn't want to break it up into two leagues, because my main priority is a 32-team league. We've never had the chance to do it before, and several people have expressed their enthusiasm for such a setup.

What do people think?

32 team league with live rosters? I think you know how I feel about that.

This thread has been here for awhile and though it started as an interest thread it turned into a pick your team thread. I also don't think we should pressure alleged 'non-regulars' out of their position. There's a lot of people who are regular visitors just not regular posters. Isn't there still 4 teams available Jack? Hell, we could even do a preseason. How cool is that?

Slumber....I know u prefer a "1st come, 1st serve setup" since we both want the Jets and you posted first. But would you feel the samw way if I just happened to log on and post before you did? There's got to be a fair way? I guess whoever is going to "run" the league will have to decide. So who is running the league?

To be blunt I think it is horseshit.

Don't ask who wants to be in a league and then decide to bump a guy who has 50 posts for someone who has 500.

Out of the teams left Slumber I will take the Packers, assuming I am still in the league.
