When the hole is far away or lots of tree shadows block the view I use the X button to put the flag in the cup while on the green.

Good luck this week Mebby and welcome to the Society!
Thanks John! Looking forward to playing! I've requested to join the Society. I hope to play each week but in full disclosure I've got 5 kids and my work life can be hectic so I may not be able to play every weekend due to obvious reasons! :D

Approved your request on Sunday, hopefully it took.

It looks like it took Mark. I went in this morning and saw that his status is now "Accepted", after changing the search terms under the members tab to "Pending". He's not in the active members list because he hasn't entered a tournament yet. Hopefully the idea of playing Royce's Oakland Hills South to entice him to tee it up today :)

You're in by what I'm seeing now... welcome! I've got four kids, but only one of them is still in the house, but he's always bringing is DOTA 2 entourage into my rec room for a LAN party and disrupting the sanctity of my pastoral sports gaming environment :) Heck, I'm retired now and I'm still such a poor time manager that I wound up having to binge play my final three DSP tournament rounds Sunday night this past week.

I think you'll find that the fact that our 72 hole tournaments go from Thursday through Sunday will help a lot. I continue to forget that the TGC Tours and 4 Letter Word Society tournaments end on Saturday, and occasionally don't finish those because of it.

I've also been splitting time between TGC 2019 and RDR2! RDR2 is a HUGE time suck for me. Sometimes I do nothing more than roam around hunting, fishing and camping (and paying off bounties so that I can roam freely!).

I'll jump into the next even this week! Looking forward to it!

This helped a bit...but it's so counter-intuitive to real golf, IMO. I was instructed over and over again by my golf coach a few years back that 100% of the putts I leave short won't go in .

And when you're watching guys shoot -10 rounds every time, trying to guess that "slowdown" break, where the ball is rolling so slow that it breaks 500% harder than it would with a confident stoke, is tough to account for. The pressure is constantly on to try to make a birdie to catch up, which of course leads to double bogeys instead.

However, intentionally going easy led to more 2-putts from me last couple of rounds. But some of those greens are just ludicrous. 25 feet, 15 inches uphill? Who the F designs a green that way? And I don't know how the putter says it can go 144 feet or something, because I pull it all the way back, then decide to go about 1/4 of that for a 40 footer...and it goes 20 feet.

That's one thing I haven't ever seen mentioned, but maybe it's just me--what's with the INSANE dead zone? I see it when putting especially. I have to pull the stick about 25% back for it to even register, and then it takes a while to figure out how far back to pull it, while being immediately ready to lower the pull to try to make 5 foot putts. Frustrating to no end--I hate fighting with controls, and it just feels like I do it so often in this game.

Only couple of posts I made are complaint posts, I know, but it's like...I can feel 90% of this game is great. The other 10% just pisses me off like few other games.

Agree with this 100%. I love the game, but hate the greens some of these creators come up with. It can easily ruin very good courses. The course today being a perfect example.

Just scored my first ace ever in TGC (any version). 12th hole, 3rd round of this weekends tournament. Have played TPC Scottsdale in TGC a lot since I live in the area and work very close to it. It's paying off this weekend... Looking forward to playing the final round on Sunday.

Have set up the last couple of weekend tournaments to match the weather of the real locations so get ready for a rainy weekend at Pebble Beach, have set medium winds for Thursday and Saturday and high winds for Friday and Sunday.

Pebble Beach actual weekend forecast:

Always fun playing Pebble. Played with Vader's Ghost in round one when he shot -11. I've never seen somebody stick so many shots, even the ones you landed short rolled to within 10 feet.

I wish they would patch in the new rule you can leave the flag stick in. Honestly it is the only new rule that would affect this game since it had no concept of hazard lines or realistic drops but I'd love for it default to leaving the stick in and then let us hit X to pull it out.

Yeah, that was a fun tournament. I'd forgotten how faithful a rendition of Pebble Beach this course is. I blew my stack on the 13th hole in round 4 and walked away with an "11" Still had a great time playing. Vader's 61 in round 1 was sick! I'd be in favor of a patch to implement the new flag stick rule... it would work in this game for sure.

One thing I noticed while playing today's round at Bellerive 2018 is that when the green textures look as grainy (not in a bad way mind you) as these do, my brain connects that with "slow". These greens are anything but slow on this course! I had a number of 3-putts in today's round because I hit the first putt too hard, convinced by sight that the greens were slow. I finally talked myself out of it on the back 9, but it made of an interesting mental challenge. The course looks and plays great!

Out of town again for the next three days, shoot it straight boys.

Vader can shoot 61 at times because there a thing called ‘the Vader bounce’. 8)

A tremendous bargain in either case! Even though my skills for this game have been declining over the last 3 months, I'm enjoying this game now more than ever. The putting game is what's giving me fits during this decline. I have way too many 3 and sometimes even 4-putt greens for a player who hits so many greens in regulation.

The main reason this game stays so fresh for me is the continuing quality and volume of user made courses, especially the real life recreations. There must be at least two hundred user made courses that are commercial quality... it's incredible!

They were. You know you’re in tough when you’re celebrating pars as if they were birdies. Even par 5s were difficult and in between. Tough conditions on a difficult course for sure.

The greens were ridiculous, it made a challenging course in those conditions worse. The breaks were inconsistent and quite a few were right at the hole, I only finished because I didn't want to quit but there were only 4 people who finished when I was done which means a lot of people were busy or said f*** it. :D

No doubt. I was more ecstatic about my 65 in the 3rd than any other round I've ever had. Then of course followed it up with a dud 76.

I dug the difficult layout of the course with the long woods to the greens on par 4s and the slopes of the fairways. Definitely put an emphasis on accurate shots all around. But unfortunately the greens dampened the experience as they were a little over the top.

Nice win 10s!

J. Cauthen awoke at 3:45 AM, EST on 2/18/19, with his controller resting on his knees. I finished round 3, had a dutiful chat with the spouse, along with a glass of wine... and then slipped blissfully into the arms of Morpheus  I'd already played myself out of the tournament in round 3, when I mistakenly tee'd off with Master clubs, which I can't play competitively with anymore. I still like to play online matchmaking with Pro clubs, even though my winning percentage is only like 30% with them, and I occasionally forget to change back to Pro clubs, when competing in Society events.

I really struggled so far playing Links at St Andrews. John, what happened to Mexico? 8) I really want to blame my controller as I start with a slow and finish with a fast swing. At times if anyone follows my ghost it starts with a very slow swing slicing the ball to the extreme right. So frustrated that I was tempted to go back to beginners club but I won’t do that as agreed by everyone.

Will grind it out to the last round but I have no feel, no tempo whatsoever this weekend.
