Just played the daily tourney and saw Vader was playing it at the same time so put him on and he catches up to me on a hole and hits a hole in one.

Oh my dog tends to scare the heck out of me instead when she jumps up out of nowhere as I prepare for a swing or putt. Yeah Eevee has caused me a few strokes every week.Leadfoot5 wrote:^^^^ This! So many times!!!JOZ wrote:Sure scared the dog when I missed that last one

Now, I am not sure if there was another update, maybe it’s the servers or just my controller again. Remember a month ago when some were complaining about the swing not going straight playing on Pro clubs?
I’ve been struggling to find a perfect/perfect swing lately, in fact even when I do, the swing path is not as straight as I hope it would be. Still playing with pro clubs...
Re: The Golf Club 2019
Mostly just frustration talking as I'm sure it's just me. But those short putts with break kill me. I bet putts inside of 7 feet with considerable break have led to just as many 3 putts as 40 footers. Probably a matter of trying to be too careful then next time overcompensating and smashing it.JOZ wrote:F&$k me. The putting on this game sometimes is a joke.
Already missed 2 from inside 7 feet to cause a couple bogeys. Then had a putt from 4 feet to tie 10spro and it went left for no reason at all.
What is the deal with the putts inside of 7 or so feet on this game? Seems like certain times the ball just takes off random directions or speeds.
Sure scared the dog when I missed that last one

Try switching controllers, it's amazing how this fixed the out of whackness for me on more than one occasion.10spro wrote: I’ve been struggling to find a perfect/perfect swing lately, in fact even when I do, the swing path is not as straight as I hope it would be. Still playing with pro clubs...
Playing with some people's ghosts lately I think they hit perfect / perfect straight shots 99% of the time. Some of the ghosts on the official societies... Just by sheer probabilities people should occasionally spray a shot and some ghosts never and I mean never hit the ball anywhere but straight.
By far the biggest difference between my game and the ghost of people who shoot top score is this. I have been in situations where my ball and the ghost ball are literally a foot apart. I hit into the green and it hits and rolls through, ghost hits into the green and the ball sticks like it is in glue. These type of things I just don't get, I assume it must be some setting with the loft but I can't figure it out.
In last weeks tourney my drive was right next to someones ghost on pretty much every hole. Every approach shot I was putting 15-20 footers and they were putting 3-5 footers. Most of the time are balls hit the green generally in the same area. I shot a -5, they were minus double digits. Just makes me scratch my head and go hmm.

Hey All,
I've not bought this yet and with winter here in full force, my desire for some virtual golf has increased. In it's current form is this a worth upgrading from TGC2 for the occasional round of golf?
Thanks.

Re: The Golf Club 2019
As a gamer with average skills, it is for me. I find the swing interface of TGC 2019 requires more input parameter control on the part of the player than TGC 2. There's a requirement for tempo control in TGC 2019 that wasn't in TGC 2. You have to have a certain backswing speed paired with a certain downswing speed to get the desired result.FifaInspected wrote:Hey All,

Where the tempo dependent swing mechanic breaks from conventional physics is that imbalanced tempo has more of an effect on the draw/hook, fade/slice of the shot than the distance though. It takes a while to wrap your senses around that, but once you do, it's possible to adapt. The swing path that used to account for the fades and the draws now determines pushes and pulls only. What I like about it is that it allows for compound errors that lead to more lifelike mis-hits. It's possible to hit a push draw or a pull fade in this game.
My scoring average is higher in TGC 2019 than it was in TGC 2, even when I'm using the medium difficulty (Pro) clubs, but again I emphasize, I'm an average gamer who's golf gaming skills have been in decline since last November, for whatever reasons. All that being said, I'm very happy with the game as it stands, but I also recognize it still has a lot of room for improvement.

I love TGC19 waaaay more than TGC2. I’ve been playing really well in society tournaments of late. I think I won the last daily and I threw up a great first round at the Farmers last night.

I think the biggest problem I have with TGC2019 is that it feels completely unpredictable to me. Specifically on the greens and short game.
The normal shots aren't a problem. I get the random slow or fast tempo and screw the shot up. But around the hole...I see grid breaking lines going a specific pace. I make a mental checklist that "this much movement = compensate this much". Then it breaks a lot more.
Next hole, get the same movement....compensate, and the thing doesn't even move. It's like from hole to hole, the breaking lines mean completely different things. Some holes I'll 1-putt, but no matter what, I'll have a 3 or 4 putt hole EVERY round (sometimes more) simply because I either can't understand what the breaking lines are telling me, or they're not consistent enough for me to get a baseline. Add to that, some of these courses have holes that seem to be on a hill, or a crazy slope where you either drill it dead center, or we're looking at a minigolf-style roll off the green.
I was trying the tournaments while I was unable to post for a month (account on DSP was inactive), but got so frustrated with the inability to get any information on why it does what it does that I just moved on.

Re: The Golf Club 2019
Okay, I hear you and what you are describing here is not an isolated opinion. The grid lines don't always accurately depict the slope, and they are especially bad about not showing the degree of downhill slope past the hole. I have two or three 3-putt greens a round because I've underestimated the amount of downhill slope and run the ball 15 feet past the hole, or more. It's compounded by the fact that most designers go with fast or med-fast green speed.TCrouch wrote: To a point, yeah.

The only counter-measure I can suggest is to err on leaving your putts short. Even with that strategy in mind, I still rarely leave a putt short on fast, or med-fast greens.
There are too many courses with bad pin placements, but when you find a course that has reasonable pin placements, yet still presents a challenge, it's a thing of beauty.
Thanks for taking the time to detail your position on this... believe me, I understand it.
Re: The Golf Club 2019
You go through peaks and valleys in this game, there are times where you have no clue how you sank a rather ondulated downhill green with all kinds of breaks 28’ feet away, and the following week you miss the easiest 5’ putt that had no breaks. Knowing that and seeing a good DSP society involved is what keeps bringing me back to action, even with my totally out of whack tempos for the past 12 days or so.
Re: The Golf Club 2019
You guys are spot on. The unpredictable nature of the greens and the peaks and valleys game play is what I love about it. I like the fact that I can tear up the front nine on a round then all the sudden lose my swing and struggle. I like the fact (maybe not at that moment) that I miss a 8 foot putt that shows a break but never really seems to. How many times when watching golf does a guy miss a putt and the look on his face after is of shock or confusion because it didn't break the way they thought? The game gives me the feeling of a PGA player throughout. I don't shoot low 60s every round and I don't shoot upper 80s every round. It gives me exactly what I want in a golf game. It's probably why I have spent more time playing this than any other game this generation by far, and I haven't been golfing but 1 time in like 5+ years.
The only real issue I have is with many of the created courses where they designer decided to go crazy with breaks and elevations in the greens. Way too "putt-putt" for my taste.

I'd like to introduce a new DSP Society member to the fold. turnerm05 (known better as "Mebby" on the HB Studios forum) has just had his registration approved here in the forum and is planning to play this week's even at Torrey Pines. Mebby prefers to play with Master clubs and no assists, but I told him that he's free to do that in our Society. Even handicapping himself like that, he still plays competitively.
Good luck this week Mebby and welcome to the Society!

You son of a gun... you almost holed your approach on the first hole of round 1 in this tournament! I was playing with your and Diablo's ghost in round 1 for a few holes and I thought sure you'd holed it. I know it came to rest less than 2 inches from the cup!JOZ wrote:You guys are spot on. Yep, I thought so too
You also got to see my ball rolling down the left side of the mountain on that stupid par 3

Re: The Golf Club 2019
I know I'm the only one who complains about this and maybe it is my 4K TV and HDR but sometimes it is literally impossible to see the hole when putting. I have bad eyes but I was playing round 1 yesterday I think I 5 putted a hole because I couldn't see it with the shadows.
Then later in the round no shadows I can't see the hole. My 14 year old daughter with perfect visions is watching. I said can you see the hole, she said nope. This was on a 15 foot putt and it happened on 3 or 4 of the hole. I'm not sure what the issue is like I said no one else ever mentions it.

Re: The Golf Club 2019
Happens to me all the time, but I just used Y to do the "hole view" or whatever they call it. It's pretty good at showing me where it is as it zooms out and up.
Re: The Golf Club 2019
I just go to the high camera angle when putting. I gauge my putt distance with my backswing and its easier to see both the hole and the backswing in that camera.
