Re: The Golf Club 2019
I just finished playing the first round at Sweden and I am not seeing the inconsistent tempo swings I was having on Pros clubs before the patch at least not as often. In other words if I had a perfect/perfect tempo the ball flight path was pretty straight forward without me guessing and hoping the direction was correct.
Also, I found my short game steadier too as I was having problems lately dialing the ball within 10 ft. We’ll see how the next three rounds play, again I do have wonky sticks to begin with so the patch made me feel as if I was swinging it where I wanted to instead of not knowing.

Re: The Golf Club 2019
Only issue I had were animation glitches in putting led me to a triple bogey in round 1. Very odd don't know if its the course or what but it happened a bunch of times.

Re: The Golf Club 2019
Yeah, I left a lot of birdies on the table too, we are talking within 5-6 ft range too, saw the odd hiccup while putting for sure.
Re: The Golf Club 2019
I've come to realize that one skill required to play this game well is to be able to recognize when there's an anomaly in the animation, and aborting your swing before carrying it through when that happens. More often than not, an animation irregularity is going to result in a tempo error that's not all of your own doing. I'm finding this to still be true post patch, but it seems to be happening with a lesser frequency.

Re: The Golf Club 2019
Well I'm through 3 rounds, the first 2 rounds I was under par but then this glitches got me in round 1. In round 2 the greens did. if you get on the right side of the whole you've got a birdie. Wrong side of hole and you make a mistake well let's just say I was putting for birdie more than once and ended up with doubles. The greens are very challenging but not in a cheap way.
Round 3 though, 23+ mph winds. It took all I had to finish this round, I think I shout a +8 in that round.
All that said tempo seems back to normal, sand shots are better. I just seem to be seeing more animation glitches then before but as John said I just stop when I notice them. They are just a little harder to notice on a putt then a swing.

Tempo on Drivers and iron shots has definitely improved, would like to see more spin on flop shots. That third round man, it was tough to face that strong wind.
Re: The Golf Club 2019
Guys, today's Daily tournament is being played at Case Verde (Beta), a course created by the Arctic Fury of Perfect Golf, Matt Rose. This is Matt's first course he's created for TGC 2019. He just picked up the game a few weeks back during the Black Friday sale and published this one as a beta... (BTW, it's an impeccable creation and doesn't need to be tagged beta).
I was stunned at how naturally beautiful this course is and how well it plays. It carves out its on classification; I can't find another TGC 2019 that stacks up to this one in purely convincing, natural beauty. There are plenty of other courses that offer more eye candy than Casa Verde, but they fall well short of this one in their naturalness.
If I get some ayes on this one, I'd like to offer it up later as a 72 holer, maybe after Matt releases the "final" version of the course, which I can't imagine how it could be that much better. Check this one out and see what you think!
Another point I'd like disclose about my profile, I shot a 64 on this course with Master clubs, but it was because I was putting lights out (for a rare change!). I'm playing miserably over the last month, overall, as my scores in that time frame will attest. I'm playing in a no-assist society now as well, and I couldn't break 80 playing with Master clubs. I switched to Pro clubs today for that tournament round and broke par for my first time ever with a 71. It was mostly because I'm able to manage the tempo so much better with Pro clubs versus Master clubs. I'm switching back to Pro clubs for the forseeable future, until I get my feel for tempo back.
There's no restrictions on club sets in our society and I'm completely fine with that. When I'm playing well I do enjoy the unbridled feel of the Master clubs, as they deliver the most dynamic play experience, but when I'm hitting my tempo only 10 to 15% of the time with them, it turns it into an exercise of frustration. The Pro club set felt good to me this morning in no assist play, and I expect they'll cure some of what's been turning me into John Daley-esque slap-shot eruption here lately.

Re: The Golf Club 2019
There was another update today, do you know what’s the latest John?
Re: The Golf Club 2019
Yes, it's a small change to fix a bug I'd never seen occur in my play... here's what Shaun West said about it:10spro wrote:There was another update today, do you know what’s the latest John?
Another patch will be rolling out tomorrow morning/afternoon depending on timezones which will address the issue of being placed on the course rather than a tee on some holes.
Thank you for identifying the issue and your patience while we investigated the issue.
Have any of you seen this happen? It seems like a lot of trouble to issue a patch to fix just one item, when there are numerous others that need attention.

Small change? It was almost a 6 Gig patch.J_Cauthen wrote:Yes, it's a small change to fix a bug
I played 2 rounds this morning to try the course I missed yesterday (it was great) and round 1 of the weekend.
My shots swing paths and tempos are back to doing weird s***. I didn't have a single straight line in those two rounds on path when I've played since the last patch with 90% of my shots being straight. I had termpo's all over the place, I purposely would they to get a slow tempo and get a very fast. I would take the quickest swing possible and I would get a very slow.
I give up, these guys can't leave well enough alone and clearly have no idea how to test their own game. Too much other good stuff to play, enjoy the virtual links I will stick to my trackman.

Re: The Golf Club 2019
That was all they advertised that they changed. People asked about why the 6 Gig size and Shaun West responded with the comment that XBox One patches require a full reinstall to take effect. I don't know that this is a change, or maybe something to do with the newest Unity engine that requires this on the XBox One. The PC and PS4 files sizes were considerably smaller in size.Danimal wrote:Small change? It was almost a 6 Gig patch.J_Cauthen wrote:Yes, it's a small change to fix a bug
I'm having an experience this morning that helps me relate to what you're saying. I got a new XBox One X yesterday morning to replace the OG XBox One I've got in the living room. I still have a 2014 vintage, Sharp 1080p edge lit LED HDTV in the living room (until tomorrow anyway!I played 2 rounds this morning to try the course I missed yesterday (it was great) and round 1 of the weekend.

I then connected my XBox One X and got all the required updates. The first game I transferred from my rec room X was TGC 2019. I couldn't get over how much better TGC 2019 looked via the X, even though it was on the same crappy Sharp 1080p HDTV. The muddy textures, especially for the trees, cleaned up remarkably!
OTOH, the frame rate felt no different, and perhaps not as good as my X on the 4K TCL in my rec room. Of course my Sharp doesn't have a game mode and who knows what the input latency is on that set, but the swing lacked feel and responsiveness. I used the controller that came with the X and it felt really stiff compared to my Elite controller. I pulled all of my putts and was a three putt machine. Most of my tempos were slow/perfect. I had to fight to get a perfect/perfect and never could get even get a fast tempo on the backswing or downswing.
I'm coming away with the conclusion that this game plays considerably different depending on what console, what controller, and which display you're using. I'm curious now to see how differently this game will play in my living room tomorrow, after I get it connected and set up with my new 65" TCL Series 6 HDTV, where I'll be able to utilize that magical 17ms input lag via its Game mode. I'll also be interested in comparing results between the new X's stock controller, and my Elite controller.
Re: The Golf Club 2019
No issues here using pro clubs. Best golf game I have ever played, whether it was on my original Xbox one or the X.
There are times when I struggle and eventually make some kind of adjustment with my stick movement. Sometimes I turn things around, sometimes not. Then there are times I am lighting it up. It seems like real golf for a pro to me, which is what I was looking for.

I experience the same thing you're describing JOZ. I have long overall slumps, punctuated with an occasionally brilliant round here over the last two months, but overall, I'm in a two month slump. I'm back to playing with Pro clubs now to try to feel the game out again. I like the up and down nature I have with the game as it does mimic my real life play.JOZ wrote:No issues here using pro clubs. Re: The Golf Club 2019
This week's DSP Society 72 hole tournament is at Congressional CC. It's getting really high marks from TGC 2019 players across all platforms. I haven't played it yet, but I did play the TGC 2 version from the same designer and thought it was outstanding.
On another note, I learned that Matt Rose has now published the final version of Casa Verde. He's added a little slope to the greens (I thought the beta versions were a bit too flat, thus the low scoring we're seeing, as in 10spro's -14 he posted there yesterday!
) and has done some things to the water to make it look even more realistic. I'd like to make it next week's 72 hole tournament, but wanted to get some feedback from you guys before doing so... IOW, I'm not sure you want to see the same course again, that soon.
I also want to make sure everyone knows that I change the course conditions for the final three rounds of play in a 72 hole tournament. I always go "default" in the first round, so everyone can play the course in the conditions the designer favored. My thinking is that it mixes things up a bit and the course can be seen and played in a variety of conditions that will help keep it from becoming stale. Therefore, it pays to check the conditions at the start of each round to factor in as you play.

Re: The Golf Club 2019
Thanks for that info, I wasn't aware of that. It explains why even on the PS4 where every patch for NBA Live 19 whether it's large or small is anywhere from 7-12GB. And when I look at the storage area if it's downloading a rather small patch say, less than a GIG it still shows the entire size of all the patches.J_Cauthen wrote:That was all they advertised that they changed. That info helps explain a very frustrating feature of the current Gen consoles when games require a patch.
Re: The Golf Club 2019
I enjoyed the course John. First time I shot a 58 helped by a couple of eagle approaches and I have been putting well lately. Got lucky but as you well know in the game we all go thru ups and downs and I know my downs will be up next...J_Cauthen wrote: He's added a little slope to the greens (I thought the beta versions were a bit too flat, thus the low scoring we're seeing, as in 10spro's -14 he posted there yesterday!) and has done some things to the water to make it look even more realistic. Thanks for keeping the DSP community alive again. Great idea on the conditions affecting different rounds. I am all for it, and I assume the location of the flags too. Keep up the great work.J_Cauthen wrote:I also want to make sure everyone knows that I change the course conditions for the final three rounds of play in a 72 hole tournament. Re: The Golf Club 2019
Yeah, each round has its own pin positions. I just go with the designers 1,2,3 and 4 pin placements for rounds 1,2,3, and 4.10spro wrote:Thanks for keeping the DSP community alive again. Oh, I had to double bogey and a bogey in my round of -8 at Casa Verde, so I could have gotten into double digits under par if I hadn't tried to get too cute on a couple of approaches... one that wound up in the drink on a par three. That would have looked a little better on the leaderboard

Re: The Golf Club 2019
Just played the first round at Congressional and what a difference a day makes. Barely scratched Even, couldn’t buy a birdie, was struggling just to make my Pars. Challenging course.

There are no password requirements for DSP, although we do ask that you join our forum here so folks will know who your are. Another member of the HB Studios forum, Mebby, has expressed an interest in the DSP society now that he has picked up an XBox One X. He said that when he registered for the forum, he was asked a series of sports related questions, like what's Dan Mario's jersey number added to the last year the Cubs won the World Series. He answered 16+13 for 29. Maybe it wanted 2016+13 or 2029? He said he was told he failed and would have to try again later. Does that sound like anything anyone else has had to do to joinJOZ wrote:Thanks for the invite! I am now waiting for the request to be granted I guess. JOZ, you're in so go ahead and join the fray at Congressional... it's a tightly bunched field right now! You can use whatever clubset you prefer, although the majority seem to be playing Pro clubs right now. I just dropped back to Pro clubs after my game started tanking. I hope to rehabilitate myself back to Master clubs though. We always play the tournaments from the tournament tees to balance out the Pro versus Master advantages.
