Tiger Woods 2005 anyone?
I know it's football buzz time, but just wondering if anyone was looking forward to this game. The info is starting to trickle out, with movies at gamespot, though it is still a bit limited....
14 courses in all --- only 3 carryover from last year
Improved game face -- more sliders and texture options for face
Legends included --- Nicklaus, Palmer, Ballesteros, Player all in there, with a special game mode as well
Tiger proofing --- a pretty slick looking interface lets you modify the courses to make them tougher (quickly shrink fairways, deepen rough and bunkers, shrink greens, etc..)
Have to say, nothing sounds groundbreaking here, and I can't say I'm overly exciting about their big 'tiger proofing' feature. The less hyped features -- improved difficulty settings for online play and better season/career modes would be more to my liking. Graphics do look a bit better, and I do hope there is more variety and character to the textures this year than last.
Any thoughts? Btw, bigbertha, you still involved with the game? If so, when does your NDA expire and you can fill us in?

I think Tiger-proofing is the best feature you mentioned. I would love the chance to make greens tougher, roughs deeper, fairways more narrow.
I had ZERO interest in this game until I read about that feature, especially if you can save your Tiger-proofed courses to the Xbox hard drive for later or online use.
Let's hope the putting interface is more challenging, much like Links 2004.
Take care,
PK

Let's hope they don't break anything in the process... Tiger Woods 2004 was probably one of the funnest and most addictive games I've played all year. Nothing like doing the robot on the green after you just beat your friend with a long putt...
My biggest problem that I hoped to see addressed is the cheating ass CPU. If Tiger knocks one in from 50 yards out from the sand ONE more time I swear I'm gonna...

Yeah, I probably should've mentioned I'm all about the PC version myself -- I've never even tried the console versions. The PC version was plenty hard for me as it is, as I usually end up playing on the second most difficult level. I suppose the tiger-proofing feature is more attractive to the console folks where apparently the game is far too easy.dbdynsty25 wrote:As long as they release it for the PC, I'm gonna buy it. The PC version is FAR superior to the console version. At least in the past 3 iterations.
I am very much looking forward to this title, especially with no new version of Links on the horizon. I just started playing TW04 for PC again and am having a lot of fun with the career mode. If you can make the courses tougher, than that would go a long way towards helping the console versions. I really love the analog swing in Links and wish they could combine the best features of Links & TW into one great game.

Yeah...I love the PC version but if there's truly "everything" in the game, they'll add the damn gap wedge that I've been complaining about for years. Come on...I've got one in my bag, why not have it in the game...
The other thing I always complain about when it happens is that the game doesn't allow you to stand in water...for instance, there are many courses that have small streams or burns that a player in real life could stand in and take a shot from if their ball was still playable. It would be nice to be able to do this in the game.
It would also be nice to add a few other things, though mostly cosmetic, such as long and belly putters. What would truly rock is if they had a club editor to be able to design your own clubs without having to do the super, around the back, complicated method that the current modders use. I think it would help to be able to really put yourself into the game. For those of us that play golf in real life, there is definitely a large "brand-name" thing in golf...what brand driver and irons you have in the bag and all.
The last thing I'd like is along with game-face, they should allow you to enter average distances for each club for a given player. This way, I could play on a higher difficulty level with my real-life abilities, as opposed to being able to bomb 300 yard drives just because I'm playing on Master level or something.
Anyways...longer rant than I'd intended...

You may get your wish. From EA Sports game feature list of TW 2005 (console):bdoughty wrote:I am buying both but they really need to change the putting in the console version. For the love of all things round and made of dough, make the backswing and impact afffect the straightness of the putt.
Total Precision Swing: New putting and chipping systems allow for more control on the green or when you leave an approach shot short.
I'm with you on the impact this had on my enjoyment of last year's game. I enjoyed the game up to the point where I had to chip or putt. There was no feel in the stroke whatsoever. I'm hoping this Total Precision Control answers our beefs about this breakdown. As a matter of fact, the interface for every shot type could use some proportional control help. I found it extremely hard to hit 80-90% shots in the console versions of 2004.
Links 2004 is better in the proportional control arena, especially on the greens (where TW 2004 was totally non-proportional), but where Links 2004 really surpassed TW 2004 (and in this aspect I'll include the PC version of TW 2004) was tempo modeling. A smooth, tempoed swing yielded better results than a frantic twitch. There was even a slight hint of the governance of inertia in the interface.
All things considered, I'm more interested in TW 2005 (XBox) than I have been in the previous two years, primarily because of the potential for Total Precision Control. The Tiger Proofing feature could be interesting, but I have a fear it could be overdone. There's nothing I hate more than playing an over-the-top, circus type golf course. This will be hard to regulate, but I'll give it a chance.

John,
I think there was a video at teamxbox showing off Tiger proofing. It has different degrees so that's a good start. It doesn't start at silly and end at ridiculous. Everything from rough height, bucker depth, wind, green speed and firmness. Mow patterns and feairway size are also in there. This has me sold on the game.

Apprecaite the info as I missed that. Of course while Total Precision Control sounds good I would also like a little less precision off the tee. I like the Tiger Proofing aspect simply for the option of changing the courses up for myself in single player. I will probably have one or two (links-esque Devils Island courses) just for the extreme challenge.
Is there a new Links coming out? I know MS shelved most of their sports development, but I thought that 'lesser' sports franchises like Links, Amped etc. were not affected.
I'd love a Links '05, but I guess I'll settle fir Tiger if that's all that's available.

I have Hot Shots 3 and I found it okay. It's a little bit too cartoonish and cute, but it was worth the $19.95 I paid for it. I think the click meter turned me off before the cartoon excesses did though. I'll have to do some research into Hot Shots Fore.Parker wrote:As far as console golf goes, Tiger will eat Hot Shots Golf Fore!'s dust. Of course, you will need a ps2.
