Re: The IPhone is totally awesome oh my gawd thread
I use my iPad Pro 9.7 everyday. Ever since I changed jobs to where I work from home my MacBook Pro has collected dust. I use my main PC gaming rig and my iPad. That's it. I might as well just sell my laptop at this point. Probably have used it about three times since July.
I have almost zero interest in a convertible device because the tablet form is always too big and heavy compared to dedicated devices.

The 9.7 IPad Pro is the perfect size for my needs. From YouTube to emails to regular browsing it does everything I need. The original bigger size was just too large for my taste and I won't be upgrading anytime soon.
Now, regarding the upcoming iPhone 8, that's a different story, I will take the plunge from my current 6. Hope they come up with an OLED display...

Re: The IPhone is totally awesome oh my gawd thread
They may use OLED, if they can get enough volumes of screens. But OLED still may consume more battery than an LCD for anything other than playing videos.
The other thing OLED may do is allow thinner designs with thinner bezels.
That's the rumored direction of the Galaxy S8, a slab which will be mostly screen.
My iPhone 6S Plus has a bigger footprint than other phones with comparable-sized screens. But unless they can reduce the footprint enough that I could use it one-handed with the same screen size, I don't see the benefit of a smaller bezel, other than the initial look.
I'd rather see OLED on iPads, since watching videos on it makes more sense.

Re: The IPhone is totally awesome oh my gawd thread
My iPhone X showed a preorder delivery for Nov 27th, not too shabby considering that there’s been talk of about 6 to 8 weeks wait for preorders and in some cases, nothing until early 2018.
Driving my kids to school early today, I saw lineups I haven’t seen in an Apple store in awhile.
One of the features I was a bit conservative about was the new face scan, and from what I’ve heard and read so far, it works like a charm.
One of my buddies was telling me that the 256GB model was already sold out in stores and lucky if your turn comes up for the 64GB version.
Look forward to my upgrade from the iPhone 6.

Re: The IPhone is totally awesome oh my gawd thread
My wife cracked her galaxy s8. I walked into T-mobile today and got her a 64gb iPhone X and a 38mm pink apple watch series 3 I think it's called. Gotta say I am pretty impressed. The X is too small in my hand, but I would have definitely bought one if they made a Plus. That is apparently coming next year.
Apple watch is just SO far ahead of the best Android watch, the gear s3. I think I'm going to become an apple rube. There is a 256gb 8plus brand new on swappa for $860. I'm doing my best to avoid it, since my s8+ is perfect and I'd have to sell the 8 plus next year anyways.

I'm hoping 64gb is enough. They didn't have any 256gb, and that price is silly. We're used to android with micro SD cards. How do you make do with 64gb? Cloud or some kind of storage? I should know this, but I've never had to worry about space.
Re: The IPhone is totally awesome oh my gawd thread
I got my X 256GB version last week. Very impressed, all this talk about the lack of the home button and it took me just a day to forget everything about that button. Very responsive, beautiful OLED screen that will be partly covered by a cover. Hate covers, but for the price of the X, you just gotta protect both sides eventually. And that notch, not an issue either with me.
Now if some Apps can start getting their act together to cover all the screen. Just a beautiful phone, but damn expensive.

Is Google photos and icloud storage sufficient for my wife? What drove you to get 256 instead of 64?10spro wrote:I got my X 256GB version last week. The ability to record in 4K, watch streams in high quality, download media, I got lots of music, apps etc.
Photos should cover a 64GB model, more than enough.
I don’t know I don’t need all that space really, if they had a 128GB model I would have been more than happy with that too. But with iOS installed already you already have what, 58GB left?
Forgot to mention that Face ID works like a charm too. Much better than touch control.
My old iPhone was a 6, I just thought it was time to upgrade.

Good deal. I can't help but think Apple is doing a cash grab with some of their tactics:10spro wrote:The ability to record in 4K, watch streams in high quality, download media, I got lots of music, apps etc.

Fast charger is an additional $75
No memory card option - More people go 256gb or buy cloud storage
I am a bit concerned that I've read Apple won't cover burn in. Is this accurate? Burn in happens sometimes. I'm pretty sure Samsung is good about replacing phones with burn in.
All in all, my wife and I LOVE her X and Apple watch series 3. I wish so much that the Apple watch was compatible with Android. I think we are Apple people now...

Easy. Use Google Photos to store all photos and videos in the cloud, with unlimited space. Use streaming music services, with minimal offline downloads to your phone. Only keep the apps you need or use. Be merciless in your trimming of all excess storage usage. Your phone will run faster, too.fletcher21 wrote:I'm hoping 64gb is enough. I have a 64GB iPhone 6s with 53 apps, including native Apple apps, and it still has about 40 GB of free space. I have zero photos or videos stored locally and only two or three albums downloaded from Google Play Music. Everything else is in the cloud or streamed. I don't save text strings that are more than a week old. I delete old voicemails every few weeks. Etc., etc.
It's simple to stretch 64GB like elastic. I'm starting to scratch my head at anyone who b*tches about small onboard storage when nearly everything these days can be stored and accessed from the cloud almost immediately, either for cheap prices or -- better yet -- free. Yes, there are exceptions, such as photographers or graphic artists. But the vast majority of people can save a sh*t ton of space by using the cloud.
Highly unlikely I'll ever buy a MacBook again with more than a 128GB SSD. That's what we have now for our family machine, and it's not even close to being filled due to cloud storage.

Thanks Paul! I'm really into this phone and think Apple is really great. The cheapskate in me is yelling no, but my heart is telling me to buy than 256gb 8+ on swappa for $860. It seems like Apple phones hold their value like a Subaru in Colorado..A top of the line Android is available for hundreds off after only a few months.pk500 wrote:Easy. Go with the storage amount that pleases and comforts you, man. If you're cool with 256 GB, then let it rip. Just understand you can stretch onboard storage far more than you might think, with little fuss.
Welcome to Apple world. I was a MASSIVE Apple skeptic before I got my first iPhone and MacBook Air in early 2014. Now I'll never go back.

I know I'm going to Apple, but I also know if I buy an 8 plus I will sell it next September when the X Plus drops. Not sure if it's worth taking a loss on it when I have a mint condition galaxy s8+. If I could pair the Apple watch with my galaxy I would be content waiting til next year, but I'm craving that series 3 Apple watch like a crackhead.pk500 wrote:Go with the storage amount that pleases and comforts you, man. After only 24 hours my wife is so shocked how much better iPhones work. I have heard ios 11 is a buggy mess, but we haven't seen anything negative at all besides the cost of entry.
Re: The IPhone is totally awesome oh my gawd thread
I have a 64 GB 8 Plus with about 25-30 GB free space.
I usually just take pictures and videos on trips and I sync it back to my photo library on my computer and delete them off my phone.
On occasion, I would buy the lowest tier of iCloud storage for $1.99 for a single month and then go back to the 5 GB free tier. Only thing I really keep up there are backups of my iPhone. I have a couple of other iOS devices but those, I back up on my iMac, to avoid paying for more storage.
I haven't really looked into Google Photos but IIRC, they have some restrictions or claims to rights to the pictures you upload there. In any event, my DSLR pictures end up on my computer so I mix in the iPhone photos, which are usually panoramas or videos, with them.
I also bought an iPad Pro with cellular and 256 GB for like $849 back in August, a discount of about $80 at the time. Otherwise, I would have gone for the 64 GB if they had as big a discount. Of course on BF, they sell the 64 GB for $130 less, though it was a Wifi model.
I inherited a Series 2 Watch. I wanted to use Nike Run Club app. for workouts but for some reason, I can't turn on Motion and Fitness for the app. so I can't use it to setup the Watch app. Haven't worked out with it yet.

4k video is a highly touted feature, but the iPhone can't even render in 4k so where do people view 4k video they have taken? Does the 8 plus offer hdr?wco81 wrote:I have a 64 GB 8 Plus with about 25-30 GB free space.

Sold my s8+ plus and my fitness watch and got an iPhone 8 plus and a 42mm watch. Space gray for both. I went with the 64gb option and feel good about it.
I'll miss Android, but I'm completely loving the Apple life right now. Apple watch is as good as it gets. The phone has a nice weight and size to it.
Do you guys suggest a screen protector for an Apple watch?

Magpul makes the cases for bullet cartridges for the U.S. military. These cases have same design. Unreal grip and protection in a very minimal form. Fits the phone perfectly, too. You can't do better for $13.

Thanks Paul! I ordered it to go with the spigen case I already have. I'm loving IOS, and everyone says IOS 11 is the most buggy version yet. I have yet to see any and neither has my wife. It's clear most apps are made for IOS and ported to Android. A $500 Android phone is competent. No $500 new iPhone
Micro sd card option for people who have tons of content
Fast charging is included in the box
Customization for days
Micro usb/ usb type c charging standard
I'm going to need to order some more chargers. Potentially a battery case. I have yet to drain the battery, but I've read that the included charger and cable take 2.5 - 3 hours. My galaxy phones demolished that. One plus phones are rated for something like 2% per minute lol. All in all, I'm happy to be on an iPhone and realize the pros far outweigh the cons.
