Boys:

I think it´s pretty safe to say that most of us in here are rock-and-rollers or rappers when it comes to our musical preference. My musical preferences are split down the middle between rock and classic jazz, for example.

But each of us probably has one pop group that deep down we really enjoy.

Mine: The Corrs.

I dig the Irish-pop mix as I´m Irish, and I think the Corr clan writes good, catchy pop tunes with solid musicianship. Plus it doesn´t hurt that Andrea Corr is f*cking gorgeous. The other sisters are hot, too.

What´s the one pop group you like?

Take care,

Dude, pop music is nothing to be afraid of.

Fountains of Wayne is an awesome, awesome power pop band. Their new CD "Welcome Interstate Managers" is chock full of insanely catchy three minute tunes that suck you in and won´t let go, hours after turning off the stereo.

I guess if I had a dirty secret, it would be that I really really dig Justin Timberlake´s song "Rock Your Body." Dig that funky-ass bassline!
but really, this is 2004, and nearly everything is considered to be gay now

I´ve been digging the indie and post-punk stuff lately so I haven´t listened to radio much but I was forced to the other day driving around my dad´s truck and I was certainly amused by the 50 Cent P.I.M.P. song. Ha! It has steel drums, and one of the stupidest hooks, but it does get stuck in your head. There´s also a pop rock band from here in MN, Motion City Soundtrack, that I really enjoy. Kind of like All American Rejects.. minus all the whining and crying about girls and stuff. Much more fun, but i get crap from friends for liking them. Ummmm... does the Cure count as pop. I´ve been listening to them quite a bit since I found the greatest hits DVD for cheap. I´ll have to think about this one some more....

Rock n´ Roller ?

Not me matey ! Try the following..

Post-rock
Ambient (Brian Eno et al)
Krautrock (Kraftwerk et al)
Avant-garde classical
Techno
Post-punk (Joy Division, The Fall et al)
Alt-Country

As for pop secrets, I´ll own up to

Human League
Natalie Merchant (hey, a guy´s gotta show his sensitive side somehow..I think I read that somewhere).

Good calls on the Fountains of Wayne (got their first CD) and the Corrs. My CD collection includes their Greatest Hits, which I think stemmed from my beloved´s misreading of my willingness to sit through their videos.

<sigh> Andrea Corr

I gotta say Christina Augulra latest CD as well as Lisa Marie Presleys first. Both are quite good.
My wife put Lisa Marie´s CD in without me knowing who it was,I liked it and was very surprised to find out it was her.

ha! You mentioned Ben Kweller! I almost mentioned him but like you said.. he is what should be pop but isn´t. Such a great artist.. at what is he now.. 22 at the most

Now that you mention Junior Senior, I have to agree. When we go bowling that one always gets me movin and gets stuck in my head. Not to mention the video is cool as hell.

I´d have to add that stupid Jason Mraz song. Ugh.. that song drives me nuts. I don´t know if its cause people always sing along to it or if I actually like it but.. ugh.. stupid "I won´t worry my life away" song... People like Jason Mraz and John Mayer need to be replaced by the Ben Kweller´s and Jeff Tweedys. Stupid mainstream.

Yes Paul, that´s exactly what happened....I couldn´t answer her questions in case the fact that my tongue was hanging out gave me away.

I have mixed feelings about the other 2 - sometimes they look cute, others not. Spookily enough, when their brother got married, his new wife´s resemblance to Andrea was faintly disturbing.

Well, I´m all about techno, euro house, house, and pop so I guess my deep, dark secret would be rock/country stuff. I like the Dixie Chicks, ELO, and "Don´t Fear the Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult. All of which go against my Chicago House Music upbringing. And on top of that I´m going to the Acoustic Cafe here in Huntsville, AL once a month. It´s sort of like the Blubird Cafe with country songwriters coming down from Nashville to perform their hits in a small restaurant on the edge of town.

My musical taste have become more and more eclectic of late. I´ve gone more progressive, The Thorns, Nickel Creek, Jayhawks, Wilco than alternative of late.

But I like a good pop tune every now and then. John Mayer has been a guilty pleasure and I´m a sucker still for anything from the 80´s.

John Mayer? Yeah, you were singing "Why Georgia" on the way to the track last month, as I recall.

John Mayer? You´re never rooming with me again at Indy.

Just kidding, dude. We all have our pop vices. See you tonight at Poker Night?

P.S.: The Kentucky race was nothing to send a news bulletin about, eh? Good to see Sam win, but that was the most sleep-inducing IRL show I´ve ever seen.

Currently listening to a lot of Flaming Lips and Belle & Sebastian. Don´t really know what qualifies as pop anymore since I rarely listen to the radio. The good thing is that I don´t get burned out on a song as soon because I hear it a million times on the radio.
