Leaving lurk mode/, Dammit you guys. I really thought I was happy just playing The Golf Club until reading this thread. Now I realize how much they improved and added to TGC2 made me realize I just couldnt go without any longer and am now downloading it.

Im not the biggest virtual golfing enthusiast but reading this thread is really changing my mind. I have to have it now. This game has lit up DSP like one of the previous TW titles and despite its misgivings, the DSP crew is still enjoying it.

Well that sells it for me. I hope to see you all on the virtual links. I'm now ddtrane65 and will settle into my rightful place of last until I can get better. /Reentering lurk mode

Vader, I ran into an obstacle you may have already encountered last night. We had events in progress in both the PS4 and PC societies that had started on the 10th, and were scheduled to end on the 11th at 4:00 AM EDT. The scheduling tool wouldn't let me start today's daily to start "Today" because we already had an event in progress. I created events to start on the 12th, but had to wait until this morning to create an event for today. I'll have to keep that in mind that I need to be greater than 24 hours in advance planning future tournaments.
Yeah I was just editing the title of the two daily's last night and then the start and end dates got screwed up so I ended up deleting one of the daily's and then set up a 4 day tournament at Oakmont for this weekend. Wish they would let you set the exact times they could start and end.

You won't regret it... I just finished a casual round at Royal Birkdale 2017 and the DSP PC Society Daily at Paragon Park Golf Club; they are both fantastic golf courses and I played my arse off to slightly break par on each of them. I'm confident that HB Studios will eventually get all the server, scoring, and stat quirks resolved. The PC version is flowing very smooth right now, but I'm sure the consoles will follow.

I think we're up to like 15 in the XBox One Society, with 6 or 7 in the PC version, and 5 in the PS4 Society.

It's weird, it wouldn't let me add the event 3 hours in advance of the start time, but it let me add it 5 1/2 hours after it? Lesson learned... I hope

Is there an easy way to see what your previous scores on a given course were without loading up your ghost to play against? I don't think there is and this seems like a no-brainer of a feature.

There are problems with courses cross publishing, and some of them are taking quite a while. HBS is aware of it and hopefully will improve on it. I just searched for it this afternoon for the first time on the PC and found it, searching by name. It hadn't been up there long because I was the first person to play it. Try it now and see if it isn't up.

I played Royal Birkdale 2017 last night on the Xbox, search for friends favorites if it doesn't show up in a search.

I should probably join the ps4 society. I'm liking the upgrade. Playing with tour clubs I can stripe it at times and am lost at others without clear understanding why. Courses I favorite sometimes disappear from my favorites list. Fortunately they seem to stick in the played folder but that may be too crowded soon.

As much as I'm playing this game daily I'm about to put it down I think,

I don't know what I'm more astonished by, how badly the fairway bunker and rough play is or the fact that this got by beta. It is flat out broken and I can't believe it is not being discussed. Look if I put an 8 iron in my hand for a 110 yard bunker shot and hit it perfect and down the center of the cone the f***in ball should go more than 80-90 yards. Christ I hit a real life bunker shot tonight from 110 out with a 52 degree wedge and put it within 10 feet.

Don't even get me started on the rough, the first cut is not a penalty. Ask a bunch of golfer, a lot prefer to hit from the 1st cut and if you're going to tell me that a mid-cap player can't hit a 180 yard rough shot then you're nuts. I understand that some rough is just brutal in real life but every course in this game has US Open style rough.

JC and Divot is this even being discussed on the TGC forums or is the fact most good players seldom find themselves in the rough so no one gives a crap?

I reached the 18th hole at yesterday's XBox One Society's Daily with a one stroke lead. I hit a perfect tee shot and had 244 yards to the par 5 green. I slightly hooked my approach, but it was enough to find the water. I then proceeded to hit exactly the same shot after my drop. I wound up with a triple bogey 8, dropping from 1st to 4th! One of my more epic meltdowns

Jump in MUTTS, the PS4 DSP Society needs some active players. I've been solo the last two days. We've got a Daily at East Hampton today.

The rough play, particularly heavy rough, and bunker play were major talking points in the beta. HBS seem to be content with what they've got. The only thing I can tell you for how to best cope with it is to stop your backswing short of what you normally would. For some reason, on both bunker and heavy rough shots, if your backswing and overall swing power are just a bit less than normal, you'll have a better shot of coming out straight and even getting a little more carry.

I find the variance in full shot carry distance out of a bunker to be excessive. I just bank on being in the lower region of the stated percentage carry impact and take my lumps... making the safer play more often than not.

Both of these areas only got mild tweaking during months of back and forth in the beta, so I don't know that their posture is going to change much on it now. I'm honestly surprised that there isn't more backlash over both topics, to be honest.

It has been discussed and did not get past the testers....the Heavy rough is an issue. My issue is when I am a yard off the fairway, the rough is labeled "heavy" rough on some courses.

I am able to get reasonable results from most of the light rough, but yeah, I hear you and agree that the performance out of the rough is anything but consistent.

On the PC side, John was leading with a -4, but the other entrants were +6 and +7, I think it was. I went into the 16th at -4, and thought I had it in the bag. Then I bogeyed the 16th to drop a stroke back.

I drilled an approach shot on the 17th to hit a short 4 foot putt to get back to a tie, and then felt more pressure on the 18th than I've ever felt in a video game, for no real reason since there's only like 4 of us playing on PC. I blistered my drive down the middle, and was hitting off a slope on the fairway with an opposite 6MPH wind, and a bunker protecting the front right edge of the green.

I spent probably a full 2 minutes calculating that approach shot, and when I let it go, I instantly realized the wind was a bigger problem than the slope, so I ended up with a 14 foot, downhill, hard breaking putt to try to win.

....which I then missed by 2 feet. I've never been so disappointed with a T1, but the pressure this game puts on you in tournament play is awesome.

So frustrating. I play golf games like the sim-racers here play racing games; I just want to run "laps" around the course, trying to score better than my average on each hole. I use an iOS app called "The Grint" when playing IRL - and it has all these features. Dissapointing that I can't get the same functionality in a video sim.

^^^ It's moments like this that make this game a treat to play. You went down, got back up on the next hole, and then faced a considerable challenge on the last hole. It became far more than a casual round, which is what I like about Society play.

I wasn't so much worried about my second shot on 18, even though I knew the water was waiting to the left. I'd been hitting the ball so straight on the back 9 that I was overconfident, and didn't take the threat seriously enough... I paid for not respecting the game.

Accepted SportDan and MUTTS into the PS4 Society today. Today's daily is a fund raiser for the PS4 version, so don't feel like you're going to be shaken down for this many VCs every day :) We need to get it to level 3 to keep our current season going through next week. The PC DSP Society is already at level 3.

Here's a challenge to those of you playing in today's Daily at East Hampton; if you don't go for the green on the 296 yard par 4 16th, you'll have to play your next round in pink capris :P I had a 16 MPH wind at my back when I played it and put my tee shot on 47 feet past the pin, but on the green. I managed to 2-putt for birdie. This will also be a sort of barometer for how consistent the winds are at various times during the same tournament round. My experience above was on the PS4 version, but I have the PC Society tournament for today set at East Hampton also.

I approved trane this morning before I left for work, you just have to go back into the DSP society and you will have access to it then.
