Great list Tim, and I concur... I'd also add anything from FriendBomber and MikeMike3000, and keep your eye out for anything Wendy Airey (wendy445) produces on The Golf Club 2. She had some of my all time favorites on TGC 1 and I'm hearing that she's getting back into TGC 2!DivotMaker wrote:

While I was still in contention after round 1 of the PC tourney, I put 5 in the water off the tee on 10 and even thought they all hit land and kicked left I was forced to re-tee. Thus I'm in dead last but will finish. Nice layout but some really tough greens

One caveat, it was with standard clubs but my final round 65 was sweet along with a holed shot from 115 yards.J_Cauthen wrote:That's sick... especially in the eyes of someone who just shot +12, his last time out at this course!10spro wrote:BTW, congratz to Pigpen on a -9 at Ethalwind. The 3rd round greens were ridiculous but the final round greens were much more manageable.
For the life of me I cannot dial in the tour clubs. I'd much rather sacrifice the distance as my short game/putting is pretty solid.

I have not seen this message Dan. I've really never had a problem with the PC version connecting or launching. AWS is (I believe) Amazon Web Services. Interesting....Danimal wrote:Tried to get on the play a round and won't even start, itr says Golf Club 2 attempted to launch with this parameter Server = AWS
Re: HB Studios Next-Gen golf game: The Golf Club
You shot a 63 with Standard Clubs!? I haven't tried to play more than a hole with Standard clubs, just to get a frame of reference during the beta test. I figured you wouldn't be able to get enough distance with them to be able to reach a number of par 4's in regulation from the tournament tees.pigpen81 wrote: One caveat, it was with standard clubs but my final round 65 was sweet along with a holed shot from 115 yards.
Tour clubs are very tough for me on the XBox One for some reason. I'm used to using my XBox 360 controller on the PC and it's a lot stiffer than the XBox One controllers I have. The XBox one feels a bit "sloppy" in my hands as a result. Still, there shouldn't be an average of 12 shots worth of difference between Player and Tour Clubs for me on the XBox One, but there is.For the life of me I cannot dial in the tour clubs. I'd much rather sacrifice the distance as my short game/putting is pretty solid.
What are you using now? I think you should be going with Player clubs as they will open up the dynamics of the interface considerably more than Standard, which are good for nothing more than a starter set for an average, or better gamer, which you certainly are the latter.

Uninstall the game from Steam.
Reboot, then reinstall.
I ended up uninstalling Steam, then reinstalling it and TGC2 and no problems since.

Just as an FYI, I had to restart my machined and then it worked. No idea why, as JC says AWS is Amazon Web services, which must be where they are hosting their servers.DivotMaker wrote:I saw this the 2nd day.Danimal wrote:Tried to get on the play a round and won't even start, itr says Golf Club 2 attempted to launch with this parameter Server = AWS

Tried to finish Royal Ethalwind DSP Society tournament last night on XB1 but was bounced from servers. Frustrating, as I was -2 overall midway through the second round. Doubt I would have caught leaders, but I was playing well and having fun.
Will these server follies ever end? It's been 1 1/2 weeks since release day. Getting ridiculous.

Re: HB Studios Next-Gen golf game: The Golf Club
After a couple nights with this game, I see what you guys have been talking about. (Not the server issues, but the gameplay)
I've played 22 rounds of golf here in Phoenix since March when I picked the game back up after years away from the game, and the representation I see in TGC2 is pretty great. I've settled on the Player Clubs, as they match my real life iron distances really well. If only I could hit the driver that long in real life though!!!
Looking forward to getting started with the XBOX DSP Society, hopefully there is a new event starting this weekend?
I have no idea where my headset is, so if anyone joins me for a MP game, I apologize in advance for not voice chatting!!!

Re: HB Studios Next-Gen golf game: The Golf Club
Really starting to dislike the way the greens are. Keep in mind I barely played any of TGC1, so all of this is pretty new to me. But I can be really slicing through a round efficiently, and suddenly there are strings of holes that the greens seem to be ice. I putt a ball trying for 15 feet on a flat surface, so I don't put much on it, and it goes 7 feet. Then I try to account for break, and it turns 90 degrees and slides off the putting surface.
Or I'm 95 yards out, so I pull up a wedge and drop one on--and watch as the ball doesn't stop at all, but just rolls right off the green in any given direction. Then, the next shot, I see the ball stop dead in its tracks and roll back a few feet.
OK--maybe I'll try to add loft to see if I can get it to be predictable. Now, it's 20 yards short and ends up 20 yards off the green, at which point I spend 2 chips to try to figure out distance there, before 2-putting it.
I'll have rounds where I feel dialed in, but there are ALWAYS some sequences where what I get from the short game is not what I'm expecting to get. Add to that the lovely courses that seem to have a shelf or an impossible slope to the point where it's like putting on a minigolf course, and I'm getting pretty frustrated with the unpredictability.
I like the challenge, but I don't like feeling like I see things properly and don't know how to execute what I want to do. Or, I try it and it doesn't behave anything like what I saw the previous hole or round.

Speaking of MP Live action, let's have another foursome tonight, we can start a bit earlier as it takes a little while to have all players sync at once. For a fun experience it's good to have 'Wait turn" to ON, but it depends a lot on the servers. We could also try it on OFF, so basically we won't see what each one is wearing or be staring at the screen for what it seems ages for someone to T-off, but we all shoot when it's convenient and all we see it's the ball instead.
It would be nice to complete an 18 hole course without the delays.

I've been bitching about the green physics for years now. It's barely improved this year...which is definitely frustrating. But it's just something I've got to adjust my thinking about. Re: HB Studios Next-Gen golf game: The Golf Club
I agree with much of what you have said Terry, the green physics or whatever you want to call them are not reliable. I've seen all the same things which if they didn't occur so often I would be fine with. Many times the ball does unexpected things in real life golf by the green but it happens a lot in this game.
I also think hitting from the rough or fairway bunkers is pretty much broken. I've been in many situation where I get perfect / perfect and right down the red cone for a ball to go 70 yards with a 7 iron. I would bet $1000 dollars I could go drop 5 balls in a fairway bunker and hit all of them more than 70 yards. The rough is also the same way, maybe it is due to course set up and everyone is creating heavy rough conditions but it honestly the worst part of the game IMO.
I still enjoy the game but there is much room for improvement in a few areas.

Re: HB Studios Next-Gen golf game: The Golf Club
I'm starting to wonder if they just decided to artificially increase the challenge, or "unpredictability" of golf around the greens and intentionally did it this way.
Because some rounds I can drop double-break-downhill putts from 40 feet. Then others I can't even get close with a moderate break from 12 feet...simply because I either have to aim 85 degrees the opposite direction and tap it, and hop it comes looping all the way back down to the hole--OR, I add a "normal" amount of compensation and watch it miss by an inch, then proceed to roll 35 feet off the green. I think the game as a whole could do a whole lot better with a universal 10 or 15% more "stickiness" to the greens.

Fellas, it takes tons of practice to get good at putting. Hell, I have been playing Golf games almost exclusively for nearly 30 years and there are times the greens simply school me, especially on downhill putts. It takes such a deft touch and you just have to practice it over and over learning something new every round.

Have a feeling I'm stuck in limbo on the XB1 Society tourney. I am sitting at -5 after 11, I think it is, but every hole my score isn't showing on the leaderboard. I can view my scorecard, and if I quit out and come back it picks up where I left off...but isn't this what guys were saying they had when the scores "didn't count"?
On PC tourneys I've played, it updated normally every hole.
