Pretty sure I will continue playing the Far cry franchise, the fifth version looks fantastic
Re: E3 2017
Don't know how accurate this article is, so take it for what it's worth, but Forza makes MS $$$ so that is probably why they continue to focus on it.

By the end of last year, the Forza series had generated a total of over $1 billion in retail sales. Throughout December, "more than 14 million unique players were involved in the Forza community on Xbox One and Windows 10".
"Additionally, our online racing community expanded significantly [in 2016]," Turn 10 chief Alan Hartman said today. "Over three million players joined us online each month and we launched the Forza Racing Championship, an eSports league for players of all skill levels to compete for glory and real-world prizes."
The latest title in the series, Forza Horizon 3, launched in September 2016. Microsoft said today that, since its release, over 2.5 million copies of the game have been sold, maintaining its run "as the best-selling racing franchise of this console generation", according to data from The NPD Group, collected in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand since November 2012.

Days Gone looks great and so does this new Detroit game but everything else has been meh God of War looks dated graphically.

Man that was probably the biggest dud of a press conference I've seen. Crows was falling asleep.

Yeah that wasn't anything special. It was almost as if they were trying to underwhelm. Days Gone does look great. God of War won't be around until 2018. COD WW2 trailer was cool but that is obviously not an exclusive.Danimal wrote:Man that was probably the biggest dud of a press conference I've seen. Crows was falling asleep.

The games I'll be buying will be Days Gone which seems like a nice mixture of HZD/Last of Us/Uncharted adventure, Frozen Wild for HZD is a DLC and of course Uncharted 'The Lost Legacy'.
Was expecting some news for TLOU 2 but we'll have to wait until December for more news.

Re: E3 2017
The case they should make is the same as Sony did with the PS2 and PS3.wco81 wrote:Regardless of the merits, you'd think MS would have learned from launching the Xbox One at $499 with Kinect.
They believed the Kinect features would make people pay more than the competitor's product.
Now they're banking on pure power to do so. That may work for the first couple of million units but then the price difference compared to the regular Xbox One might be too much for most people to overlook.
For $100 you get a more powerful console AND a UHD drive for watching movies. When people are buying their first 4K TV, whichh console actually looks like the better value? MS ought to be beating that drum over and over.

Right but a lot of people will be seeing that you can get the Xbox One S for half the price?Aristo wrote:The case they should make is the same as Sony did with the PS2 and PS3.wco81 wrote:Regardless of the merits, you'd think MS would have learned from launching the Xbox One at $499 with Kinect.

There will be people who want the most powerful. But the PS4 Pro is only like 20% of PS4 sales, Sony said recently. So the $100 price difference only applies to a small segment of the console market.
We're in uncharted territory with these mid-generation console upgrades. 4K TVs are affordable now so in a few years, they'll be in most homes. But there are still a lot of people who'd have to buy a $500 console and a 4K TV.
If MS gets a good number of 4K and HDR games out there, certainly the enthusiasts will buy the system, just like they bought the PS3 as a Blu Ray player. Xbox One X could be good not only for the gaming industry but also home theater, UHD Blu Ray.
Re: E3 2017
Thing is other than Forza 7 what other game gave us the I got to get that 4K HDR ready game out of the gate for MS? Personally, I think that there's definitely a market for those that want the most powerful console no matter what the cost is. But when we are talking about bridging the price range compared to the PS4 Pro, the X would have had a much louder WOW factor if it would launch at $449.

Re: E3 2017
Overall, this E3 has been very underwhelming! EA's conference was just abysmal. There was alot of hype for Microsoft's conference with the Scorpio stuff, but again, they use Forza 7 to showcase the system. This was the perfect opportunity for them to launch with a new first party IP, but nothing. Sea of Thieves could have been that title, but there is something "off" about that game right now. Perhaps Crackdown 3? Nope, the footage of that game has steadily gone downhill.
UbiSoft overall was a solid conference and they have some promising titles. Assassin's Creed is going in a slightly different direction which favors what I like to play. The Crew 2 looks like a nice upgrade over the original. But like someone else mentioned, Skull & Bones looks like it could steal Sea of Thieves thunder! Far Cry 5 will definitely fill that open world void until the release of Red Dead Redemption 2.
Sony had a chance to announce some new games as well but failed. Again, it's more sequels. Gamers are beginning to show their frustration with all these sequels and retro games. It's been going on much to long! At least the CoD franchise is finally listening and going back to boots on ground combat this year, but will it be good enough to compete with Battlefield 1? Sure, droves of people will buy it no matter what because it is CoD, but which game will have the longevity.
The star of E3 thus far for me has been Bioware's new IP Anthem. It looks like they have put lots of resources into this title and from what I saw, it could become the next flagship game. People are touting it as a Destiny killer, not sure I would go that far. But at least they are bringing out something fresh and what appears very entertaining.
Maybe there will be some surprises at E3 2018, but its time for these game developers to go back to the drawing board and come out with some fresh content.

I have zero interest in Destiny 2 but Anthem look great. When they seamlessly transitioned from above ground to under water I was hooked. The only thing that made me pause was how powerful the player were, "hey look 2 dozen bad guys let me rocket attack all of them."AcemanPR wrote: The star of E3 thus far for me has been Bioware's new IP Anthem. Failed to mention the other good thing out of Sony's event was a HZD DLC expansion, since I'm not even close to finishing the game it give me incentive to do so.

A new Uncharted in released with every new PS launch.
Not wanting or being excited about the new Xbox is a valid option for anyone but the Forza / Ridge Racer argument is absurd logic. Forza is played by a lot of people, like it or not it is a system seller or they wouldn't keep making them.
Forza is the main reason I have an Xbox One. Love the series.
All the other racing titles I own are on the PS4, because there are more people online on PS4.

Seriously, I would rather spend the extra jack on a really nice 4K HDR TV instead of a low-end 4K HDR set and an Xbox One X at this point. I watch TV more than I play games. Plus a nicer TV benefits everyone in the house, including my wife and daughter, who don't game at all.
Plus I think I have watched three movies on a disc medium in my life, so I don't care about Blu-Ray. I either stream via Netflix, watch premium channels, watch On Demand or "borrow" from the catacombs of the Internet for the rare times I watch movies.
The X is a nice toy. But it doesn't fit for me right now, especially at $499 and with an Ivy League tuition bill arriving semi-annually in my mailbox.

At least PK now has a legit excuse for the tight purse strings. But I do wonder how many times we get to hear that his daughter is Ivy league? Twice so far in this thread.
But serious, congrats PK, that's awesome for you and your daughter. I'd go the nicer TV route too if I were you.

Worth every penny. She's a terrific, motivated kid who has worked VERY hard to achieve success in the classroom. Was a good athlete in high school, too, recruited for D-I lacrosse and D-II soccer. But she chose to focus on academics in college and wants to study abroad for a semester or a year. Can't argue with that.DivotMaker wrote:Ouch! That's GOTTA hurt.....

Don't worry about the "Ivy League" comments from others.....that is a tremendous accomplishment and I am sure while it is incredibly taxing on the checkbook, it will ultimately be very rewarding for you and her.
I remember when my daughter went to college. She had only one in mind, Texas A&M like her Daddy. She was a great student in High School and became a better student at A&M graduating with a 3.8 GPA in English. I walked her down the aisle October 2015 and she married a straight up class, hard working young man. May 3rd they had their first child, our first grandchild, Miss Evelyn Grace Von Frank. I can't tell you how the arrival of that little girl has turned our world upside down. I am sure one day you will have a similar experience as it has been life-changing for us in a wonderful way.

I can't believe Sony didn't announce a $50 price drop on the PS4 Pro. That would've taken the wind out of MS's sails. Maybe they will closer to the XB1X launch.

Yeah a day later I'm still shocked by that presser. From the technical problems to the rehashes to the complete lack of any buzz worthy announcements. I thought maybe I was being hard on them until I started reading gaming sites coverage of it.Diablo25 wrote:I can't believe Sony didn't announce a $50 price drop on the PS4 Pro. Ubisoft had the best presser so far, I couldn't watch Nintendo's but I imagine they didn't address their supply problems.
I also added Sea of Thieves to my list of games to watch. It was kind of cartonish but looked fun. Also Ashen looked really good to me as well but when I think of Triple A games the only thing I saw was Anthem, everything else was a step below.

The gaming industry is starting to resemble the very industry it's trying to usurp, Hollywood. Very few artistic originals, a whole lot of boring remakes and uninspired franchise sequels.
